Chapter 20: Library•

Serena's Pov

I released Nate's shirt after what he told me. I stared into his dull expression looking at mine relaxing after taking in the fact "So that's how it is" I chuckled "Your heart drives you to forget what your mind came up for you. So afraid of those who talk, but your heart had bigger plans. It drove you to follow Ethan, and you showed him the exact same feeling you felt when he hurt the one you cared about. After seeing and understanding, he stopped hurting girls. Is that it?" He just nodded.

"Fascinating!" I opened my arms "I love hearing more and more about the things that drive people to do the unthinkable! I knew it was a risk, but that is why I asked Rosa to join us at dinner! Sorry if I hurt you" he looked away "Your heart is leading now, isn't it?" He looked back at me "Are you going to follow it? You didn't seem to care about what Ethan did. Is your heart strong enough to overcome what you made up in your mind and take action of what your heart has desperately wanted?" I walked over to the window to look out and continued talking.

"Rosa has always been interesting to me. From first sight, you would think she was nervous and defenseless, but that isn't it at all. She's strong, she's helpful, she's jolly, but keeps herself away from other people. That, I still don't really know why, but I have a theory" I shrugged "Don't you think you have to make it up to her?"

"Huh?" He looked confused.

"For the thoughts that go through your mind, don't you ever think that what you did impacted her decisions? On the reason why she doesn't want friends?" He looked down "Dawn told you then and there. Rosa doesn't hate you. She's forgiving. She gets..." I don't want to say too much for her. If they talk together, they have to explain to each other what they've been thinking "So what if you called her stupid? I call Calem stupid all the time" I chuckled "he calls me stupid as well. Sure, I would want to snap his wrist when he says that, but no. I love him too much" I daydreamed about my wedding with Calem "Calem looks like a nerd sometimes, but if he can handle someone like me, you know he's strong! Just like Rosa! If she can handle Ethan, she can handle anything you have to say" he bit his lips and started shaking.

"Can it really be that simple?"

"So simple!" I laughed "So simple that you're going to want to shoot yourself in the head for overthinking everything!" I pointed at his face "Listen to your heart again. Don't hit anyone, but listen to it lead you to the right path. You spend so much time making sure people are happy, but what about you?" I hid my hands behind me, smiling at him shaking even more "When are you going to be happy?"

"I knew I can never be happy again. Not after what I did to her"

"Well, I might not know what you did, but instead of talking to her about something off the subject, tell her how you feel" I smirked "Hearing what she has to say will bring some weight off your heart. I know it will" he looked down.

"Can you get out my house?" I laughed.

"Sure!" I turned my back on him "but only if you promise me"

"Why would I promise you? You'll make things worse. You always make things worse" I held my chest.

"I'm hurt!" I teased "Well, what do you have to lose? One point I can come across... When you spoke to her, or when she even yelled at you, did she look like she hated you?" He gasped a little. I smirked, thinking I got him a little. A little is enough. The little things our friends threw at him is enough... Everything I said was enough. I won't let this go any further... I won't let my friends keep those worried looks on their faces... I won't let Rosa walk away from everything... and I won't let Nate ruin his life.

I walked out the house before taking a deep breath and looked up at the house that was in front of Nate's house. Dawn told me that this was Rosa's house... When told, I was warned to not sneak in, but no one was around, so I looked both left and right before aiming to sneak into the house when no one was watching.

"What do you think you're doing?" I stopped when seeing Calem walk up to me.

"Calem!" I jumped into his arms "I missed you!"

"If you miss me so quickly you wouldn't have ditched me when we were in the middle of our search" I put my hands together and bowed.

"I'm sorry, my darling! I had to go to the bathroom!"

"You can save it. I know when you lie" I whined "What were you doing?"

"Nothing!" I raised my hands.

"Let me guess. You snuck into one of these houses, didn't you?" My jaw dropped.

"I did no such thing!" He narrowed his eyes "W-Well... I did sneak into Nate's house..." he rolled his eyes "He was there, so it's fine!"

"Doesn't change the fact that you broke and entered someone's-"

"I didn't break anything"

"Still. You are lucky Nate is our friend, otherwise you'll get in big trouble" I played with his hair.

"But I know you'll be there to help me, yah?" He rolled his eyes again and walked away "Calem!" I whined and hugged his arm, following him wherever he was going "I'm sorry! Don't be mad!"

"I understand that you're wanting to help, but you have to remember that things come with consequences. You can't just do something and expect it to be okay"

"I told Nate some useful advice" he stopped and looked at me.

"Your way of handling things is way different than mine. I hope what you said was carefully thought through" he shook his head "But knowing you, you throw anything in the fire" I hummed amused "Serena, don't you know that people with mental illnesses are difficult to help. It requires you to be extra cautious of what you tell them or the situation will become worse" I tapped my chin, confused.

"Mental illness?"

"What? Did you not know Nate had anxiety and depression? I thought it would be obvious"

"Well, it is, but can't it be fixed once we get him and Rosa together? Will talking things out help them?"

"Sure, maybe a little. It'll depend on how they respond to the change. How many times do we have to talk about this?" he knocked on my forehead "I'm afraid you also have some sort of mental problems" I smiled big "For all we know, Nate will still be overly cautious of how people think of him and that may still effect him even when he's with Rosa again. I can't speak for Rosa. I can't even speak for Nate, but you have to be extra careful when you deal with people who went through a lot" he took my head and pressed his forehead on mine "I know what you witnessed as a kid made you like this. I wouldn't dare mention it" I looked down "People don't change overnight, so of course it's difficult to handle Nate" he sighed "It's even as difficult to handle Ethan"

"Does Ethan have a mental illness?" He let go of me and rubbed his head.

"I can't label people just like that. I'm just setting examples. Nate might not even have a illness, but it doesn't mean you can't not be careful with your words and how you use them" I nodded.

"Right" I looked up at Rosa's house "But we know almost nothing about Rosa. If we entered her place, I'm sure we can find something"

"That's out of the question" I rolled my eyes and followed him to our dorms. Because the sun was still up, I was allowed to hang out in his place for awhile. I laid on his bed while he took out his phone to call his parents. Since he was busy, I grabbed a book he had on his counter.

"Book of healing?" I read the title, opening it to read.

"Yes. I love you too. Serena said hi" Calem said on his phone before hanging up. I ignored him and felt him sit next to me.

"Must be nice to have parents" I said randomly.

"Sorry" I always say this after he calls his parents, which is at least once a week. He doesn't get tired of apologizing, so he says it every time I say it.

"Why do you have this?" I asked.

"It was a book Rosa dropped behind awhile back in class. I should probably return it to her" I swiped through each page and spotted something falling out "huh?" I picked up what looked like a bookmark that looked a lot like the one Calem gave back Nate, but this one had a different Pokémon on it.

"What's this Pokémon?" I asked. Calem put on his glasses to observe.

"I haven't read up on it much, but I believe it's a Volcarona. It's a fire and bug type" I smiled.

"Do you think this belongs to Rosa? Since Nate has one similar to it?"

"The art styles are different, but even I can see that is Nate's art style" I laughed.

"He's not very good" I stared at the drawing before turning it around, surprised to see what I saw. Calem saw it last second before I jumped up to look at it by myself.

"What are you doing? Serena, let me see that!" He jumped at me. I laughed and escaped his grasps over and over until he tackled me to the bed "gotcha!" We laughed together. I gave up the bookmark and gave it to him "Lets see now" he sat up and took his time "What terrible handwriting"

"Isn't it?" I laid my head on his shoulder.

"I'm not much of an artist, but with you, I'm able to paint my world as colorful as a rainbow" he read. I giggled.

"Awe! Cute! Baby Nate wrote that?"

"Well, his A's still look the same" Calem went quiet.

"Calem?"

"I really wonder how close they were. If I just knew... I could understand why he's the way he is... Almost every smile is so fake... It's rare to see the real him" I looked at him thinking to himself "How annoying" I put the bookmark back in the book and went back to lay on his shoulder while taking his hand.

"I can remember that day back home when I stopped smiling... You brought the light back in my life. Because you did that, I always drive to find those in need and make them smile like we do. I want Nate and Rosa to smile together. Is that too much to ask?" Calem nodded.

"Things are bad for people and the other person might not see it as bad themselves. People have their preferences and their own way to deal with their emotions. You should understand more than anyone" I nodded and looked at our hands locked together, wondering what Rosa was doing at the moment. Rosa...

Rosa's Pov

The next day came around and I couldn't wait any longer. I left a note on Alders door, telling him that I'll be on my way through the city with Stoutland so I can go to the library bright and early just to pick up some hours.

I had to ask for the weekend off work to be able to do this. I'm not proud of it, since I'll be losing money, but I'll risk it all just to help those I want to help. There's no way I'll be stopping before I start, so I'm starting early!

"Let's go, Stoutland!" I yelled as we ran through the quiet streets at dawn. It was so much more different than how it was last night.

We made it to the museum very quickly. I hopped off Stoutland after seeing that the museum was open so early in the morning "Thanks buddy, I'll take it from here" I returned him and walked towards the large historic looking building.

My bag was suddenly pulled on. I held my guard and turned around with the Pokéball. Nobody was there "huh?" I looked back at the building and saw a little girl with piecing blue eyes and black hair staring at me. I walked forward. When I did, she ran in. Who is that?

Ignoring it, I entered the museum and was astonished of what I was looking at! "Wow!" I gasped. I couldn't believe my eyes "Everything here so is amazing! And there's a library here too!?"

"My!" A woman's voice laughed "I never thought to see someone so young come here so early!" I looked up the stairs to see a woman looking at me from a railing. I quickly faced her and bowed.

"Hello! My name is Rosa!" The woman laughed again.

"Nice to meetcha! I'm Lenora. I'm the owner of this here building with my husband!" She walked down the steps "and who's the little one behind you?"

"Little one?" I lifted my arm, spotting the same girl from earlier hiding behind me "Oh... I'm not sure" she didn't speak, just stayed behind me like she was hiding from the world and I was her protector "Are you okay?" She just nodded and hid further behind me. Strange...

"Well then" Lenora held her hip "What brings you here so early? Just looking around? Feel free to" I nodded.

"I wanted to see your library. Is it as big as Cheren described it?"

"Ah! So you know Cheren!" I nodded.

"Yes! He told me to talk to you here. I'm happy to have met you so soon" I bowed to her. The little girl standing beside me a little bowed as well. Hm.. "Cheren is my teacher! And I'm sure you know Hilda? She's my big sister!"

"Would you look at that! It feels like just yesterday we battled together in a gym battle!"

"You're a gym leader?"

"I'm retired, but I loved the experience. Now I live my days quiet and loving my work"

"That's wonderful to hear. I'm glad you gave my sister a great experience" Lenora chuckled and pet my head, confusing me.

"Just as I remembered. Your sister always talked about you while she was here for the first time with her friends. She expected you would love a place like this, and as soon as you walked in, she suspected correct" I giggled, blushing.

"I just like to see new things! Everything here is fascinating"

"Shall I take you the the library?" I bowed.

"Please do!" She nodded and walked back upstairs. I followed her and noticing the little girl following me "You're going to follow me?" She just looked at me and then looked straight ahead "You're quite adorable" she just blushed.

We finally made it to the largest library I've ever seen! It can't compare to the one in school! "Wow!" I almost screamed "This is amazing!" I threw my arms in the air. Lenora laughed.

"Glad you like it! This place is so big that there's a underground storage for older books. Is there anything I can help you find?"

"I need every book that has to do with old medical remedies" I went straight forward. As much as I want to look at every book and spend my time with them, I have to work fast "I'm in a hurry"

"Every old medical remedies?" Lenora held her chin "If they're old, they should be in the basement. Probably should had started with that" she took me down to the basement and presented a bunch of older looking spines of books.

"I don't have much of those, but this is what I have" the amount here in the basement doesn't compare even close to the books that are in school "Is there something that made you need these books?" She asked me.

"I'm in desperate need to help someone! I've been waiting for a long time to come here so I can help them! Unfortunately I'm still in school, so I'm not allowed to come here without an adult! Before you ask, my adult is still asleep in the hotel. I had to come here first thing in the morning!" She nodded and grabbed a ladder before using it to pick up a book that was on the highest shelf. She jumped off from a high story and handed it to me.

"The title is easy to read, but because these are old, the Unova language isn't as clear as it is today, but here" I took the book and removed the dust from the cover "One of the oldest books here. It was donated to us by two beautiful girls that was pretty enough to look like goddesses from the way they dressed" I gasped and narrowed my eyes to see the old title on the book.

"This is..." the little girl pulled on my hand to see the book for herself and pointed at it with glittering and happy eyes "Hm?" I looked at the book again. I wasn't sure this was right, but I started putting two and two together.

"I think... This is what I'm looking for" I carefully opened the book, seeing such different language than I was use to "Are old books allowed to be checked out?" Lenora smiled.

"Unfortunately, it can't be taken out the library"

"I figured..." We went back to the larger library to research the old language those sisters I met in that illusion could read perfectly "Why did the owner of this book donate it?"

"There's no space in the area they're staying. They use to be part of Team Plasma" my jaw dropped "But then again, they weren't. It's not my story" I nodded and looked back at the book.

"Thank you for your honesty" I continued researching the old language with the little girl on my side, watching me with desperation in her eyes. What ever reason she's has to be with me, there must be something in this book that she thinks will help her. If she needs my help as well, I'll be willing to if she helps me.

"Not all the answers are on the Internet, believe it or not" I told her "If you can help me find some books that had to do with studying language, I'll highly appreciate it. It'll make the process go by faster" she quickly nodded and stormed off. I smiled and continued my research. Come on... I may be so close. I got lucky enough to find this book here instead of this castle I saw before where the girls where. This may be a good sign... It seems that Victini's ability is still with me. I'm hoping I'm staying in the right track.
