Chapter 5: Chat

Enjoy!
______________________________________

I promise He lastly thought before rain started to pour from the skies.  Erwin shouted to everyone to get back in formation immediately, if they don't leave soon, then a fog will appear, making it dangerous to be outside since they can't spot titans from a far distance.

Levi rushed to his horse and got on.

"Levi bro!"

"Levi"

The voices echoed in Levi's head.  "Tsk!" He grabbed his head, over having a short headache.  I will never forget you both. Levi thought as voices were being heard in his head.

"Everyone behind me now!" Mikasa shouted to the soldiers.  Levi turned his head and looked at as she yelled.  A small smile formed in his lips.

Thank you He wanted to say, but he can do that later.  Right now they need to be in a safe location.

<<<<<<<<<<No One's POV>>>>>>>>>>

Later on, they safely made it back to the walls without carrying anymore corpse.

Sadly, many paid their respects to the brave soldiers who were killed.  That included the soldiers from the left wing, including Levi's only friends, Isabel and Farlan.

Many soldiers were crying over losing a friend or someone they cared about who were placed in the left wing.  Only one soldier made it out alive, he lived to tell the story on how he saw brutal deaths around him.

All he can do was get out there, luckily he did, making him the only survivor.  Levi did feel sad and shocked, hearing his friends died on the first day outside the walls.

They were so excited to see the blue sky, smell the fresh air, see the clouds and much more.  They did get to see it with their very own eyes, but it didn't last long.

Levi sat in a bench outside in the sun.  As he was sitting there, he felt different.  He does admit that he wanted to let out a tear, but it simply wouldn't come out.

He lost his only two friends.  He was even proud to call them friends since he didn't get along with people, and he rarely was social.

But now that they're gone, he feels alone.  But, he believes now they're in a better place.

Levi was outside sitting on a bench, close to a nearby lake. Both his elbows resting on his knees.  Memories of his friends popped up.

Many good memories he had with them, but slowly started to fade away. He had his eyes closed the entire time, trying to not forget the memories.

He saw Isabel and Farlan reaching out to him.  He slowly opened his eyes and didn't realized that his hand was reaching out for them, but it was just an illusion.  He kept a emotionless face.

He misses them.  He was alone but he feels someone might change that.  But as always, he ignores the thought since he didn't believe that someone would be a purpose for him keep on living.

His heart already knows the person who is his reason to keep living on.  But, his minds doesn't admit it.  His mind doesn't let in the thought.

Not only that, but he's also noticed something, something he'll keep in mind.

The people around him, will soon die, whether it's in the hands of the titans or something else, they will die eventually.

He must get used of seeing death.  Just like Mikasa.  She's been here more than him so she must've seen many death with her very own eyes.

Deaths that she wishes never to see, but it still happens.

Then, his thought were interrupted by hearing footsteps from behind.  He slightly turned his head.

It was Mikasa.  She was walking by. She saw Levi at the corner of her eye, but decided to keep on walking.

Levi was gonna let her leave and continue back on his thoughts, but he felt something familiar coming from her.

"Mikasa" he called, not even turning his body towards her, but instead facing the lake.

She stopped her trails and looked at him, "What?" She asked. "I just want to....." He mumbled.

"Want to what?" She couldn't hear him clearly.  She took a few steps closer.

He inhaled air and let it out slowly.  She waited.  "I just wanted to thank you..brat" he finally said.  She chuckled over the last word he said, "Well, no problem.  Sometimes you need to comfort others, to help them go forward 'ya know"

"Yeah"

"If I didn't have a heart then I would've left you there, broken"

He let out a small chuckle, "Thanks" he simply said.  She looked into the distance, "Yeah, we'll I gotta go, see you around" she said.

He slightly nodded and turned back to the lake, but then a quick flashback of a little girl appeared again in his mind.

His eyes widen. Is she? No it can't be He thought.  He tried to ignore it, wanting to forget it, but he couldn't.  "Fuck it" He stood up and shouted, "Mikasa!"

He just wanted to get it off his chest since the thought will never leave him unless it's confirmed.

She stopped again and turned her head towards the voice.

"What now?" She asked, since he's called her twice now and was getting annoyed by it.

She had very similar skin tone and hair color, but it could be a coincidence.

"Is it you?" he mumbled looking into her grey eyes.  She was confused, "huh..?"

"Something is oddly familiar....about you" He said.  That didn't help Mikasa get a clue over what's going on.

The image of the little girl appeared, now it all made sense.  "Mommy" Long black hair, blood on her lips.  Sadness filled her eyes.

His eyes grew wider.  "No way" he was truly shocked.  "If you have something to say, say it" she said.

"I do" he cleared his throat. She raised an eyebrow, "Well?..."

It took took him about a few seconds for him to speak again, "Well, you remind me of someone I saw years ago" he said.

"Who?"

"A little girl"

"A little girl?"

"Yeah, she looks sorta like you but older" he explained.  Mikasa tilted her head in confusion.

"Tell me...Do you know a place called the Underground?" He asked her.  Her blood boiled every time she heard the name Underground.  Always bad memories she had there comes to her head.

"I do, that's where we captured you" she said.  He rolled his eyes and continued, "Anyways, the little girl, she had long black hair an-" he was cut off.

"Many girls have long black hair" she said. "I know that but I saw her in the underground....She was tied up with these two older men" he explained.

"Oh no...Did you help her?" She asked him. Her question made him clench his fist.  He didn't and he deeply felt guilty.

Instead of saying anything, he hugged her.  Mikasa was really confused on why he was hugging her.  This does not seem like him at all, "Levi?"

"I'm sorry" those were the only words he can say.  "For what?" She tried releasing herself from him but couldn't.  He took a deep breath before speaking again, this time saying something that will give her a huge explanation.

"For...not helping you"

"Wha-" she stopped talking and began to have flashbacks from the past.  Of a scary and miserable time.

The memories she tried her hardest to forget, but came back for a second. She remembered her being tied up, ready to be sold to disgusting men after seeing her parents death.  She thought it would be the end for her, and that will be the way she'll be living from now on, until she saw a young man.

The young man she saw while she was being sold, he didn't really do much to help according to her memory.  Now that she thinks of it. He looks exactly like Le-.

Her eyes grew wider. No....She thought. He was the man? That I saw?  No...She thought, couldn't believe it.

"Wait....so your telling me, you were the man I saw. The one tha-" she gasp and continued, "the one, I almost ran to" she finished.

He released her and looked straight into her eyes, "I am" Then why wouldn't he saved me?  He saw that I was being sold! Why didn't he do a damn thing! "Oh, well in that case" she slapped him across the face.

He does admit he didn't expect to get slapped.  "Why the hell didn't you help me?!  I was just a little girl who was defenseless!  Why?!" She cried with tears forming in her eyes as she gritted her teeth in anger.

"I...I don't know" he said.

She raised her hand, ready to slap him again, but he caught her hand, "Before you hit me again.  Remember when you bumped into me" he said.

"Huh?" She does remember escaping from those perverts.  Lastly, she bumped into the same boy while running away.

"Sorta"

"Did the men chase you?" He questioned.  Mikasa tilted her head, "I escaped from them before they could do anything sexual to me.  But then when I bumped into you, I no longer saw them behind me or chasing me anymore.  That gave me time to come up to the surface" she explained.

"That's because I prevented them from going after you" he said, releasing her hand. "What?"

"You may not believe me but it's true. When you got up and ran, they were right at your tail.  At that moment I knew I had to do something.  I didn't want to stand there and let them go after you" he said.

"So what did you do?"

"I didn't say anything.  Apparently they've heard of me and ran away, knowing what I'm capable of.  I'm very well known in the Underground"

"Yeah, I've heard"

"What do you mean?"

"Yeah, known for doing things you aren't supposed to do.  We have received multiple calls from many citizens in the Underground.  Saying three thugs are doing things that are illegal.  So, Erwin, went to the Underground. I had to follow, and that's where we found you" she explained.

"Who called?"

"Many people, complaining.  They feared for their own safety.  So we had no choice but to come down there and capture the 3 people ourselves since the Military Police couldn't"

"Oh"

It was impossible for the Military Police to capture them.  They were too skilled and can easily escape.

"I'm sorry for slapping you.  I got carried away" Mikasa said feeling guilty for the first time. "It's fine, I deserved it" he admitted.

Without saying anything else, she hugged him, she hugged him with the feeling of appreciation, "Thank you" she whispered into his ear.

She then released him.  "So, how did you end up here?" He asked.

"That's a long story"

"I got time" he replied.

"Well, when I made it up to the surface.  I didn't know where to go, I had no family or anything.  At that point, I thought I would die. Die of starvation or get killed.  I didn't mind dying, I had nothing in this world anymore" she explained.

Before she continued, her eyes sparkled.  Her eyes seems like they've seen hope.  She did.

"Until I met Eren" she said, not even bothering holding back the smile. "Eren?" He questioned the boys name.

"You mean the guy that is a crybaby?" He teased.  She playfully rolled her eyes, "Yeah him. He saved me, and gave me hope" she explained.

"How?"

"He found me in the woods, alone, scared, fragile, broken. At first I thought he was gonna hurt me, but he didn't.  Instead, he gave me this scarf" she touched her scarf, feeling the soft cloth.  It still had his scent.

"He told me it will keep me warm, forever" she remembered his sweet, warming voice saying it will keep her warm.

"After that, what happened?  Did he left you there?" Levi asked her. He found her story interesting, but he wanted to know more.

"He took me to his home.  I met his parents.  They took me in.  I was so blessed.  I've never felt so happy in my life again, being part of a family again. And also I met Eren's friend, Armin" she stopped her words, by remembering Armin.

She holded back the pain and continued, "Years later, Eren, Armin and I joined the Scouting Legions when we were 15.  I was ranked number 1.  Best of them all.  Now I'm 20 years old and still number 1, humanity's strongest.  Well...was..until you came" she voice turned from calm to not so calm.

"I was here 5 years and you were here for a few months and now they call you humanity's strongest" she compliant.

"Not my fault.  I didn't ask to be called Humanity's Strongest" he said before she starts arguing.

She calmed down and controlled her anger, "I know"  He wanted her to keep talking, so he asked her, "So what happened to your friend, Armin?"

She choked on her words before finally saying it, "He was shot" she hold back the tears.  By the sound of her voice, her voice filled with sadness and broken.

"I'm sorry" he said. "He was one of my best friends. He was amazing. Sometimes, I wish I was there when he took his last breath"

"Then why weren't you?  Where were you?" He asked. "I had to go with Erwin to the Underground.  To capture you. If only Commander Erwin didn't make me go, I would've been there, but I wasn't" she explained.

"I'm sorry"

Silence.

Until she spoke again, "That's the past now.  It already happened.  There's nothing we can do but to move on" she said.

"And you wish it didn't" Levi told her. "I wish many things wouldn't of happen. I wish many" she said.

To be continued.........
