4. Attack and Recognition
The first week at U.A went by fast.
You and your classmates went back and forth about who the class president would be, and it ended up changing from Midoriya to Iida.
Now you were all set on the bus, adorned with hero costumes and ready for rescue training at the USJ with the pro hero 13.
As everyone bickered, you simply stared out the window, missing the way two boys on the bus noticed your unusual silence.
Alas, you were stuck in your thoughts, unable to shake the feeling that something bad was waiting for you all.
One thing you would learn from this field trip, was your intuition was the one thing you could trust in the world.
Nothing else had proved itself worthy.
**
"Gramps." You tugged on his cape as you floated above the small man microwaving his tarts.
"What girl?" He grumbled as he watched the fish shaped treats spin.
"How do you know so much about my quirk? How come you knew there was an extra piece to it before I did?" You were frustrated that everyone seemed to know everything about you.
Everyone but you.
"I'm a smart man."
"You're an old fart who acts like an idiot half the time."
"You better watch yourself or I won't share." He grunted.
"I'm serious though." He knew that. "I want to know more about myself."
He shook his head, amazed that he kept such a calm expression when his insides were screaming at him. He wanted to tell you who you were, of course he did. Watching you float above him, seeing how sad your eyes were, he just couldn't. He loved you like you were his own and he refused to put you in any danger.
"Your dad needs to be the one to tell you that. Now get down here." He snapped.
He had to maintain appearances before you.
Not only would your former identity endanger you, but All Might soon. You were simply just another child he failed to save, and the old pro couldn't handle that.
"You guys are so frustrating." You grumbled as you plopped into your seat, snacking away at the tarts Gran Torino had placed before you.
He sighed as it seemed that you had given up on pestering him.
Of course, you never let it go.
You remembered every moment they turned away from you.
Every moment they refused to tell you the truth about who you were.
You never understood the truth behind it, you knew you were in a horrible accident and orphaned but that was it.
You had no knowledge on who caused it, the villains in the area that night, your parents names, hell even their faces.
Never knew if you had any siblings, any pets.
You loved your father and your Gramps, you truly did, but
that didn't change the hole that continuously hollowed away in your chest each time they turned you away.
**
You walked into the USJ along with your elated classmates.
Midoriya was amongst the excited teens, fanboying at the pro hero. Though he was overwhelmed with excitement, his eyes kept finding you. Your face was so calm—it almost looked as if you were sad.
He knew you didn't like people prying into your personal life, so he hadn't asked. Though, he really wanted too—
"Idiot!" He heard Bakugou yell, interrupting the hero. Izuku nervously looked over at the angry blonde and noticed that he was yelling at you.
Bakugou simply glared at 13 who decided to keep explaining instead of addressing Bakugou who was harassing you.
"What?" You grumbled as you crossed your arms and looked away from the angry boy. You had no desire to speak to him.
"What's your deal?" He demanded. "You've been pouty this whole fucking time when you should be glad you're having a decent experience!" He scolded and you were amazed by how quietly he berated you.
"Screw off asshat you're poutier than I am." You stuck your tongue out at him and he began shaking—resisting the urge to scream in your face.
"I know you probably don't like talking about what's wrong, I wear that face you have on all the time." He poked at your forehead, knocking you back slightly from the surprise of it all.
"Fuck you, since when are you so mature?"
"I'm always mature dammit!"
"That is all! Thank you for listening." 13 was bowing and you punched the boy in the shoulder.
"I missed everything 13 said because of your stupid ass!"
"Don't act like you were paying any attention in the first place!" He growled.
The air around everyone shifted and you looked up slowly to see your father's body stiffen entirely. His eyes were wider than you had ever seen them and they were pinned to the center of the USJ.
Out of a large purple warp gate came a man—more like a boy with hands adorning his body.
With him were a mass of villains.
Your hands began shaking uncontrollably.
"Huddle up and move!" Your father screamed as he pushed his goggles up to his eyes—his scarf expanding around his body. "13! Protect the students!"
You remained still as he looked back at you only for a split second—ensuring your safety and begging you silently not to take a step further.
Your legs were tempted to leap forward and grab ahold of your old man—protect him the way he had been protecting you your whole life.
Almost as if he sensed it, Bakugou grabbed your arm and held it tight as he pulled you into the pack of your classmates.
You felt limp—the terror that consumed your body as your father was surrounded by an incredible amount of villains was debilitating.
"Sensei—aren't there intruder detectors!?"
"Yes—of course!"
You noticed Endeavor's son begin to analyze the situation at hand—asking where they were located and deciding they had a set motive due to the numbers of the opposing sides.
That was exactly what you should have been doing—what you were trained to do.
But still, you stood with Bakugou's hand clasped around your arm, frozen with terror.
Your father began sending out instructions, Kaminari was quite frantic when he was told to use his quirk to contact the school.
"But Sensei! You can't fight them alone." Midoriya's horrified voice snapped you out of your terror. "Against that many—even you can't nullify all their quirks!" He cried out.
You pulled your arm out of Bakugou's grasp and began to step towards the green haired boy.
You wanted to reassure him, maybe at least you could manage that.
"As Eraser Head, your fighting style involves erasure and a quick binding capture—head on battle isn't—" he stopped when he felt your hand on his shoulder, his eyes met yours and you simply shook your head.
"No good hero is a one trick pony."
It was all happening too fast.
"He—He is trained in various martial arts." You whispered to the boy and you felt his body relax a bit. "He...He can protect us—he will be okay." You weren't looking at the boy, your eyes were glued to the ground and your hands were shaking frantically.
"Aizawa-San." He whispered.
You stepped closer towards the edge to see your father in action, dodging both Bakugou and Midoriya's attempts to grab you.
He was amazingly skilled, having time to let out a multitude of snarky comments to his larger opponents. His scarfs were all over the place and then in tight restraints before you could even blink.
Your fingers tightened around the similar scarf that adorned your own neck.
You had to be strong.
You had to prove him you were worthy.
Strong and worthy enough to fight alongside him and your classmates.
Strong enough to know every secret.
"Wow!" Midoriya exclaimed, his eyes glued to your father. "He can even hold his own when outnumbered." You weren't sure if Midoriya's outburst of excitement was just his fanboy personality, or if it was an attempt to comfort you.
"No time for analysis! Hurry up and evacuate you three!" Iida yelled and you noticed that Bakugou still stood closely to you.
Your brows furrowed as you stared down the blonde. Why is he acting so weird?
"I won't allow that." An eerie voice spoke and your eyes widened as a villain stood before you.
His body was spread out in a large black and purple warp gate—he had bright yellow, slitted eyes shining through the darkness. Your nails cut into your palms as you squeezed your fists tightly.
"Greetings, we are the League of Villains." He was so formal. "Forgive our audacity but, today we've come here to U.A high school to end the life of All Might, the symbol of peace."
The wave of horror that washed over Midoriya reminded you to much of yourself moments before.
"We were under the impression that All Might would be here today, but it seems his schedule may have changed. No matter, my role still remains the same."
The warp gate began to expand but was quickly diminished as Bakugou and Kirishima charged the villain, ignoring the screams of protest from 13.
"Be gone! Writhe in the moment—until you take your last breathe everyone!"
The last thing you saw before you were warped away was Bakugou and Kirishima grabbing onto your stunned form.
The Collapsed Zone
"What the hell?" You groaned as you rolled over onto your feet.
"Idiot!" Bakugou screamed as he lightly banged his fist on your head.
"Don't touch me you asshole!"
"Um—guys." Kirishima called for their attention.
Your eyes met to where he was motioning to. Surrounding the three of you was a large mass of villains, faces adorned with smirks and fighting stances ready.
"They're afraid of us." You pointed out dully as your finger pointed lazily at the group. "They don't know our quirks, they want us to make the first move."
"What do you know bitch!" Barked one of the villains. "Come a step closer and I'll slit your throat."
You shrugged, uncaring. "So what? Why don't you just come over here and do it."
"Aizawa." Kirishima hissed, seemingly worried.
"Oh you have it coming for you now!" He bellowed and charged towards you.
You would give it to him, he was fast.
You barely moved as you swept out your leg and knocked him on his ass. Before he could get up you threateningly pulled out your ninja stars and held them close to his face.
"Would you like me to continue? Or are you ready to stand down?" You smirked and the villain shook from underneath you.
"Y-Your eyes—" he began and before he could continue, Bakugou knocked him out.
"What the hell?" You snapped. "I had him handled!"
"You're not focused." He fired back before joining Kirishima in the fight that broke out.
The villains dropped one by one.
"That's all of them." Bakugou announced only minutes later. "Buncha mooks." He dropped one to the ground.
"Great! Now let's hurry up and go help the others." Kirishima wiped the sweat that formed from using his quirk off his face. "I'm worried about those guys who don't really have a way to attack!"
"Right and everyone should still be here at the USJ if we are, that means that villains range isn't to far." You added—deep in thought as you spoke.
The two went back and forth about where to go from there, but you couldn't contribute.
My eyes? What about my eyes? Was he just being rude or does he know me from somewhere? Did I frighten him? I've never seen such a weak villain but it is weird that he would comment on them. I know they are a bit different looking but why why why-
"I'm always calm shitty hair!" Bakugou's fit and middle finger flashed at Kirishima knocked you out of your thoughts.
"Ah there it is." The red head laughed.
"I'm outta here." The blonde scoffed as he grabbed your arm to drag you along with him.
"What the hell is with this shit!? I don't need you to protect me dammit!" You protested as you tried to release your arm from his monster grip.
"You clearly do—acting like an airhead and shit. Where is that strong girl who kicked ass the rest of this week? Stop worrying about shit you can't control and protect yourself so we don't have to!" Kirishima quickly pushed himself between the two of you.
"Alright you guys calm down. You convinced me Bakugou we have to trust our friends and you should trust Aizawa-San." He smiled. "Be a man Bakugou!" He punched his fists together, activating his quirk.
**
You were gone for to long.
The fighting had gotten out of control, and they brought more than a few low level thugs.
Your father was a mess, hair lost, skin cracked and bleeding, and a damaged face beyond full repair.
He was being carried by the time the three of you managed your way out. The warp villain was away from 13 and had All Might trapped with the monstrous looking villain.
Midoriya charged towards All Might with Bakugou trailing right behind him.
"Get the hell out of here—Deku!" The boy screamed as he flew passed him and pinned the warp gate villain to the ground.
"Crap I almost had him!" Kirishima groaned.
"You're not much of a fight misty." Bakugou was grinning like an idiot.
"Scum like you could never kill the symbol of peace." Todoroki.
They were all so confident.
You stood, in the middle of the group with Midoriya close to you. He cried out at the sight of you four—but you stood face to face with the leader of the League of Villains.
"You." The strange boy with the hands adorning his body called out to you.
A shiver ran down your spine and Midoriya was the only one who noticed the interaction occurring between you and the villain.
He took a shaky step towards you. "You." He called out again after muttering about the problems Bakugou was causing, pinning down their escape gate.
Your hands fumbled for your pockets as you reached for your ninja stars as you readied to throw them.
Before any of you were ready to react, the leader was on you and had you pinned to the floor, four fingers placed precisely around your neck.
You squirmed as you gripped his arm tightly.
Everyone went to move towards you. "Come closer and I put the fifth finger down and kill her." His hiss made your allies take a nervous step back.
The villain harnessed a new strength he hadn't proved to have throughout the entire battle, and this time your father wasn't there to save you.
"I know you." His voice was more steady as his eyes pinned yours through the fingers on his face.
"No—you don't." You gasped out and his grip tightened.
"Why do I know you?" His voice shook again and his face creeped closer to your own. He inspected every inch of your face. "You don't look entirely familiar but your presence is drawing me to you, though I'll have to admit that your face really pisses me off." His voice steadied as he leaned down and whispered.
"Fu..." your voice broke.
His other hand creeped up under his eye as his knee pressed harshly into your thigh, making you wince, and he began scratching anxiously.
"Why do I know you? Why do I know you? Tell me dammit!"
You took the opportunity to activate your quirk, levitating upwards.
His grip on your throat loosened as you slammed your elbow into his face and he fell to the ground.
You coughed uncontrollably as air began to seep back into your lungs.
"Y/n!" Izuku screamed.
"Who are you? Tell me!" The villain screamed.
"Damn why don't you tell me your name first? Kinda rude to get all demanding like that if you ask me." You tried to build your confidence back up—desperately tried to stand strong.
My eyes...is it my eyes?
"Tomura Shigarakai! You need to contain yourself!" The warp villain called from under Bakugou's grip—who responded with a nice blast to the neck.
The villain kept scratching. "Nomu." Your head shot towards the villain that had been tangled up with All Might. "Take out the explosive brat. We need our escape route back."
His sudden calmness caused his words to take a second to sink in.
"Bakugou!" You screamed—deactivating your quirk, landing on the ground, prepared to charge towards him.
The villain broke free of Todoroki's quirk and his destroyed arm began to hyper regenerate. Your eyes widened and there was suddenly a gust of wind, sending you and your friends toppling backwards.
"Kacchan!" Deku screamed. "Kacchan?" His expression was horrific as he saw said explosive boy beside him.
"You dodged that? Wow!" Midoriya exclaimed and the boy scoffed.
"I didn't shut up."
The five of you stared at the number one hero in awe.
"That heroism, with you, the plain one, that...that girl, it all pisses me off!" The villain screamed.
"It's three on six." Todoroki pointed out.
"But Kacchan showed us the mist villain has a weak point!"
"And the one with the hands is clearly wonky." You scoffed.
"These are some brutal dudes but with us supporting All Might! We can take em!" Kirishima added as he shifted into a fierce fighting stance.
"No! Get out of here!"
Your eyes made their way to the symbol of peace once more. You felt a new appreciation for the hero who had always been so strange with you.
"Things wouldn't be going this well if I hadn't stepped in." Todoroki countered.
"We're here too you idiot." You sneered.
"All Might! You're bleeding." Midoriya cried. "And your time-"
"Right you are Todoroki! So thanks for that! But fear not, sit back and watch a pro get serious!" He interrupted Midoriya.
"What's going on?" You asked in a low voice as you grabbed the anxious boy by the arm.
"W-What?" He asked as his eyes met yours.
"Why are you so worried? What do you know that we don't?" Your eyes slitted.
He shook his head as he laughed anxiously. "I don't know anything!" His voice squeaked.
"Don't fucking lie to me Midoriya—"
A gust of air came flying towards you as the five of you noticed the villain with the decay quirk rush towards you.
"Shit!" You pulled Midoriya out of the way to dodge.
"Let's clear the game and go home!" His eyes narrowed on you. "And we'll bring this one with us."
One of All Might's hits sent the villain flying back. "He's got shock absorption. You already saw it yourself!"
"A head on assault!"
"Holy shit!"
All Might went beyond the villain's quirk and sent him flying out of the facility.
"You cheated!"
"You're not weakened at all! They lied to me! You cheated!"
"If you think you can take me then bring it on!" All Might bellowed, now facing off with the villainous boy.
"Midoriya we better just hang back, we're not ready for this level yet." Kirishima warned the boy who looked ready to jump back in and save All Might "Rush in and they might just take you hostage."
"No—that's—" Midoriya whispered frantically.
You grabbed the boy's arm. "What's wrong?" You asked, clearly besides the obvious.
It was almost like he didn't hear you, lost in his own thoughts and his eyes glued to the stand-off.
"Izuku." You snapped and his eyes flickered back to yours in shock.
"I'm sorry." He whispered, shaking his head before channeling his power to his legs and he was in the air once more, hurling towards the villains.
"Midoriya!" You screamed, the phantom feeling of his arm still dancing across your finger tips.
"Get away from All Might!" The boy screamed louder than any of you had ever heard as he barreled towards the villain, ready for the fight of his life.
You watched in horror as the villain's hand reached through the warp gate and traveled straight towards Midoriya's face.
He was going to fast.
There was no time to adjust and stop the attack.
Your hand shook as you reached your finger out and tried to float the boy so the villain would miss—but your power was simply not strong enough.
You cried out for him, falling to your knees. Your father didn't train you to be this weak—what kind of disappointment are you trying to be?
A loud shot was heard and Bakugou helped you back to your feet as he motioned towards the array of pro heroes who were finally there to help you all.
"Sorry everyone—we're a little late but we brought everyone we could."
"Ah they're here, game over, we'll have to try again another time Kurogiri." The man began to walk back towards the warp gate villain—but was met with an array of gun shots.
Before he had a chance to just jump in, 13 activated their quirk.
"I may have failed here Symbol of Peace, but next time we meet—you're dead All Might. Next time I'll be taking that girl with me." His injured arm lifted and pointed at you head on shakily, and then he was gone.
Your eyes searched frantically for the boy who had more internal strength than you had ever known. You could barely even compare yourself to him and his resolve anymore.
He was stronger than you, he always would be.
Izuku laid on the ground, struggling to sit up.
"Our teachers, all the pros are gathered here. So that must mean there was no attack on the school."
Bakugou approached you and grabbed onto you tightly.
"Stay on your feet eye bags." Bakugou's grumble was as soft as a whisper as he felt you shaking under his hold. "You may be one of the most highly trained students, but if you can't handle your fear than where are you even going?"
"Shut up you asshole." You felt tears brimming. "You have no idea what any of this feels like." You ripped your arm from his grasp.
Your whole life you trained to be strong, you always were told you were. But when it really counted you couldn't jump into action. You couldn't save Izuku or All Might.
You couldn't figure out what your eyes meant to that thug—or why the boy seemed to know you.
In the end you were to weak, and before you could reach Midoriya—there was a sudden wall blocking Kirishima from All Might and Midoriya.
You couldn't join him even if you wanted too.
***
"Besides the one with the messed up legs and the girl who we took in to have her throat checked out—they all seem to be unharmed!"
Your classmates began to talk nervously, worried about each other and all the teachers.
"I hope Y/n and Midoriya will be okay." Kirishima spoke as he stood next to Bakugou.
"She'll be fine." Bakugou bit.
Kirishima looked at him with a bit of surprise. "Well I hope so, why are you so sure though?" He asked, wondering how the blonde processed everything.
He also noticed how Bakugou showed an interest in you that he hadn't granted anyone else—it was quite intriguing.
"Because she is strong as hell, she just doesn't see that yet." He spoke with easy confidence.
"She seems pretty sure of herself most of the time to me-"
"Sure in a class setting. She was strong today too." He reiterated.
"We're going to get you kids back to the classroom, it's no time to take your statements." The officer spoke with a smile on his face.
"Wait ribbit, what about Aizawa Sensei?" Tsu asked nervously.
"Both of his arms were smashed to splinters. His face is also fractured. Thankfully he doesn't have any brain damage. But his eye socket has been pulverized so there is a chance he will have a long term loss of vision."
*
"Dad." Your voice was shaking as your father was reeled out of surgery and back into the hospital room.
You were accompanied by your father's best friend Present Mic (even if he wouldn't admit how much he cherished him.)
"He's going to be okay kid." Mic placed a hand on your shaking shoulder.
"Shut up you don't know that." You sobbed, trying to shove his arm away, but to weak to be successful.
"The surgery was successful. He will have full use of his arms and eyes again. He is lucky." He assured you.
"I couldn't save him!" You cried out. "I took my time being scared and couldn't save my dad! What kind of hero am I going to be?"
You fell to the floor and Mic was quickly there to wrap his arms around you and allowed you to cry into his chest.
"After this you will be the bravest hero, you won't let a villain scare you ever again." He tucked a strand of hair behind your ear.
"How can you be so sure?"
"Because you are the bravest person I have ever met." He smiled as his eyes met yours. "And there's no way you're going to let some low level villain scare you like that." He winked.
You laughed bitterly. "I'll try not to."
"No Y/n, you won't let it."
You were glad at the time that he was so sure of you and your strengths. In the months to come, terror would occur and secrets would unveil, and you would cling to the memory of those words like a lifeline.
