24. i know who you are
The warp ink, had a terrible taste.
It was all consuming, clinging to every part of you even as it dissipated.
"Eyebags!" Bakugou's voice called out, following his yell with a loud series of coughs. "Damn, what was that?" You rubbed it out of your eyes as you heard him patting around on the ground, looking for you.
"I'm here." You gagged, the remnants of the ink still haunting your throat.
"Apologies, you two." A voice hummed.
You could see Bakugou now, the way his eyes cut in the direction of the voice. He was panting, the remnants of the quirk still stuck with him as well—sweat dripping down his paling face.
"So you're that girl Tomura hasn't stopped talking about?" The voice you still refused to turn your head and identify the speaker, asked with an amused chuckle. "Do tell me, has he figured it out yet?"
Your eyes widened as you remembered the last thing Shigaraki tried to say to you. "I think so." You whispered.
"Ah, here they are now." The rest of the villains captured by the warp ink were now arriving on this odd plot of land. It was clearly a destruction sight, but you couldn't tell what it had been before.
Or who had been there when the violence ensued.
"You've failed again Tomura, but you mustn't lose heart."
The villain was terrifying, his face wasn't even recognizable behind the dark mask and the peek of wires that surrounded his head.
He reached out his hand to the boy kneeling on the ground before him. "Try again, it's all for you."
"I knew you'd come." The villain said after a moment, but it didn't seem like he was addressing the boy on the ground before him.
You don't know how the villain sensed his presence.
All Might came barreling into the scene, his fists colliding with the villain's immediately. But the terrifying part was, the villain was holding him back—seemingly with ease.
"Come to kill me again, All Might?" The villain shouted, the amusement that held strong each time he spoke was clear in his voice.
The taunting was endless, the man pointed out the ways All Might had grown weaker in their time apart. He was relentless, strong physically and brilliant in psychological warfare.
"I'm not making the same mistakes I did five years ago, All For One!" All Might snapped. "I'm taking Bakugou and Aizawa with me and then I'm smashing you into a prison cell."
The villain, All For One, chuckle appreciatively at All Might's declaration. "So are you saying you don't know who she is either?" He asked, tilting his head covered in the industrial mask. "Being that you're still calling her by that silly cover up name."
All Might stiffened.
"He knows too?" You whispered.
"Of course he does, eyebags." Bakugou grumbled by your side. "If that twig inside knew then of course his boss does."
"I don't know what you're talking about." All Might shook his head.
"Oh? I don't believe you, but for Tomura and that girl's sake I think it's time to finally tell everyone who she is."
A rush of adrenaline entered your system at the thought of finding out who you used to be. You were incredibly conflicted, the side of you that has wanted to know where you came from your entire life was there and ready to listen, but the side of you that loved your friends and family and wanted to be a hero more than anything...she wanted to fight back.
"Stop it!" You screamed.
Bakugou pulled you down by the wrist. "Do you have a death wish?" He hissed.
All For One glanced over at you, seemingly curious. "What? You mean you don't want to know?" He chuckled softly.
"No!" You yelled. "My father will tell me who I am when he is ready. I don't wish to know my past from someone as wicked as you!" You stumbled back and fell into Bakugou's chest, his hand was still wrapped around you as if he could protect you from this insanity.
You couldn't believe you were saying any of this. For so long this was all you wanted. It was right in your reach and you were throwing it away.
The villain chuckled, blocking another one of All Might's punches. "Oh, dear girl." The villain's voice drawled into a cruel laugh. "They kept it a secret from you to protect you from me! They were never going to tell you! But here I am—I've found you, so it's now or never!" He laughed maniacally.
But what...what does he want with me?
"The two of you run!" All Might bellowed, Bakugou grabbed your arm—pulling you to your feet, but the members of the League of Villains quickly circled you.
"Don't you want to know, Y/n?" Shigaraki scratched at his neck. "I know. I remember you."
In an instant, it was like the villains quirk had changed. An evil flicker of light smacked right into All Might and sent him flying back miles.
"Now that the distraction is out of the way." All For One brushed his hands together. "I have about fifteen more seconds to share your story."
"I don't wanna hear it!" You screamed.
"Your name is Y/n Shimura. You are the one who lived, after your brother killed everyone in your family but you." He began to speak again, but All Might had returned—quicker than the villain had anticipated.
"You are one of the last of Nana Shimura's bloodline—that's why they were hiding you from me!"
All For One force activated Kurogiri's quirk. "You need to flee Tomura, take them with you."
Your mind was spinning but you didn't let that distract you from aiding Bakugou in fighting off the villains ahead of you.
Shimura...Shimura...Nana Shimura.
"Hi Y/n!" Toga giggled as she swung her knife towards your head. You dodged and grabbed her wrist but she pulled herself closer. "Can I call you that? Or would you rather me call you Shimura-Chan instead?" She giggled and you punched her in the face.
An explosive sound went flying through the sky. It distracted all of you momentarily and you saw a flicker of green light, a flicker of hope.
Izuku.
Kirishima was reaching out to the two of you. "Come on!" He screamed.
Bakugou didn't waste a second, he grabbed you by the hand and pulled you close to his side. "Activate your quirk." He warned, sending of an intense explosion that sent the two of you barreling into the sky at a rate you had never experienced before.
You clung to his neck as your quirk kept your body light. Bakugou's hand clamped with Kirishima's as his lips twisted into a wild grin.
"You idiots!"
*
As the five of you flew through the air, your body was scuffed by the explosions coming from Bakugou and Iida, but you didn't care.
Mount Lady and your grandfather both ensured your scape route stayed clear as other villains began to come for you.
You made it to the ground, safe and all limbs in tact.
The five of you ran like your lives depended on it until you were safely hidden amongst the civilians.
Izuku's phone was ringing in his pocket, but he tossed it over to Iida before pulling you in for the tightest hug you had ever felt.
"Y/n." He whispered your name against your ear like a prayer. "Y/n...Y/n...."
"I'm here now." You said, tears slowly trailing down your cheeks and clutching the back of his odd shirt. "You saved me, thank you."
His hand were through your hair and cupping the side of your face, his thumbs caressing your cheeks. You thought in that moment that he would kiss you, but he laid his forehead against yours. "Are you okay?" He whispered. His eyes were slanted, like he finally felt a moment of relaxation now that you were back in his arms.
"I just said-"
"With what All For One said." He clarified and your breathing hitched in your throat.
"It's all a little confusing." You admitted. "I don't know who Nana Shimura is—or why my brother killed everyone but me, and is my brother supposed to be Shigaraki? Is that why he somehow knows me and I-?"
One of his hands rested on the back of your head and he pulled you against his chest once more, noticing that you were crying before the feeling ever registered for you.
"You're still the same person you've always been." Izuku said. "Y/n Aizawa. With friends and family who love you so much."
You nodded.
"And it's okay Y/n, to grieve the loss of a family you never got to know." He spoke against your ear. "But just promise me you'll remember all of us here who do love you. You do have a family."
"I do, I know, I promise." You leaned back so you could look into his eyes. They were sparkling like they always were when he looked at you. There was a mix of sadness and relief in those beautiful green eyes. "It's just things like, where did my quirk come from? Why is it weird? Is it a mutation?" You laughed softly.
"I've always wondered those things. Why my eyes look like this, why my hair is this color. These were all questions my dad could never answer, never would." You added.
"Are you angry with him?" Izuku asked.
You shook your head. "I was for a long time, deep down. But after seeing what he was protecting me from—I could never hold that against him."
Izuku shook his head, seemingly at a loss for words. "Oh God, Y/n. I thought I lost you." He was trembling, all over. You could tell that he wanted to continue the conversation like he thought you needed, but sometimes his emotions became too overwhelming to remain strong.
You smiled gently, pulling him in closer as you pressed a gently kiss on his lips. "I'm not going anywhere again." You promised.
And you wanted to believe that, you really did.
But being that Shigaraki was still and there, undoubtedly still searching for you, how could you be sure?
The two of you rejoined your group, Iida handed Izuku his phone back—eyeing you warily.
Bakugou stood with his arms crossed and an angry expression like normal, refusing to even look your way. Kirishima clearly felt a little uncomfortable, like he wanted to ask what was going on, but not as much as Iida did.
"Todoroki and Yaoyorozu got away safe." Iida told him, stiffer than usual. "They're by the train station, way out of way of the attack."
Your phone buzzed in your pocket and you saw your father's image pass over your screen. You held up your phone to your friends. "I'm going to take this really quick."
You stepped a little bit away, clearly making Izuku nervous by doing so.
You answered the phone. "Dad."
He let out a long breath once he heard your voice, like he hadn't breathed at all the entire time you were missing. "Dammit Y/n." He was crying. "I'm so sorry."
You felt like you could breathe again too. "I'm okay, dad."
"I have so much I need to say to you, but that can wait until later. Please stay safe until they can get you home. I love you so much."
You smiled gently. "I love you too."
You ended the call.
When you returned to the group they were all staring at the large televisions before them. "What's going-" That's when you saw the fight you just escaped from displayed on live television.
The looks of horror on their faces made too much sense now. All Might stood, with smoke surrounding his body. But only, this time he looked much more like that man from the police station instead of Japan's number one hero.
"Oh my-"
"All Might?"
"What-"
Izuku was trembling.
The crowd began to tremor with the truth being exposed. You noticed All Might and All For One were communicating, All Might began shaking with rage and terror.
"Win." Bakugou whispered.
"Win." You repeated, your voice shaking.
"He's still our All Might! Who cares if he looks a little bit different?" Someone from the crowd shouted.
"COME ON ALL MIGHT!" You and your friends cried out. "YOU CAN WIN THIS!"
Your eyes, even though filled with tears, were glued to the screen. All Might had flickers of yellow surrounding his arm as it returned to his grandiose muscular size. "I can't lose." You could hardly hear the audio but you could see the way his mouth moved just fine.
It was truly the most emotional moment of your life. Nothing compared to the tremor of your heart, the cries of the crowd. Not the moment you found out about your family, not the moment you were kidnapped, not the moment you shared your first kiss with Izuku, not the moment you met you friends and all of your loved ones.
This. This moment was so terrifying—but alas you were so full of hope. Everyone was in tears, putting their full faith in someone who had proven to be lying the past decades, but they still trusted someone so much.
You had never understood what it meant to be a hero until this moment. You knew right then you could never stop, you wanted to protect people—give them so much faith that they would shed tears for you and wouldn't be let down by you being at your lowest.
The villain had shifted his arm and combined a mass load of quirks into one as he readied himself to defend—or attack All Might. Without a proper face, his intentions were unclear.
All Might was determined, fueled by the cries of the people who trusted and loved him.
Just when it seemed like all hope was lost, when All Might felt the tremor of his power fall back into him—he recoiled and hit the villain square in his disfigured face with his final smash.
We know who you are, All Might.
