6. High Stakes and Events
"No word about the girl?" Kurogiri cautiously asked the livid boy with hands adorning his body.
"If I had word on the girl, do you think I would be sitting here right now?" He bit as he chugged the drink that was in front of him, slamming it back down onto the bar hard enough to send it into shatters.
"Tomura-"
"I need to know who she is." His hand slammed down onto the table, leaving one finger precisely off.
Always just the one.
Kurogiri watched the young man, itch, yell, slam into things all over the idea of one girl. Who could she be to him? Why does he feel drawn to someone no one remembers?
"He knows doesn't he? He just isn't telling me because I failed my mission." He decided. "This is my punishment, isn't it Kurogiri?"
He kicked over a chair before storming from the room. If he must endure psychological torture, then he would do it in solitude as he thought.
Thought about you—and where the hell you came from.

"Dodge!" You yelled as you swung your fist, leaving Midoriya barely stumbling away from your trajectory.
"Again!" You called out.
The two of you were panting, and your fists flew in nonsensical patterns. Midoriya was catching on quick, the boy had stunning reflexes when he truly focused.
You were amazed.
Then suddenly it was like time stopped for you, your eyes were glued to his. Midoriya's expression turned horrific as he barely stopped himself from punching you square in the nose.
"W-What?" He panted as he stumbled forward.
You blinked, suddenly extremely embarrassed. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to stare I'm an idiot and I think I may just be a little hungry and okay I'm going to go die now."
You fell backwards and allowed yourself to be hidden by the dandelions. You tried not to wince as your back viciously smacked against the ground. You were acting like an airhead and you wanted to float into space to put you out of your misery.
Izuku took a moment to rummage through your bags before sitting next to you with a water and a snack.
"Here." He handed it to you before laying down next to you.
"I'm nervous." You admitted.
"About the festival?" He asked quietly.
The two of you had been training hard together for about two weeks, but that didn't stop the fearful feeling that came with showcasing your power and skill to the whole country.
"Yeah." You could tell he was surprised you even answered, you always shied away from opening up like that.
He was quiet for a moment since he knew your emotions were extra delicate since the attack on the USJ.
He wanted to reassure you in a way that you would truly believe what he was saying.
"It's going to be your chance to prove yourself." He began. "To show the others how you strengthened your resolve. I can see how strong you've gotten, I just hope you see it too."
Your eyes flickered towards him and you noticed he was smiling as he twirled a dandelion by its stem between his fingers.
You sat up and plucked one out of the ground. "Okay." You began and he sat up slowly, giving you a funny look.
"What's up?"
"Let's make a wish." You beamed as you tugged on his arm so he would sit all the way up.
"A wish?" He quirked a brow. "I didn't take you as the type to believe in that sort of thing Aizawa."
Your face flushed and you looked away angrily—but decided not to add any further stress on each other by yelling at him.
"W-Whatever I'll just do it myself." You grumbled.
You felt his hand on your head.
You slowly turned and looked back at him.
He was smiling brightly as he said, "Of course I'll make a wish with you." And surprisingly you didn't have to urge to flip him over like you did with Kirishima.
Something felt different, and you weren't sure if you liked it or hated it.
"Fine but you can't tell me what you wish for or else it won't work." You spoke as you rose the dandelion towards your lips as you thought of the perfect way to word your wish.
"I thought that was the rule about birthdays."
"Oh shut up would you?!" You groaned, though a smile crept to your lips.
I wish to always do my best...and that moments like these will last forever.

"How was lunch with All Might?" You asked as you and Izuku stood to leave the class with everyone else. You had planned to sit together during lunch with your other friends, but he had a meeting with your teacher.
Midoriya had a small smile across his lips. "It was alright, I ended up getting a pep talk for the sports festival out of it so I think that means it went well."
You wanted to ask him why he was seeming to get special treatment from the number one hero, but you were interrupted by a worrisome Uraraka.
"What's going on?" You heard.
In front of you and your friends was a large group of students from the other courses.
"Why the hell are they blocking the door?" You demanded.
"Scoping out the competition—thought that would be obvious for you eyebags." Bakugou cut his eyes at you. "We survived an attack it's only sensible that they'd want to get a look." He scoffed as he continued moving forward, pushing past you and Midoriya.
"What the hell is your problem? I told you to stop touching me asshole." You growled, not caring that there was anyone else around you two.
"This is useless—move aside you damn extras." Bakugou spat, completely ignoring you.
"You can't just call people you don't know extras!" Iida exclaimed.
You shrugged. "I mean, it makes sense."
"Aizawa-San!" Midoriya gasped.
"Oh get over it." You rolled your eyes.
"Depending on the results of the sports festival," you noticed a tall boy with messy purple hair had been speaking, "they might consider transferring us to the hero course. I understand that the reverse is also possible for you." He smirked.
"You're not scaring anyone idiot, move aside! We'd all like to leave." You yelled, shoving past Bakugou who was now yelling at you about being a hypocrite and touching him just as much as he touched you.
"I'm just saying, for a general studies kid like me, this isn't just scoping out the competition," he leaned in close to your face, his emphasis on your shorter height pissed you off, "It's a declaration of war."
"I said move aside." You gritted out, your fists clenched tight. "We can settle this at the festival."
He shook his head with a sigh. "Seems I was right, you're all just like him." He jerked his head towards Bakugou. "This will be a perfect chance to knock all of you off your pedestals."
"Hey you assholes! We heard you survived the attack! We're also in the hero course—stop making us all look like jerks with your bad attitudes!" A guy who reminded you of Kirishima screamed accusingly.
You flipped him off before squeezing through the crowd of students—leaving filled with determination and a bit of embarrassment.
After that day, everyone began preparing in their own ways.
You and Midoriya continued training in your field of dandelions, occasionally bringing out his set of weights to up the rigor.
Everyday you felt stronger, more willing to enter this competition.
You would make your dad proud, you would earn the right to know all the secrets kept from you.
You would prove that you were strong enough to know.
You found yourself really glad that you were doing this with your new friends by your side.
**
"Is everyone good and ready to begin?" Iida yelled as he reentered the room.
Your class was all spread out in their own groups in a waiting room, ready with your gym uniforms. You had been standing with Midoriya and Mineta, trying to keep your green haired friend calm.
"You're going to do great! I'm your trainer so I know you'll do awesome." You were sitting on top of a table, grinning with your thumb pointed proudly at your chest.
"You trained him? That's kinda weird."
"How?" You and Midoriya both asked Mineta in unison.
"Geez you even talk at the same time. You know Midoriya, I wasn't expecting you to get a girlfriend at all. Let alone be the first guy in the class too!" Mineta whined, ignoring your question. "She's fine too. Could be taller, definitely has room to be curvier and-"
You punched the boy in the head and he flew past the two of you.
Midoriya sighed in relief. "He's a pain."
"Midoriya."
The two of you turned your head and you saw Todoroki approaching.
Your brows furrowed as you clenched your pants between your fingers. His expression was way to cold, you didn't like whatever he was about to say already.
"Objectively speaking, I'm more stronger and capable than you." His beginning statement pissed you off. You would have lunged at him if Midoriya hadn't placed his arm subtly in front of you, hoping it would calm you down.
"Huh? S-Sure." Your friend spoke nervously and you noticed the arm he held out in front of you was shaking.
"All Might's got his eye on you doesn't he?" So he had noticed that too, "I won't pry—but I will beat you."
Your classmates began to whisper and shout about Todoroki's declaration of war.
"The hell are you picking on him for?" You stood and walked closer to the half-and-half boy. "I'm the one who ranked above you, shouldn't you be worried about me? Or Yayorouzu?"
"Hey you guys let's not pick fights-"
"I really don't care." Todoroki pushed Kirishima's hand off, though his cold eyes never left yours. "I'm not here to make friends."
You felt your hand twitch as anger began to consume you.
"I'm also not worried about you Aizawa." He spoke with almost a scoff. "Being a teacher's kid doesn't give you any credits. You're still just a small and weak girl who hasn't even proven herself when it really mattered."
Midoriya stepped forward now. "Todoroki—" he was clearly upset. "You came over here with a declaration for me. I want you to focus on that because even if you are the strongest here objectively speaking—I'm going for the top too, with everything I got. Especially now that you have insulted my friend."
Todoroki nodded once, content like he got exactly what he wanted. "Right."
As everyone began to move in closer to leave, Midoriya noticed you were still standing in the center of the room. Your eyes looked glazed over and your fists were still clenched tightly at your sides.
"Aizawa?" He called from the door.
You lifted your head and he noticed the redness that began to seep in the corners of your eyes. He couldn't tell what you were feeling.
"Let's go." You spoke with a nod as you walked past him.
He watched you for a moment, deciding not to be to concerned. He understood how you could have felt and how Todoroki's words could have hurt you.
He remembered you telling him how useless you had felt, and the boy had thrown it back in your face. But Izuku could see now that it didn't matter, it only fueled your desire to win.
He promised himself then and there that he would be standing beside you through it all. He wouldn't let you feel alone and useless ever again.
**
Like usual, Present Mic was incredibly loud.
You walked out into the arena with your fingers stuck in your ears, barely hearing him announce your class.
You had grown up with the man coming around often, being that he was close to your father, but you never got used to his quirk.
Let's be honest, he was loud without it.
"Woah...what a crowd." Izuku was shaking as he slowly allowed his eyes to travel around the arena.
You jumped up and karate chopped his head for pointing it out. He stuck his tongue out at you.
You played with your fingers as you kept walking forward—Todoroki's words playing on repeat in your mind.
"I'm also not worried about you Aizawa. Being a teacher's kid doesn't give you any credits. You're still just a small and weak girl who hasn't even proven herself when it really mattered."
"Damn that bastard." You gritted out.
Izuku stared at you, quite worried. She scares me sometimes.
You began paying attention once more when you felt Bakugou's arm brush past you.
"What's he doing?" You whispered to Midoriya.
The boy looked down at you with an exaggerated blink. "He's uh...the class representative. He placed first in the entrance exam." She doesn't pay much attention, does she?
You felt yourself twitch. "That jerk."
"I just want to say, I'm gonna win." The way his body slugged as his hands were tucked tightly in his pockets pissed you off.
"You'll all make great stepping stones on my path to victory." He made a motion of slitting a neck as he stuck out his tongue at everyone who was booing him.
You flipped him off as everyone screamed about his overconfidence. As much as it pissed you off, you admired his surety in himself. You wanted to be like that...but not as asshole-ish.
"Now! Let's introduce the qualifier round!" Midnight spoke as she motioned towards a board. "An obstacle course!"
You felt yourself twitch again with anger as your eyes scanned the area for your father. Even though you couldn't see his face you knew he was smirking. That bastard knew I would hate this, fucking running.
"We like to give our students freedom here so as long as you don't go off the course, anything is fair game! Racers to your positions!"
You were lined up, already constructing a plan in your mind. You turned to glance at Izuku once more but you could almost see the wheels turning within his mind.
He was so determined.
You shook your head and then your arms, trying to rid yourself of any nerves.
Your eyes found Todoroki's, he looked away from you as quickly as he had looked over.
You could do it.
You would win.
There was no other choice.
