Song for this chapter:
Blame ~ Calvin Harris ft John Newman
_______________

It had been a week since Jade had gone to that doctors appointment. After she had woken up from her little nap she and Jake had a very long conversation and at the end she still didn't tell him who the baby's father was but instead agreed that he would take her to the hospital for a checkup. The doctor had told her that she was indeed three weeks pregnant and had given her prenatal vitamins to take.

Now she was back at work. Her morning sickness had lessened slightly, every now and then she felt nauseous but it was nothing she couldn't handle. Plus she wouldn't feel right if she just stayed home not doing anything when she felt okay enough to go to work.

She wasn't really showing yet so she decided to wear one of her regular work outfits, a white dress with black and grey stripes on the side along with a beige coloured jacket and matching heels.

As she was sitting at her desk mulling over her thoughts her assistant, Monica walked in. Monica was a white girl with mousy brown hair. She was a little younger than Jade and she had hired her because nobody else wanted to hire a shy antisocial girl who was straight out of college, a rooky nonetheless. But Jade, not really knowing what it was saw something in Monica that no one else could or did. And even to this day there was no harder worker at the firm than Monica.

"Hey Monica."

"Hey Miss Beckford." And that was the other thing. Even though Monica had been working at the firm for the past two years she had never called Jade by her first name, no matter how much Jade insisted that she did.

"You're 1 o'clock appointment is here."

"Okay, send him in Monica." Jade straightened some papers on her desk and took out the case file for her client.

Melvin LaBranch III. She had met him before she had decided to take his case and overall he was a nice guy. Three kids, a wife and a brother was what was listed on his file and if the way he had talked about his family when they first met was anything to go by she could definitely say he was actually a good guy.

But right now, ready through everything in his file she couldn't believe he had made such a slip up, and for something that was way simple too.

She heard a knock on her door and Monica stepped in with Melvin following right behind her. Monica showed him the rest of the wat in then left.

Standing to greet him Jade stretched her hand across her desk.

"It's nice to meet you again Mr. LaBranch, have a seat." He gripped her hand in a smooth and firm handshake then upon releasing her hand he sat down.

"Likewise Miss Beckford."

"Only wished it waa on different terms, don't you think?"

"Yea, I agree."

"So, let's get down to business shall we."

They spent the next hour going over his case. He had forgotten to pay a great amount of parking tickets that he had received and now he was facing jail time. Now it was her job to find a way to either lessen his sentence or keep him out of jail with maybe just a suspension of his license or community service.

Rapping up the meeting, they finally arrived at a conclusion and he stood to go.

"So I'll see in court Mr. LaBranch."

"You sure will Miss Beckford. And please, call me Melvin, Mr. LaBranch makes me sound old."

"Only if you call me Jade." Shaking hands again they both smiled at each other.

"Okay then Jade."

He turned his back on her but as soon as he did she started to feel a little dizzy. Resting a hand on her belly she slowly began to rub small circles across it. She drew her brows together in concentration, trying to force the dizziness away.

Melvin opened the door to leave but turned around to thank her again but when he saw the look of discomfort on her face he stepped back into the room.

"Are you okay Jade?" She lifted her head gave him a smile but it didn't quite reach her eyes.

"I'm fine. Just a little dizzy spell, that's all." She moved to get around the desk thinking it was best if she went to the bathroom in case she decided she wanted to throw up but when a wave of both nausea and dizziness hit her causing to sway she knew it was too late.

Melvin rushed to her side after seeing that she was indeed not fine. He grabbed her by the arm and placed one hand around her waist and eased her down into her chair. He watched her as she struggled to breath.

"You are not fine, I should go and get some help."

"No!" She exclaimed while grabbing on to his hand.

"Please no." Jade who hadn't taken her hand off her belly began to mumble things to it while Melvin looked on.

"Come on baby, don't do this to mommy now." She rubbed her belly soothingly. Taking in deep breaths the feelings started to pass and she was able to relax in her seat and realizing the death grip she had on Melvin's hand she quickly let go.

"Umm, sorry about that."

"It's okay, but let me ask you something, you're pregnant ain't ya?"

Jade didn't answer but she gave him a sheepish grin telling him he was exactly correct.

"Yea, I shoulda noticed from the way you kept holding your stomach most of the time throughout the meeting."

"I was?" He nodded in response.

"I wasn't aware I was even doing that."

"Most pregnant women aren't, it's like a sixth sense that you women don't even know you have and trust when I say I've been there and seen it all."

"Yea, you've got three daughters right?"

"Yes indeed." Jade could see the love shining in his eyes as he spoke those words and she wished with everything in her heart that her baby's father could be in the picture.

"Well thank you Melvin for helping me out just now."

"Ah, it was nothing, I'm glad to help."

Jade watched as Melvin walked out the door and she couldn't help but think how lucky his wife is to have a caring husband like him.

Very short chapter, but oh well.

Things are kinda uneventful now but don't worry things will soon start to heat up.
