CH 1 | THE BLIND DATE
“I am ready to be your date.” The lad settled in front of me over the velvet material chair spoke, my eyeball poking out just as he completed his sentence with my petals apart, gazing at him as a few of his raven-tinctured locks were already settled over his forehead. His almond nut brown orbs were gazing at me, confirming that he wasn’t joking.
The rim of the cup touched his salmon lips as he took a sip from his coffee, with his pinky placed at the bottom of the cup. Gently, he placed the cup back on the cup plate without much noise like he has been practicing this for years.
I watched him resting his elbow over the table which was separating us as we sat across each other. Blinking my eyes at him, I shut my ajar mouth, I would be looking so dumb doing this for about the last one minute but I was astonished by all the words that reached my eardrums just now.
Gulping down a lump in my throat as he leaned forward, his gaze getting intense with each passing second, I feast my eyes over his salmon petal which advanced to speak once more, “Should I repeat myself?”
I exhaled, meeting his gaze which was throwing a glint, “Yes… I mean why?” You said, befuddlement trailing your voice, trying to stay calm, “That’s the only reason we came here, Ms. Lee.” He declared.
Mister, I also know why we both are here but didn’t he listen to what I told him before, “I know! But dating isn’t my cup of tea.” I retorted as he asked, “Then why did you come here?” I closed my mouth even before it could open. Who will tell this man that I was compelled to be here?
I looked behind him, taking my time to think of an excuse as I gazed at the girls staring at both, inevitably couldn’t shut their eyes at the man in front of me as I turned my eyes back at him who had already his eyes aimed at me, “There are so many lasses, who are head over heels for you, then why me?” I heard him sigh, leaning back on his chair before saying anything.
“I will wait for your answer, next meeting on Sunday, sharp at 8. My secretary will text you the place.” These were the words that flew out of his mouth before standing up and buttoning his suit jacket. I observed him doing so and stood up with an objection over his statement but before I could he strode past me.
I turned around to look at his broad back covered with the gunmetal material, slipping one of his hands into his pocket. What the hell is wrong with this uncooperative lad? Why does he even want to marry me as his first choice? Stubborn as a mule! I spat at his back, departing out of the grandeur restaurant.
Grandeur, my foot! Who the hell gave this restaurant a license? I could bet they haven’t listened to a name called sugar. It’s not their fault, the coffee would taste bitter when drunk with an embittered person. “My secretary will text you the place.” I mocked back imitating his last sentence.
Taking my opulence sling bag, I kicked the table in frustration, gaining everyone’s attention as the luxurious and antique piece of cup plunged down the table, “F*ck.” Cursing under my breath, I sped out of there before anyone caught me but I heard someone shouting as I gazed behind, watching one of the waiters following me, I dashed out of there.
After meeting this self-willed man, every passing minute has been atrocious for me. Opening the door, I ran out of there, “I am not going to pay for this, please spare me.” My inner conscience told me. Running in heels was making it difficult and the next moment, I plunged over someone.
Yeah, a lad.
The man stumbled over his position, I felt him gripping my waist which prevented me from falling. Without any thought, I held his sturdy physique in my arms, hindering myself behind his well-built physique. I could feel his brawny biceps with my palm, propping him before me.
Hiding my visage in his chest, hearing the waiter making his way in the opposite direction from me, I sighed in solace. Gazing up at the visage of the man, my eyes again enlarged, acknowledging the same face.
He gazed down at me with his hazy orbs as if he was waiting for me to leave him. I retreated from him, hanging my hands in a fist on either side of my flanks, Not again.
He looked at him with an apologetic as well as a phony smile but his face was like he wanted answers, what was I even trying to do? He twitched his head behind, trying to seek the one from whom I was running away.
“From whom were you escaping?” He asked looking down at me, “Actually-” I cut off my sentence when I managed to peer at the waiter behind my blind date.
I was about to abscond again when I felt his grip on my wrist. I looked at him befuddled while watching the waiter approaching us.
I looked at the man with my eyebrows furrowed, “Leave me.” I whispered to him trying to get out of his grip but all in vain, the waiter stood beside us as I heard my blind date ask, “What’s wrong?”
“Miss plunged an antique cup from the table.” The waiter elucidated as I looked, I felt both of their gazes at me, “How much?” I felt him let go of my hand as the waiter said, “Seven hundred dollars.” My eyes widened listening to the price as I looked at the waiter with my mouth open.
I watched the lad taking out his wallet and handing over a bunch of notes to the waiter, “No, why?” I protested as the lad looked at me with his brow raised, I closed my mouth.
As the waiter went out of my sight, I locked my eyes with the lad, “I will return the money.” He nodded looking above me as I squinted my eyes at him, braggart.
“Get aside.” He told me, my eyes were confused as I looked behind me, a car. To be precise, a black pitched Rolls Royce standing, I took a few steps back as I watched a caramel-haired lad opening the door for my blind date, I guess it’s his secretary. I blinked watching him get in his car.
The car steered off while I clutched a handful of my hair, vexation taking over me. “Is anything left to happen on this worst day?” A puff left my mouth with a whine, thinking back to the time when Jene compelled me to come here.
“Jene, I will kill you with my bare hand. You hellion!” I shouted, thwacking over the floor underneath me.
-------
TWO DAYS AGO
“Y/N!” I groaned in my sleep, “What?” I spoke in my sleepy tone, covering my face up in the duvet, going back to sleep. I heard the door of my room burst open waking me up as my eyes widened, “Sh*t!” Kicking the duvet off myself, I sat up on the mattress, looking at my mother with a phony smile, she is about to burst out.
“I was just waking up,” I explained as she looked at me, patting the spatula against her palm. Don't hurt your precious daughter, mom.
“I have been calling you up for fifteen minutes and you are sleeping here like a koala.” He taunted as I stood up from my bed, slipping into my slippers, “Mom, I was about to wake up.” Ambling to the bathroom earning a glare from her.
Dashing inside the bathroom, I shut the door behind me, sighing in relief, closing my eyes, “She scares the shit out of me, especially with the murderous weapons she brings every day.” I shook my head before brushing my teeth.
I was taking a shower when the light in the bathroom started flicking on its own. I gritted my teeth, “Jene, stop it!” I shouted to my childhood friend, working in her father’s company.
“Jene! F*cking stop it!” I bellowed, but she wasn’t listening. Washing off the soap, I wrapped myself in the bathrobe before filling a mug of water, I opened the door of the bathroom and threw the water over her face.
She stood there numb as her coat was damped in the water while her eyes clenched shut with her mouth wide open.
“You reap what you sow!” I commented watching her state as she let out a deep exhale, “What the f*ck?” I nodded, throwing a towel in her direction, I entered the bathroom after taking my clothes for the day.
I was donning my clothes when I heard Jene,
“Y/N…” She sang as I hummed, “Yes?” “I need your help.” I furrowed my eyebrows opening the door of the bathroom, swiftly and squinting my eyes at her, “What?” “Actually…”
FLASHBACK
“Dad, Why don’t you understand?” Jene placed her spoon on the table with a thud sound, more like slamming her hand, “I have set a date for you and you have to be there. I know what you did last time. You never reached the last one and before that, you threw a glass of water at your blind date.” Mr. Lee, Jene’s father accused her as she stood up from her dining chair, “You already know that I don’t wanna marry the one whom I barely know so why do you even set a blind date?”
Jene bellowed at her father as he sighed before standing up, “You have to be present there, that’s it.” She sighed, shaking her head at his stubborn father, “Okay, this one would be the last.” She pointed her index finger out at him as he nodded. She had some different plans in her mind.
END OF FLASHBACK
I heard Jene with all the concentration while setting my collar off the shirt as she added, “So I have planned something.” I turned back at her as I looked at her standing up from the mattress of the bed, she looked at me with pleading eyes, “What?” I backed away as she took her steps toward my physique.
I looked at me with furrowed eyebrows, confusion taking over all my face, “Y/N, You are my only hope now.” She blinked at me withholding my hands in hers.
I pushed her away while holding her shoulders, “Tell me already.” I asked as she poured it out, “Please go on a blind date instead of me.”
