Quiet Nights And Quiet Love (Jercy)
Short and sweet one.
Jason was exhausted from his two classes and proceeding eight-hour shift, and all he wanted was to go home and spend time with his boyfriend. He opened their unlocked apartment door, mentally scolding Percy for constantly forgetting to lock it, and set his bag by the entrance. They'd been living together there since Jason started graduate school in the fall, and Percy was still on the search for an actual job three months later in November. Despite Percy's optimism and determination, Jason saw the tired look in his favorite green eyes more than he would've liked.
He glanced around, surprised the lights were still on since Jason had warned Percy he'd be late. His confusion vanished when he peeked around the corner and saw Percy passed out at the kitchen table with his head in his arms and his laptop's light reflecting off his dark hair. Jason smiled, setting the rest of his belongings in their rightful spots before making his way over to Percy.
Cautiously, he dragged the laptop out from under Percy's arm, making sure to save whatever he had been working on—it looked like another job application—before shutting it down and plugging it in on the kitchen counter.
His next task was much more difficult, but he hated to ruin the rest that Percy rarely got. The boy was a total insomniac, putting it lightly. Jason would occasionally wake up in the middle of the night, and Percy was always, without fail, wandering around the apartment. It was a good thing Jason was a rather heavy sleeper, or else his restless boyfriend would wake him up every half hour. At least Percy usually spent his odd waking hours being productive, cleaning (the only time Percy cleaned anything, frankly), or very quietly baking. The two had more baked goods than they knew what to do with most of the time.
With as much gentleness as Jason could muster, he slipped an arm under Percy's legs and his other around his back in a sad attempt to lift the boy out of the chair. No matter how much he wanted Percy to sleep, Jason refused to let him do so on their kitchen table. That had to be horribly uncomfortable.
Somehow, Jason managed to secure his sleeping partner in his arms, freezing up when he felt Percy shift around. When they both stopped moving, Jason sighed in relief and carried him to their room. He may or may not have fist pumped when he got Percy actually in bed. After removing Percy's shoes, Jason had to abandon him for a few moments to get himself ready to join. If Percy wasn't awake, then Jason saw no point in sitting around their apartment alone. He might as well just catch the extra sleep.
He'd only gotten far enough to pull his pajama shirt halfway down when he heard their bedsheets rustling and a quiet, "Jason?"
"Yeah, Perce?" Jason responded quietly, part of him hoping Percy would just fall back asleep on accident. He tossed his work clothes into the hamper in the corner before turning to Percy expectantly.
"When did you get home?" Percy looked at him with half-lidded eyes. He looked a tad confused, but Jason assumed it was because he didn't fall asleep in the same environment he now occupied.
"Just a few minutes ago," Jason answered, making his way towards the bathroom. "I'll be right back, and then we can go to sleep, alright?"
Percy nodded, grabbing at the blankets gathered around his legs. Jason couldn't help but smile—Percy was almost like a child when he was tired like this.
Quickly, Jason finished the rest of his nightly routine before returning to Percy. Peeking through one eye, Percy turned towards Jason's side of the bed and opened his arms for the blond. With no protests of his own, Jason climbed in next to him and graciously accepted the boy's warmth as Percy clung to his side.
"How was work?" Percy whispered as if his battery wasn't already on one percent.
Jason shook his head, carefully stroking Percy's hair to coerce him back to sleep. "Goodnight, Percy."
"But I want to hear about your day," complained Percy as he leaned into Jason's touch.
"And I want you to get some rest," Jason shut him down, "okay?"
He could hear Percy sigh at his side and had to resist the urge to laugh. The room fell silent, and Jason decided to accept that as his victory for now. Jason felt Percy's fingers tapping against his side, something the boy tended to do when he was trying to fall asleep. He claimed the counting made him tired.
"Hey, Jase," Percy mumbled a few minutes later, very much so disturbing the peace, "I love you."
Placing a soft kiss on Percy's forehead, Jason nodded. "I love you, too."
Content, Percy smiled and finally closed his eyes. Jason felt a wave of both accomplishment and relief flow over him when Percy's breathing evened out and his mouth fell slightly open. He should've listened to Annabeth when she told him the boy drooled after they'd made things official. It was weird to think that was a little more than five years ago.
Jason still adored his stupid boyfriend, even half a decade later. He glanced at the nightstand right next to him and smiled—Jason had stored a ring in the bottom of his top drawer a month ago and was just waiting for the best time to use it. Percy had probably caught on, considering the fact that Jason had been seconds away from proposing on three separate occasions already, but thankfully he hadn't mentioned it yet.
Still, Jason knew it was waiting there, and every time he looked down to see Percy, he was reminded exactly why.
The love of his life, insomnia and general chaos included, was right next to him.
And that was all Jason could ask for, really.
