Chapter 9: Movie*
Rosa's Pov
"You have to be more careful next time!" My older sister, Hilda, pointed at me while telling me off again while riding on the back of her Stoutland. "You had me worried sick last night! You better not get into anymore trouble! I'll pick you up from work tomorrow so you won't be clumsy again" I smiled, liking how I have my loud mouth sister back home with me. All I did was reach for her hand while she was walking beside me sitting comfortably on her Pokémon.
"I know, I know! You don't have to keep repeating yourself" I said "I'm sorry I was clumsy. How many times do I have to tell you?" She huffed.
"A million times! I will not stand to have a sister who can't even walk right!" I glared "Honestly! How do you fall forward and back? You've scraped your forearms and hurt your knees, and even twisted your ankle!"
"Hey! I'm the one in crutches!" She chuckled and smiled at me.
"I'm just kidding, sis" she pet my head "I'm just worried about you, is all. I guess I'm still in work mode" my older sister is a famous movie director in Pokéstar studios and has recently returned home after her major movie was finished. Her and her script writer are on break before they have to go back to work soon.
"Are you this mean to the people who work for you?" I sweat dropped. She shrugged.
"I only do it because they're lazy. Anyways, how was school? Anyone questioned your cast?"
"I just lied and told them it was from falling down the stairs. School felt pretty fast, since I skipped many of my morning classes"
"I loved skipping classes when I was in school" she looked at a random direction "Stay in school, kids" who is she talking to? Is she thinking she's talking to someone behind a screen? She must've overworked herself.
"How about when we get home I'll cook something up for us?" I asked. Hilda put her hands together.
"I would love that! I love your cooking!"
"Rosa!!" Someone yelled in a distance. Stoutland stopped walking when we looked back at who was shouting. It was Serena running towards me in high speed. I jumped, fearing she might hurt herself.
"Hey!" Hilda yelled "Slow down!" Serena looked in panic when looking at her feet unable to stop running. She took out a Pokéball and send out a blue froggy Pokémon.
"Cotton spore!" She yelled. Her Pokémon threw out some cotton to help her land safely. That would have been nice the other day...
Serena got up and dusted herself off before picking up her Pokémon "thank you, Froakie!" She smiled at her Pokémon and looked back at me "Rosa! I'm so glad I caught up with you!"
"You should be more careful" I frowned. Hilda gasped.
"No way! You have friends!?" I sweat dropped at how she made that sound "You said you didn't have friends"
"I don't" I looked back at Serena pouting "Something wrong?"
"I just wanted confirm if you're still on for dinner tonight in Café Audino!" I frowned and looked away.
"I really don't know, Serena..." Hilda looked at me.
"It's a very quiet restaurant! If that's what you're worried about! The place is small so there won't be a lot of people" Serena pushed.
"My sister is in town. I want to spend more time with her" I said. Hilda waved her hand.
"It's okay. I don't mind if you want to be with your friends!" She smiled. Hilda! You're not helping! "Just be back right after, okay?"
"Yes!" Serena cheered. I sighed and got off Stoutland to face her.
"I'll think about it, okay?" She put her hands together.
"I really hope you do come. Everyone is looking forward to see you there" I looked down, playing with my fingers.
"Not everyone..." she patted my shoulder a little too hard.
"Don't be silly! The table will be big, so you'll probably won't even see everyone's faces!" Does she mean Nate? "I look forward to seeing you there!" She ran off, waving "See you later!" I waved and sighed, not believing this was happening.
"What's wrong?" Hilda asked, helping me back on Stoutland.
"I really don't want to go"
"I know you're a loner, but loners don't fit well in society. You need to learn how to talk to people, or else you'll never learn how to live in peace with those around you" we started walking again "These people let you have a seat with them. You should feel good that people are looking forward to your presence"
"That's not the problem" Hilda observed me for a moment.
"That look in your eyes... I can only guess this has to do with Nate?" I gulped. She sighed and shrugged her hands "Of course it is. Things just don't change, so they?"
"I just don't wanna bother him... That's it" I said.
"Girl, if you stop being insecure about that, you'd actually have friends and wouldn't care about things like that!" We made it home, seeing mom cooking some food.
"Mom?" I struggled to walk on my crutches "You got off early?" She looked at me and almost dropped her spatula.
"Rosa! What happened to you?!" I looked down, so Hilda explained what happened "Is that all? How did you scratch yourself up that bad? Is it broken?" She referred to my ankle.
"Yes..." I admit.
"I understand if you twisted it, but you broke it?" I can't tell her that I was attacked and pulled from my ankles harshly. She'll get mad enough if she discovers that I lost my bag again...
"Just landed the wrong way" I lied. She sighed and got us to sit down for dinner.
"Oh mom!" Hilda said as soon as I sat down "Rosa is going to go out for dinner with some friends!" Mom gasped like there was no tomorrow.
"I-I haven't decided!!" I pouted "don't speak for me!"
"Wow! My little girl finally has friends! You were the one who told me you didn't have any! Were you lying?" Mom awed.
"N-no!" I blushed "They're not my friends! They're just some nice people who wanted to invite me!"
"I'm sure if Nate wasn't going you wouldn't mind going if they begged you that badly" Hilda smirked. I blushed and looked down.
"Nate?" Mom held her chin "You guys haven't talked in years. Not once did I hear you mention him"
"You're always working" Hilda sweat dropped "just like me"
"Well yeah, I know" mom frowned "Whenever I do come home, it's usually around the time Rosa passes out. I'm sorry, girls" she looked down "I'm not always around to know what you're both up to" I waved my hands.
"Mom, You should focus on your career. We are old enough to take care of ourselves. We'll always have moments like this, but we are all workaholics. It runs in our blood" she smiled a little.
"I'm leaving Monday morning to work out of the city" she announced.
"You're traveling again?" Hilda asked "Its been a long time since you've traveled. Hasn't it been a few months since then?"
"Yeah, but due to the criminal activity going on lately, many Pokémon centers need more help" Hilda looked down and later stood up.
"Hilda..." I frowned at her.
"After taking care of them two years ago... They dare to make a comeback" she glared "I heard about it before, but I get angry every time I'm reminded of it. I wish I can take care of it again, but I have a job and my Pokémon are out of practice. They can't battle like they use to..."
"What about your fiancé? What has he said about it?" Mom asked. Hilda sighed and went to the window to lift up the curtains.
"It's better if he's not involved. He's still traveling oversees for his company" I shakily stood up.
"Big brother got the promotion!?" I gasped, delighted "That's great! He's his own boss now!" My soon to be brother in law use to be the king of his organization that hired people to steal Pokémon and liberate them. They were criminals, and my brother in law was only a puppet to them. I'm glad that my big sister took care of those criminals and fell in love with him! He's really sweet and didn't deserve such a betrayal. I wish I was as confident as my sister.
"It is" Hilda smiled "I don't want to tell him what's going on here, or he'll get worried and try to come back home when there's so much to be done in his own company. I hope there will be a trainer out there that can take care of it" I thought of Nate and how capable he is to do the job since he's so good at battling when I watch him from my window in the classroom.
"So you're leaving to help those people who's Pokémon got injured?" I asked mom. She nodded "If it's the same people, why would they hurt Pokémon if their previous goal was to take them away from bad trainers"
"That was N's hope in the organization" Hilda said "But Getsis just wanted to be the only one to use those Pokémon. I don't know what's really happening now, but they're trouble. If they ever spot me anywhere, I'm sure they won't hesitate to attack" I frowned, feeling like they somehow knew I was Hilda's sister and attack me just to do it...
"I believe you're strong enough to take care of yourself" mom said "You were the one that saved Unova before, so you can do it again if you could" Hilda leaned on her seat.
"Being an adult sucks sometimes. Work is everything. You're limited to your days off, that's why I want Rosa to live on and not be alone all the time" she looked at me "I want you to have fun while it last"
"I still have to work to help my Pokémon..." mom held my hand.
"I told you, I can handle the payment" I shook my head.
"No! It's fine! I-I can handle it! Please... Don't worry too much about me" I'm not worth it "I'll try my best, okay?" Hilda and mom let it go and started eating while I excused myself to my room, trying not to fall.
I landed on my bed and sighed, wondering to myself about what Hilda said "I can't tell her that those grunts bully me every time I get out of work. I'm not strong enough to handle it on my own, especially since they broke my ankle" I frowned.
I sat up and looked around my room, seeing how empty it was after two years of living here after so long of being away "I wish my Pokémon was here on my side already... I want to give it a life it can enjoy" I cupped my face "But with the way I am, how can I? It's like May and Hilda said... I should live a little, but how can I? I need to work to help my Pokémon" I closed my eyes for a long while before someone knocked on the door "Come in" Mom and Hilda walked in with a movie and blankets "Oh!" I scooted over to let them sit with me on the bed.
"Want to watch a movie?" Hilda winked.
"Let's spend as much time together this weekend before Hilda and I go to work" Mom smiled. I nodded and sat between them as the romantic movie played on my tv.
Mom had fallen asleep on my shoulder halfway through the movie while Hilda and I were invested in the main characters romance life! A girl of a rich family meeting a poor boy and fell in love with each other, but the family doesn't approve and had him sent away in order to keep them apart. With a mother keeping his letters from her, she became engaged with some other guy without knowing her first love was still longing for her! I'm dying of sadness!!
"That's so mean!" I cried "Why would her mom do that to her?!"
"It's all about status... That's what the big people are like!" Hilda sobbed "they're jerks!" I don't believe Dawn comes from such a strict family like the one in the movie, but I wouldn't think she would go into that situation. She's pretty much free to do whatever she wants, unlike the main character of this movie.
Dawn is always so elegant and caring. She was concerned about me the other night and I just got up and left her. I didn't like seeing that look in her eyes, watching me with sympathy because I couldn't protect myself, would make me feel so guilty. I lied about my ankle, but only explained that I was clumsy. I can't tell anyone what really happens to me on a daily basis. I have no way to defend myself, and it's just how I have to learn. Someday, I'll know how to stick up for myself and say what I want to say.
The movie was soon over and the girl never ended up with the poor guy due to him staying away when he found out he had cancer and died before she knew why he decided to leave mid way of reuniting again...
"I hate this movie..." I sniffled.
"Who asked for this?!" Hilda cried, covering her eyes "It's so brilliant, yet so heart breaking! It's not easy being a director, you know!? Letting things like that happen for the arts!" Mom woke up from Hilda's rant.
"What time is it?" She looked at the movie credits "Did I fall asleep?" I looked at the clock on the wall, seeing that it was close for me to get going to the dinner... Can I just stay home?
Hilda got up and looked through my closet "what are you doing?"
"What does it look like? I'm picking out an outfit for you to wear for the dinner!" I flinched "You have nothing here!? What gives!?"
"Rosa doesn't go out much besides go to work" Mom said for me, yawning.
"That's crazy!" Hilda exclaimed "You don't have anything?! Okay, what about this one?" She took out a short pink dress with a bow on it. Mom chuckled.
"You still have that?" I blushed "That's over 5 years old. It's not going to fit her!" Hilda groaned and took out her phone.
"Who are you calling?" She shhed me and spoke to the phone.
"Yo! Intern! Got a minute?" She yelled out in her director voice "Listen, my sister is going out tonight and she has no clothes!" She waited "Yeah! I'd like for you to hurry and offer some of your designs before you go somewhere! That shouldn't be a problem, right?" She nodded "Good! I'll send you the address! Be here soon or I'm cutting your days!" She hung up the phone and looked at us "Was that too much?"
"You asked a designer to come?" I sweat dropped "Isn't that too much..?"
"Don't worry! He lives in this city!" She typed on her phone "he'll be here soon!" Mom had went downstairs to clean everything while Hilda was downstairs to wait for whoever was coming. So much effort in so little time... Is it really that serious?
The doorbell rang after about 10 minutes of waiting. They're here already? I sat on my desk entire time, since I can't move around that much. I patiently sat here until I heard a knock on my door.
"It's me" Hilda walked in with a familiar face beside her. I blinked confused when I recognized his face. After observing the room for a moment, he looked at me staring at him and instantly freaked out.
"Brendon, this is my sister, Rosa" Hilda introduced us "She doesn't have any things in her closet and she's going to a dinner party... when?" She asked me.
"6, from what I was told" I stood up without my crunches and limped over to stand before the guest "Hi" I smiled. Brendon blushed and stood straight.
"So... You're actually going to the dinner?" I shrugged.
"With a sister who got a designer to come and help me with a outfit, how can I say no?" He looked down.
"Y-You don't think it's weird..?" I held my chin.
"Yeah, I guess it is weird that she ended up calling a classmate"
"N-No! That I ended up being the designer!" I looked at him confused "I didn't want anyone knowing I worked as a designer for Pokéstar studios..."
"What ever do you mean? If you work for my sister, I'm sure you the best of the best!" I smiled, confusing him "if you're the designer, then that means you're the one that made all those cool costumes!" I put my hands together "You're so talented! Why would I think it's weird?"
"R-Really?" He turned all red.
"Yeah! It takes a lot for someone to make such amazing costumes! Every detail is breath taking!" He chuckled and put on his eyeglasses. He wears glasses?
"Well, since you think so, I can agree" he got confident again. It seems that he was embarrassed about what he does. I can probably see why, since doing the things he does is more of a girls job in most guy's eyes "I got the perfect thing for you to wear!" He took out a suitcase and flopped it onto my bed, opening it to show a bunch of colorful material inside "Let me work my magic!" He stretched out some measuring tape "It shouldn't take long!" Hilda waved her hand and walked out.
"I can't wait to see what you come up with! If you do well, I'll give you a promotion" Hilda winked and walked out. What she said made Brendon get more excited than he already was.
"Alright!" He picked up my arms for me to lift and wrapped his tape around my waist "This should be fun! Can't wait for everyone to see how good you look in my dress!" I sweatdropped, not expecting a guy who acts like the manliest man in school to actually be a designer. I just chuckled and let him do his work, expecting great things from him.
