"Diane, are you in there?" Aly asked, knocking on the stall I had locked myself in.
I sighed. "No."
Morgan rolled her eyes. "Come out."
"No."
I heard Tania sigh. "Please, Diane. You can talk to Dally about it later. But we still have the rest of school left."
I groaned. "Morgan, wanna skip with me?"
I knew she was grinning, even though I couldn't see her. "Totally."
I opened the door. "Then let's go. Aly, Tania, you coming?"
Aly shook her head. "Uh, no, I have this test in Algebra."
I looked at Tania, and she sighed. "My dad would kill me!"
I grinned. "That's the fun part. He doesn't have to know."
Tania sighed. "Okay, fine. I'll do it."
Morgan smiled. "Great. Aly, its your time to rebel. Come with us!"
She sighed. "But what about Jack? We can't leave him all alone!"
I shrugged. "We'll take Jack with us, then."
Aly still looked hesitant. "Take him where? Where are we going?"
"We can go to Soda's house," Morgan said. "He's got the day off. The rest of the gang might be there."
Tania sighed. "But what about Diane's brother?"
I shook my head. "He's still at work. He can't take the day off if Soda is. He told me."
Morgan smiled. "So now that we have all of that sorted out, may we leave?"
I nodded. "Yep. I'll get Jack. I'll meet the rest of you outside."
Aly groaned a little bit. "Fine. I'll go. Gosh, its your first day here, and I'm already trying to impress you..."
I grinned. I walked out of the bathroom and into the cafeteria. Jack was sitting at the table alone, looking really awkward. When he saw me he smiled.
"Hi, Diane! Feeling better?"
I shrugged. "Kinda. Listen, have you ever ditched before?"
"Uh, one time I said I was sick but I wasn't," he said, innocently.
I just looked at him. "Well, we're doing it again. C'mon."
He looked at me like I was crazy. "I just met you, I'm not running away with you."
I smiled. "Not just me! Aly, Tania, and Morgan are coming. And so are you."
He sighed. "But what if we get caught?"
I rolled my eyes. "You will have zero fun in life if you worry about what's gonna happen next. Ya gotta live in the moment, or life'll suck. Please come."
He stood up. "Okay, fine. Where are we going?"
"The Curtis house," I replied as we walled out of the cafeteria. "Is there a window in the boys bathroom?"
He shook his head. "No, I don't think so."
I sighed. "Then I guess we're going out through the girls bathroom."
He gave me the most incredulous look. "I'm not hoping in there."
I smiled at him. "Please. Its the only way out."
He looked at me a little longer. "Fine. But only because you're cute."
I blushed a little as I snuck him into the girls room. Morgan climbed out first. The Tania, Aly, and Jack. I was the last out to make sure he didn't chicken. The window was kinda high, so I struggled getting out. Steve was right about my shoes. I was half way put when I saw Morgan grinning.
"You struggling there, Diane?" She teased.
I sighed, throwing my legs over the edge. "I got it." My hand slipped and I started to fall. It was only a 4 foot drop, but I was still pretty scared. I fell and the next thing I knew, I had landed on Jack and I was lying on top of him in the tall grass, our noses inches away.
He grinned. "Fancy seeing you here." His breath smelled like candy.
I laughed a little bit. "Did I crush you?"
He smiled even bigger. "Nah, you're as light as a feather."
Tania smiled. "Ooo, a budding romance."
Jack turned bright red and I hopped up. "No," I said, as I helped him up. "No romance."
Jack nodded in agreement, his face still bright red.
We started walking towards the house, Tania and Morgan leading the way.
Aly stood in the back, worrying. "I've never done this before," she said. "I really don't wanna get in trouble..."
Morgan rolled her eyes. "Since when did I start hanging put with all these goody-goodys?"
"Since the fifth grade," Tania said. "Get over it."
I smiled as we got closer to the house. I kept sneaking glances at Jack. I didn't like him, but it was obvious he was hard-core flirting. He was a cute kid. He was a bit skinny, and he was maybe half an inch shorter than me, but his eyes made up for it. They were baby blue, and were full of happiness and life. He caught me staring, so I looked away really quick. I'm so stupid...
We finally made it to the house. I walked up the steps first. Soda was sitting on the couch, arm wrestling Two-Bit. "Hi, guys!" I said.
Soda grinned, as his hand was slammed down. "Hey, Diane! Ain't you suppose to be in school?"
I nodded. "Yep. But if we could keep that from Stevie, that would be great."
He laughed. "Sure thing. Hey, have you met Steve's girl?"
I shook my head just as the others walked in.
Two-Bit smiled. "Well, you'll see her tonight. Steve said ya'll are coming over for dinner."
"First time I'm hearing about this, but okay," I said.
Soda smiled when he saw Morgan. "Hey, Baby." He went over and kissed her.
"Get a room!" Two-Bit yelled.
Morgan threw a pillow at him. "Get a life," she shot back.
Tania came in and sat on the couch, Aly right behind her. Jack stayed awkwardly by the door.
I grinned. "You can sit down, ya know."
He nodded and plopped down on the couch. Two-Bit turned to me and smiled. "Dal and Johnny are in the kitchen."
I furrowed my brow. "Don't Johnny go to school, too?"
Soda smiled. "He ain't the only one that ditch school."
I nodded, smiling, and walked off to the kitchen. Dally was leaning against the fridge, drinking a beer. Johnny had one too, but his looked untouched.
I waved at them. "Hiya."
Dally smirked. "Well, hello." He turned to Johnny. "Uh, Johnnycake? Get lost."
Johnny nodded his head. "Yeah, yeah." He hurried out, leaving his beer on the table.
Dally came closer and wrapped his arms around my waist. I pushed him off.
He gave me a weird look. "Something wrong, doll?"
I nodded. "Yes. There is."
He furrowed his brow. "Well, then, what is it, huh?"
I rolled my eyes. "Where you taking Kayla Marie tonight?"
His face softened and he seemed to smile a little. "Oh, this is about Kayla, is it? You're jealous that you ain't my only one?"
I sighed. "Your only what? What do you do think of me as, huh?"
He rolled his eyes. "A broad. A very good looking broad, at that."
"Don't you believe in one guy, one girl?" I asked.
"Do you?"
I groaned and turned around. I tried to stomp out, but he grabbed my arm. "Listen, I like you, but I can't be tied down."
I scoffed. "Believe me, you won't be." I walked pit and he followed me. Just to make him mad, I grabbed Jack's hand and dragged him out of the house, and towards mine.
