Chapter 21: Recipe•
Rosa's Pov
I was balling my eyes out once I translated everything the day later. The little girl I met the other day was next to me, patting my shoulder.
"Where in the world am I suppose to find a Lum berry?!" I sobbed.
"Rosa, please calm down" Adler sweat dropped.
"Graduation is almost a month away! Lum berries aren't local here!" The book I translated had many kinds of remedies that can be useful in everyday aesthetics, but the one I found useful for Victini and Kris was nearly impossible.
"It says in your notes that you need a Revival herb, heal powder, Lum Berry, Chesto berry, energy powder, and a liquified old gateau" Lenora read "It's not hard to find the rest of the ingredients, but they're not easy either. Aside from the Chesto berry, very few people make these ingredients"
"Yeah..." I sighed, sniffling "But a Lum berry... Of all things! The most powerful berry out there! The most rare and expensive, non local! It's ridiculous!" I shook my head "How will I help them now..?"
"Don't worry, I'll find someone who can help" Alder said "I know a lot of people in the region. If what you need is that simple berry to help your friends, I'll do what it takes" I got up from my seat and bowed deeply with the little girl.
"I really... really appreciate it. I'll try my best as well" I stood up, frowning at myself "I'm grateful that I found the answer, but I need it in my hands" he patted my shoulder.
"Let's get you home already. We can collect the ingredients from the old man from yesterday to keep you from having to come back again" I nodded. Lenora took back the book as I decided to just keep my notes so that the book won't be damaged in my hands.
Before I left, the little girl took my hand, frowning at me. I smiled and pet her head.
"Don't worry, I'll help you out with whatever you need. Is there a certain remedy you need?" She nodded and pointed at the specific one I needed "The remedy to heal from a modella flower that grows deep within the forest. Unknown" the drawing I drew on the page was the same flower that effected Victini.
When my sister and I were traveling around Castelia for the fun of it, we took the wrong boat when wanting to go visit a island that was close by. The boat ended up going farther than we intended to go and took us to a island called Liberty Garden... Which we didn't even have a ticket to get there!
It was an island symbolizing hope for a world where humans and Pokémon live free. So since we arrived, might as well look around. There ended up being Team Plasma grunts in their early ages before they became known, surrounding the place. That very day, my sister had wanted to become useful to the region and take care of the organization that wanted to take such an important Pokémon away from the only place it was safe in.
As she was fighting them with our mom's Pokémon, since she didn't have one at the time, my bag had moved on it's own. It was like something flew inside and decided to hide. I didn't know it at the time, but I took a mythical Pokémon home... and we stuck together ever since.
After so, we went home and moved to a new town where Hilda met her friends and started traveling. My mom and I moved to Nimbasa city after so. I had Victini on my side, so I knew I was safe to explore. Victini would always end up becoming invisible just so nobody picks on me.
We ended up in a route with a very deep forest... I wanted to see if I could catch myself a new Pokémon. Turned out, it was a big mistake...
We entered Lostlorn Forest and ended up getting lost. We were away from the trail and the trees were getting thicker and thicker... Any way we turned, it just got us more deep.
We stumbled across a wide open area with short grass and nothing around it. Not even Pokémon were around. The only thing we saw were beautiful flowers surrounded by multiple thorns.
Because I thought they were so pretty, I wanted one. For a young naive girl to want flowers right after she was crying the whole way, you would think she cared about the most important thing. But no, once I see something I like, I can't get my mind off it.
Victini volunteered to pick one for me. As I waited and watched it floating over the flower, I noticed the Pokémon hiding in the trees were looking panicked the closer Victini was getting to the flower.
Before I could say anything, Victini grabbed the flower and got dusted in pollen. She fell asleep, and I started to panic more than before. I was beyond crying and terrified.
I managed to grab my Pokémon pass all the sharp thorns that were poking me and making me bleed. All I could think about was getting out, and no matter how much I cried for help, nothing happened.
"Victini! Please! Use the last of your energy to get us out of here safely!" When I said that, a majestic Sawsbuck with pink flowers on its antlers came into my path. It showed me the way out, and that's when I discovered that people were out looking for me.
I rushed Victini to get treated, and when I told them what happened, they didn't identify with the kind of flower I was talking about. It was an unknown species which meant there was no cure...
"This flower..." I sat back down "Who ever wrote this knew about this flower..." Lenora looked at it.
"I've heard about those flowers" I snapped my head at her "Whenever a traveler travels too deep into a forest, they find these, but before they can discover what it is or even take a picture, a Pokémon comes around and burns it" burns it? "From what some people say, this flower only grows in deep forests. If they are destroyed, they will grow in minutes. Not many people dare to walk deep into forest, so not much is said about them. Those few travelers don't come back alive, and only a Pokémon will return their belongings to the open forest where people are around. There had been search parties, but the traveler was never found" I hugged myself.
"V-Victini..." if it wasn't for Victini, would I had died in that forest..?
"Rumors said that these rare flowers will be surrounded by thorns if a fire Pokémon wasn't native to the forest. Very little is said about that flower. Only researchers have ever known about it. I just happen to know a researcher who researched them, then stopped after her brother was dusted in the pollen. So far, there's no cure from what I know"
"And these pages..? How can I trust that it'll save the others..?" I hugged my folder tightly, shaking "What was this all for..? I should had known it was too easy"
"Agggg!" The little girl cried at me, tugging on my sleeve.
"What is it..?" She started crying, making sounds instead of words "You and I have the same problem... I'm not sure if this is even the cure. I'm really good at cracking codes, but anybody could had used this remedy and failed because it was the wrong one! How old is this book anyway?" Lenora smiled.
"Back when there was royalty in the region" I flinched "This book was donated by two girls who looked like royalty. They served under the king of Team Plasma" my jaw dropped "From what I was told, this book was created by an Ancient Doctor. The girl told me to not let anyone look at the book unless they look like they're desperate. That's all I can tell you" I picked up the old book from the counter and stared at the leather cover.
"They served the king... They saved N with this book" I was told before by N that where he lived and how he lived was nowhere near modernization. He never took modern medicine and only used natural remedies. The goddesses of Team Plasma only used one specific book to help him, and he was always deadly sick because of his living conditions
I looked at everyone looking at me "I understand now... You" I looked at the little girl "I'm not sure if this recipe will work for whatever you're wanting it for, but we'll test it for you first" she smiled and nodded quickly "Let's go to the spice salesman!" We left the museum after waving goodbye to Lenora "Thank you so much! I really appreciate everything you did for us!" I smiled big before leaving with the little girl holding my hand. Wait for me, Victini... Kris...
Lenora's Pov
I watched Rosa and her friends leave the museum after I explained that the book was created in ancient times by a doctor. I don't really know if that's true or not, but I'm glad I was able to help.
"Did she take the notes?" Anthea asked while sitting on a chair upstairs with her sister, Concordia.
"Yes, she did" I said. Concordia smiled and sipped her tea "she's very happy now that she got the answer she wanted"
"That's good" Concordia said "We knew she needed it. That's why we ask you to help us help her" when they first appeared out of nowhere with their psychic Pokémon that can see the future, they explained to me what was going to happen before Rosa came about a month later. I was amazed what those girls told me was true. I told Rosa every detail these girls told me, and even told her of the scientist that never existed, just to help Rosa be better convinced to take the notes.
"This was for her sake" Anthea's Pokémon levitated the old book to her hands "This book is very old, so we trusted someone else to use the remedies when she needed them. Now that our lord N is older and healthier, we don't need this book of ancient times anymore" Anthea closed her eyes "But we can't let it be kept somewhere we don't trust. Forgive me for saying this, Lenora" I shook my head.
"I completely understand that you want to protect such a precious book"
"Rosa will need the remedies to be able to continue her life. She will not get another Pokémon until she gets back the one that's ill" Concordia said.
"If you knew about the remedy, why couldn't you help?" I asked.
"This is Rosa's choice. She'll help the people she care about even if it means she'll get herself hurt. This will satisfy her. That's all that matters" Concordia stared at her cup.
"Thank you for telling her the stories we told you about" Anthea smiled. The stories I told Rosa about the travelers going deep into the forest wasn't recent. This happened long before records were documented. The book those girls have in their hands was the very first book ever made in the Unova region, and they will protect it "She's going to be fine now"
"But the recipe that she needs requires her to use a Lum Berry. They are extremely rare" I frowned.
"We are aware... after all. Every ingredient in this book requires a Lum Berry. We know the perfect place to pick them" the girls smiled at each other "Your job is done now. Thank you for taking care of this book. We shall take it back and store it for the next time it's needed. We'll know when" I bowed to them.
"Thank you so much for everything. I'm glad I was able to help Hilda's little sister"
"We're glad we are able to help Lord N's sister in law" the girls smiled one last time before disappearing with their Pokémon. I sighed and looked back at the desk Rosa had been studying on. The girls didn't make the task easy... but Rosa still took up the challenge. What an admirable girl... She takes from her sister so much. I'm so happy I was able to help.
???'s Pov
The girl named Rosa was certainly someone I can depend on. More or less, she's very admirable and trustworthy. I didn't know it at first, but seeing the look of her eyes and the sound of her voice made me know I made the right decision to follow her.
She wasn't stupid. She's very good with her eyes and looked pass the illusion I placed on the forest to keep intruders out. The only way people could get pass the forest was by vehicle. Anyone who dares to come by foot will not take a step closer.
I watched Rosa staring at a box with weird scribbles for a long time while writing something on some paper. She asked me time and time again to look for something for her. In order to not blow my cover, I rushed off and looked at any books that didn't all have the same words on it and gave it to her. It turned out that I was giving her books that held other languages of other regions. I wasn't much help, but I was determined even if I didn't know what these people said most of the time.
When the moon had awakened, she didn't stop working. These other person she was with, with the big hair that you can nest in, was with her the entire time and was more useful with the other person than I was! I wasn't useful at all, but Rosa always smiled for me even when I give her the wrong books...
The moon stayed in the sky, and even when the building was closed, the Lenora person let me and Rosa stay overnight while the adults left to sleep. Rosa never slept. Her eyes were wide open and focused. From the moment I saw her in that forest... I knew someone as clever as she was could help me. I just never expected her to be so kind...
When it came to the last word that was translated, she broke down and started crying. I didn't know what to do but panic. The Alder guy was reading up on the last page that she just finished and said the name of the recipe.
The rest of the words from the book wasn't as easy to see, and it was that particular page she was interested in. Every book had at least one ingredient that was the same like the rest. It required a Lum Berry. I don't know much about the names of Berries, but it sounds delicious!
I didn't want her to give up! But I wasn't able to speak in her language! All I could do was make noises and beg her to not give up. There was a page that I needed her to help me on! Turned out that the page she was needing and the one I was needing gave treatment from the same flower.
"This page with the Modella flower says that it can paralyze you permanently if eaten" Rosa said when we arrived at the tent that had all the nasty smells everywhere in large containers "My page says when the pollen is brushed onto your face and inhaled, it causes comas" I see!
"Did you not read that when you were translating the book?" Alder asked.
"I was more focused on putting the words together instead of reading the sentences. I read them, but only to see if they were correct. I'm just starting to understand what I'm seeing" Rosa looked at other pages "It seems that the things we need are in this tent here, but we're still missing a Lum Berry"
"Lum Berry?" The man behind the counter asked "We don't have those around Unova" Rosa sighed.
"I'm aware..." A Lum Berry... If I was given a demonstration, I'll probably recognize it! "For now, I like these ingredients gathered" Rosa gave the man the list she wrote down "I need three of everything. " She looked at me. All I could do was nod, grateful she's helping me.
"Yes ma'am!" The man started putting the ingredients in a container and giving it to her one at a time. She placed one Chesto Berry in each of two bags she asked for. My order was being placed at the moment "here you go" The man gave me the last container. I quickly took it and hugged it. Finally... I can help my papa get better...
"It probably won't do any good without the Lum Berry" Rosa frowned. I looked at my container and frowned. That's right... I got too excited that I almost forgot... "Don't worry, we'll find it eventually" Rosa pet my head. I started to cry. She set down our things to hug me "It's okay. I'll help you... We're in this together" I couldn't keep my form together any longer. My emotions were pouring out my eyes. My illusion lost its effect and my smaller body was held in her arms. She looked down at me. Not even seeming surprised. She just hugged me again and assured me everything was going to be alright...
