23. a way of life

When you woke up, your first thought was of Izuku.

You dreamt about him as well, the way he ran for you—barely too late to reach you, the phantom feeling of his fingers brushing across the tips of yours.

You remembered the thought you had when you reached out your hand, how you just wanted to touch him one last time. You wanted to have faith that your father and the rest of the hero committee would get you out of this—but things weren't looking great.

"Welcome to the party, eye bags." Bakugou grumbled, which is when you felt the hefty chains weighing down your small frame.

He looked as if he had been awake longer. His eyes were filled with worry, and you noticed the way his arm twitched, appearing as if he was clenching his fists through the prison the villains put them in.

Bakugou wanted out and he wanted to pummel those assholes for thinking they could grab either of you.

"Now that you're awake, let's get down to business."

You recognized a few of the villains who attacked the training camp. Toga was staring right at you, resting her head on her hand that was held up by the bar. Her smirk grew as she twirled her knife in slow circles on the counter top. You couldn't tell if she was excited you were awake or awaiting the moment she could kill you.

"Won't you join me, wannabe hero Katsuki Bakugou?" Shigaraki spoke. It unnerved you that he didn't give out the same offer to you. You didn't like that Bakugou seemed to have a choice while you were stuck here whether you liked it or not.

"You can shove your offer and go to hell." Bakugou was smiling, a bit crazed, but smiling nonetheless. His expression brought you back to that night your father expressed his concerted for the boy, but it was clear he didn't understand Bakugou.

He would never be a villain, not ever.

Maybe you didn't understand him either.

Shigaraki ignored him momentarily, facing you. "Have you heard, Aizawa-Chan?" He grinned greedily, knowing you haven't seen anything other than this room for however long you'd been there. "Look at this! You're dad is apologizing on live TV."

Your eyes widened as you saw the image of your father standing with the representatives of U.A, apologizing for the camp.

"It seems he doesn't care about you at all, doesn't it? He's on live tv instead of searching for his little girl."

"Don't listen to him." Bakugou hissed.

You stared at the television, watched as your father bowed his head shamefully. You squinted your eyes, trying to make out his features. His hair was slicked back, extremely unordinary for him, his entire body was tense and there were deep circles under his eyes.

Was it because he was so worried about you or the fact that he had to be on tv?

Was it-

"Y/n." Bakugou snapped and your eyes met his. "He'll come find you."

"Why're they criticizing the heroes anyways, huh?" Shigaraki held his arms out theatrically.

"Their only crime was doing too little too late." The villain with the patched up face added with a snarky little hum.

"It is their job to protect people, but anyone can screw up now and then right?" Shigaraki laughed. "Heroes sure do have it rough, I'd say. Am I right?" This time he was directing his question to both of you.

Bakugou remained silent as the League of Villains shared their own opinions on heroes with you. You watched Bakugou carefully out of the corner of your eyes, there was no shift in his expression as he watched.

He must be coming up with a plan to get out of there, right? Or was he expecting that you were?

"And I know...you love to win!"

Or was he actually listening to this garbage?

"Dabi, untie him."

Dabi, the villain with the stapled skin, look baffled by this demand. "Huh? He'll go wild for sure."

Bakugou's brow twitched as if it was begging him to scream: I'd sure as fuck blast you to hell.

"We have to treat him as an equal, we're scouting him after all, besides—before he throws a tantrum, our little U.A student knows he can't win." Shigaraki's eyes showed his wicked grin.

"What about the girl?" Dabi asked, jerking his head in your direction.

"The girl?" He asked with a hum, turning his body to face you. "She's only going to talk to me."

"Twice—you do it!" Dabi deflected his boss's demand.

The villains began going on a tangent of why Bakugou was the greatest choice, why it wasn't by accident. He even related it to you, people who have suffered at the hands of heroes. Detrimental choices were made to hurt each and every person in this room.

Twice finished unchaining Bakugou—who's eyes immediately flickered over to Shigaraki, who was heading straight towards you.

Without even batting an eye, Bakugou leaped forward and sent a explosive blast in his face.

You smiled expectantly as Bakugou regained his footing, hunched over on the ground as he scoffed. "I can't stand idiots like you, damn morons who can never get to the point!" He growled. "Boring us to death over here." He lifted his head and grinned wickedly.

"Shigaraki!" Twice cried.

"So you want us to cause trouble and be your pals, eh?" Bakugou snickered. "What a joke." His eyes flickered over to you and you could see the way he scanned you over to check for any injury he could have possibly missed in those fifteen seconds.

"I've always admired All Might's triumphs, no matter what any of you jerks say—nothing is gonna change that!"

You noticed the way that Shigaraki stared at the ground, his hair covering his scarred face. Your eyes flickered to the floor and you saw the hand that once held his face so tightly, discarded on the floor.

"Father." He whispered.

"Eraserhead! Is it true that your daughter was taken along with the boy?" A reporter from the crowd asked as the tv was suddenly worth noticing again.

"We will get both students back." Your father spoke through gritted teeth. "I trust them both to remain strong and hopeful."

"Hah! Good old U.A looking out for us eye bags." Bakugou chuckled.

Bakugou stood in a lunged position, the wicked grin still plastered to his beautiful face. You could tell he was thinking about his options, his brow was quirked in a way that showed you he was trying to keep up this grand show of confidence.

You squirmed in your chains. "You know you could always unlock me!" You yelled out to the blonde.

He shook his head, smile falling. "And give this bastard a chance to take off with you? No way in hell."

Your eyes widened, you teased him about his emotions, sure, but you were the idiot for not realizing how much he really cared about you. The way he didn't even look back, so he wouldn't be distracted by your presence showed you that this was way more than just him trying to be a hero.

In that moment, he'd do anything to save you.

"If I'm not feeling something than I ain't gonna lie about it it!" He grinned, responding to whatever the villain who captured you had said. "And I'm not in the mood to hang around this dump any longer. I gotta get eye bags home so her dad doesn't yell at me for keeping her out past her curfew."

You smiled gently, this boy was such an idiot, playing around effortlessly with a whole gang of villains just to make you smile.

"You mustn't Tomura Shigaraki! Please calm yourself!" The warp gate rushed towards the boy with the light blue hair and scarred face.

His glare cut over to Bakugou's in an instant as he whipped his hand out to stop his companion from coming any closer. "Stay back. All of you." He growled, reaching down slowly to grab the large hand that typically held his face.

"This kid is an important pawn." He latched the hand back to his face and scratched his scarred neck. "And like I said, she's mine. None of you get to touch her."

"I wish you would have listened Bakugou, I thought we could understand each other." Understand, understand, understand.

"Nope!" His grin was still firm until Shigaraki began talking about the heroes investigation. "You won't get her either dammit! I'm not leaving her here with scum like you."

"Master, lend me your power."

"I knew you didn't lead your own organization you piece of shit!" You yelled, as soon as those words left his pale lips, following with a laugh as you thought back to that night in the alley where he tried to scare you with the fact he was the leader of a gang of villains.

Bakugou laughed along with you. "Pretty disappointing if you ask me!"

The villains made a terrible choice taking the two of you—not only did they kidnap obnoxious children, but the two most chaotic in Class 1-A.

Their patience was really tested that night.

Safe to say, none of them will want to have children after this encounter.

"Compress, Kurogiri, put him to sleep again. We might need to do the same for her but I believe she'll be easier to manage."

Bakugou stiffened, screaming at the villain before him more as if he was deflecting their plan. There was a loud knock on the door.

"Hello, Kamino pizza delivery."

"Who the fuck ordered a pizza-"

The first thing that registered was the sound, the deafening crash of the wall being smashed down around them. That's when you saw All Might, announcing his attack as he flew through the opening.

"WHAT THE??"

"KUROGIRI! Warp us-"

"Lacquered chain prison!"

Your eyes caught your grandfather, who smashed his foot into Dani's head, the villain who was trying his damndest to send the branches into flames.

He darted towards you, pure terror in his eyes that began to well with tears. "It's good to see you alive, kid." He started unlocking your chains and you let out a sound that was somewhere between a laugh and a cry.

The old man hugged you quickly before rounding up the rest of the villains.

"That's our young upstart, Kamui Woods!! And the speediest old timer out there, Gran Torino!" All Might grinned. "There's no escape for you, League of Villains."

"Why? You ask? Because we are here!"

You shuffled closer to Bakugou, ready to fight back if necessary. Instead of remaining in a fighting stance, he pulled you into a tight hug.

"That was terrifying." His admission was hot against your neck.

"You held your own pretty well." You laughed softly, patting his back.

"No, seeing you chained up like that." He whispered.

Your eyes widened. "It's okay, I'm okay." You promised, you placed your hand on the back of his head that was buried in the crook of your neck, taking a moment to be surprised at how soft it was.

All Might approached the two of you, glancing down at you both as you separated with the same beaming expression written across his muscular face. "Must've been scary, good job holding out you two!"

Bakugou trembled before his defense mechanisms exploded again. "Scary? As if! I almost had 'em!!"

"Looks like you've still got a lot to learn Shigaraki!" All Might wrapped his arms around the two of you and pulled you close to him. Bakugou squirmed uncomfortably and you cringed at the contact.

"Get your hands off her!" Shigaraki screamed. "I need to know who she is! She's mine!" He yelled back and forth as he called for the Nomu's to retrieve you, just to find out that they were no longer there.

"It ends here Tomura Shigaraki!"

Shigaraki stopped his yelling, gazing up at the number one hero between the fingers around his eyes. "Ends here? Oh no, it is only just beginning."

Shigaraki went on and on about the false sense of peace and justice All Might portrayed. "I've already started finding allies, so make no mistake—this is where it all begins." He turned his head. "Kurogiri!"

Shigaraki began to shake as the ninja hero took out their only escape route. His mind was swarming. In that moment it seemed as if he wasn't even there any more, the demands of your grandfather and the number one hero weren't even registering.

"TELL US WHERE YOUR LEADER IS BOY!"

Gran Torino and All Might continued their screaming, demanding to find the man behind this all. A memory was clearly passing through the capacitated boy. His eyes locked onto your's as his body continued shaking, clearly having the urge to scratch.

"You." He whispered. "I know who you are."

Your heart pounded against your chest, but he just said he didn't know. "Who-"

"You don't know anything!" Gran Torino snapped. "Tell us where-"

"Y/n Shi-"

And with that, seemingly out of nowhere, but convenient timing nonetheless, a different form of the warp gate entered the old bar.

A mass of wicked looking nomu's came hopped into the decimated area, sprouting in all sorts of directions—evil and snarling as they were ready to leap for their prey.

Bakugou's eyes were locked onto yours in pure terror as the warp substance that brought in the nomus took over both of your bodies.

And with that, you were gone once more.
