21. secret's safe with me

You stumbled into the girls room way to late that night. Mina was sitting there, a chair she clearly pulled up next to the door with her legs and arms crossed—a devious smirk plastered on her face.

"Shut up." You grumbled, closing the door behind you and pushing past her.

"I haven't even said anything yet." She teased, following you into the room.

"You said plenty." You said, freezing as you noticed the lights were still on and all of your friends were staring eagerly at you.

"All of you! Shut up!" You stormed to your pallet on the floor, completely embarrassed, and hiding under your blankets as they all giggled about you.

They all knew.

The second morning was hellish, to say the least.

Not only was everyone exhausted from the venture into the beast forest, but your friends stayed up for hours pressuring you into telling them why you were late to the room.

Not only that, but you were wide awake from the adrenaline the kiss and it's memory brought to you so easily.

You wanted to text him, but your father had collected all of your phones when you got on the bus.

The night was frustrating, but being awake now was even more irritating.

"Today, the real training camp begins." Your father in his aloof position as always began. "Ideally, you all will emerge stronger, strong enough to obtain your provisional licenses."

His little speech was unnerving, especially as he began reminding you and your class of the growing threat out there. Shigaraki's voice rang in your ears, next time. So simple, and yet so chilling.

As Bakugou caught the ball your father threw to him, Izuku's bright green eyes, filled with nervousness, met yours. He was blatantly not watching the boy's presentation, just completely enamored by you.

You smiled shyly, lifted your hand to wave at him.

He mirrored your movements, before turning to face the demonstration.

"Girl, he's whipped." Mina, from beside you said.

Your body stiffened, often forgetting that it wasn't just you in this world.

"He's not!" You whisper yelled.

"Okay, then why is he still watching you." Mina hummed. You quickly glanced back over to the boy and noticed he was turning his head every so often to catch a glimpse of you. Turning back to Mina, she still had a smirk covering her face. "Wanna tell me what you two did last night?"

You quickly covered her mouth. "Quit insinuating things with that tone!" You hissed.

"GO TO HELL!"

You quickly looked over to Bakugou, seeing that he threw the ball—the blast from the throw was still visible in the sky.

"709.6 meters."

Thats not much improvement at all. You thought to yourself, staring down at your hands.

"Starting today you'll improve your quirks." Your father's grin expanded, so wickedly. "This will be so harsh that you'll wish you were dead so do your best to stay alive."

*

"You're slacking."

Panting, gripping the wall of rocks ahead of you—you quickly turned and sent him a harsh glare. "I'm breathing!" Your wheeze was harsh.

Your father walked away chuckling, shaking his head to leave you to your misery.

They created a unique torture device for all of you, encouraging you to strengthen your quirks. For you, they left you with a big slabs of rock you were tasked to break and then make float.

They also said if you were feeling a little crazy, you could make the rocks float and then float up and step on each one.

That was ridiculous.

You activated your weird part of your quirk to your leg, spun and slammed it into the wall once more, sending cracks through it.

They expected you to be able to simply break it with ease, but you have yet to do more damage than cracks on your first swing.

Again and again you kicked at the rock until the after effects of your quirk began to kick in, sending intense cramps through your muscles.

Wincing, you pointed to the rock and tried to will the large slab to float. It was rocky, shaking itself as it tried to answer your command.

"Dammit." You wheezed, falling back.

You thought back to your conversation with Ochaco, how she wondered if you could eventually learn how to float people. Small objects were easy, you had shown that to Mina when you floated that bracelet back on the first day—but you had never bested floating others.

This felt pointless, if you couldn't even float a rock that was half the weight of a normal person, then how could you ever float someone else?

"Like we said, the pampering ended yesterday!"

"Wanna eat then you've gotta cook it for yourselves!! Today is curry!"

"Woah Y/n! You're really good with that knife!" Mina cheered, watching you with stars in her eyes as you quickly sliced everything they needed for the curry.

"That's because my stupid dad makes me cook for him all the time." You grumbled, sliding the diced veggies away, and replacing it with whole uncooked ones.

"But it's good life skills to have." She giggled mischievously. "Before your next night with Midoriya maybe you could trying making him something."

Your breathing hitched at the mention of his name and you glanced around anxiously to ensure he wasn't anywhere near you. "Shut up! I'm an independent woman who needs no man and will not cook for one."

"You just said you cook for your dad."

"Completely different!"

After finishing your food, you felt a light tap on your shoulder.

You turned and saw Izuku standing behind you with a small smile on his face. He tilted his head to the side mouthing, come with me.

Nervous, you stood and followed him, noticing the bowl of curry in his hands.

"Where are we going?" You asked as the two of you ventured into the woods.

"I think I saw Kota come out here, I wanted to bring him something to eat." His green eyes, sparkling with the stars looked over at you. "And I wanted an excuse to see you."

You gulped, hard. "You've seen me all day." Your hands shook nervously at your sides.

"Yeah, but I haven't really seen you." He smiled. "We've been crazy busy today, how did your training go?"

You sighed, forgetting how defeated that had made you feel. "Not great." He looked worried momentarily. "I just don't feel like I'm making any progress."

"In what area?"

"Floating others, I want to be able to float people sort of like Ochaco can. But I can barely even manage to float a piece of a rock." You grumbled.

He was quiet for a moment, thinking. "Well you could always practice on me."

You laughed softly. "You've got your own training to do."

He nodded. "I know, maybe in the morning before it all starts." He shrugged, looking ahead. "There he is." He whispered, pointing towards the boy sitting on the cliff.

It was a beautiful spot really. It was a massive cliff overlooking the entire property. You had never seen the trees and the stars collide in such a beautiful way. You could stay up here for hours if they let you.

"I bet you're hungry." Izuku called, walking ahead as you admired the view. "Here's a plate for you—it's curry."

"How'd you know I was here!?" Kota exclaimed, horrified that his hiding place had been breached.

"Oh, I'm sorry." Izuku stammered, "We followed your foot prints, thought you'd want some food."

another cliff

The air was thick around them.

They shouldn't be there, the air itself was rejecting their presence. They were waiting anxiously, hungry and desperate to fulfill the mission they were sent for.

"I'm itching...I'm itching to go. Let's hurry up and move!" This stranger was cloaked.

"It's to soon, and I already told you there's no need for anything flashy."

"Yeah, besides who died and made you boss?"

They continued like that, reveled in the mastery of the plan they were tasked to fulfill.

"We'll fill those heroes full of holes."

They were ready—to obtain their targets and leave everyone else there to burn.

The two of you walked back down the cliff in silence. The conversation had been intense, one Izuku clearly didn't enjoy having. You didn't know that the boy's parents had died, let alone that Izuku already knew about it.

It made more sense now why the boy hated you all so much, but you could tell that only encouraged Izuku to try harder to save him.

"Are you okay?" You asked softly, the two of you walking in a tangent that had your sides brushing against each other with each step.

He nodded softly. "Yeah. I just hope I can help him before this trip is over."

"You will." You whispered, staring at his features.

He smiled, his finger bumping into yours. Your heart began to beat at an endless pace, only quickening as his finger hooked with yours—pulling your hand closer so he could lace his fingers with yours.

You still weren't sure what this was between the two of you, but all you knew what it felt right.

And with the way he was looking at you right now, you could tell he felt it too.

**

The third day of training was the worst so far.

Your muscles were incredibly tired and you were back in front of your slabs of rocks.

Fortunately, you could now send the rock into pieces with one kick.

At least that was progressing.

Slumping back to the floor for a short break, you heard your father yelling at Ochaco.

"Always be conscious of who you are. That's the key to improvement." Now you were listening. "That's why you're out here sweating. Why I'm riding you so hard. Keep it in mind, always."

Who I am.

That was still such a lingering question you had. Especially as Tomura Shigaraki continued to rise.

You tried to remind yourself: I'm Y/n Aizawa, with a father and grandfather who love me. I have new friends and a future in sight.

But sometimes, that wasn't enough.

And this time, when you willed the rock to rise—it did.

**

"Mew mew mew! Listen everyone! Tonight, both classes are going head to head in a test of courage!" You didn't like the idea of this intense fun she was talking about.

You hated scary things with every fiber of your being.

"With that being said! Work your butts off in the meantime."

"Yes ma'am!"

**

"Woah Bakugou I'm surprised you're so good with a kitchen knife!" Ochaco gasped as she saw his immense speed.

"Surprised? The hell can you be bad with a kitchen knife!?" He screamed. "All of you shut up! I'm trying to cut faster than eye bags!"

You grinned deviously as you went through vegetable after vegetable.

The two of you were head to head in this stupid competition you were doing, but you were determined to not let the asshole beat you at something so trivial as cooking.

"What's wrong Bakubro?" You cooed. "Can't handle the pressure of everyone watch you lose?"

"Watch it eye bags or I'll use this on you." He growled.

Kamanari stepped between you two nervously. "Ooooookay I think that's enough knife time for you buddy."

"GET AWAY FROM ME DUNCE FACE."

**

"Y/n!! Save me!" Mina cried as your father dragged her away along with the rest of the remedial group.

"I did everything I could!" You cried back, waving at her sadly.

And by everything you could do, you meant that you begged your father for a whole two minutes and he wouldn't budge. When you tried for three, he smacked you in the head and told you to go back to your training.

Everyone drew lots and you were so relieved that the number of people ended up being even. If you had been alone you would've actually chosen to learn with the remedial group instead.

Your eyes met Izuku's and you smiled shyly when you saw that you were paired up with him.

He walked over to you with his ordinary smile. "Well that was lucky."

You nodded quickly. "I know! I was worried that there wouldn't be enough people since so many are in the remedial group." You laughed.

He nodded, laughing shortly. "I know."

You stood with him as you waited your turn. "I don't really like scary things." You admitted quietly.

He chuckled softly. "I had a feeling." He sighed softly, subtly bumping his finger with yours like he had done the night before. "But you don't need to be scared, I'll be with you all the way." He linked your pinkies as if to assure you that he would be there to hold your hand the whole way if you wanted.

You smiled softly. "Thanks, Izuku."

The air shifted soon after that, a lurking, thick evil feeling swarming the air.

Every part of your body stiffened, you looked around desperately.

"Y/n, what's wrong?" Izuku asked but you weren't processing what he was saying.

Something was wrong, telling you to run.

"How? Even with all our precautions." This voice did register with you.

"How're there villains here!?"
