Chapter Eight

Sierra's POV
It had been fifteen years since the kings and queens had first come, and these years were being referred to as Narnia's Golden Age. Fifteen years of peace. I woke up to a pounding fist on my door, and I untangled myself from the blankets, pulling my tunic over my head and opening the door. Peter. My heart beat faster, and he stepped back, an apologetic look on his face.

"I'm sorry. I guess I woke you." I waved it off, gesturing for him to come in. Oh boy. I felt my face getting hot. I still felt something for him, even after so long.
"It's okay. I needed to get up anyways. What's the pounding about?" He nearly grinned at me.
"The White Stag has been spotted, and the four of us are going after it, and I know we were supposed to train today, but-" I cut him off.
"You may forget about training for today, and today only. Got it?" He nodded, getting ready to leave.
"Oh, before we go, there's something I wanted to do." I must've looked confused, because he chuckled. Then, he took a step closer, gently put his hand on my cheek, leaned forward, and kissed me. It lasted for a minute or so, and then he pulled back, very nearly bright red, and he left. I stood there for a minute, shocked. He had noticed me after all. I was just so afraid he didn't care that I.....I might've....okay, I pushed him away a couple times. Or several. I dressed, put my armour on, and headed out. After about an hour of training and two hours of making sure no one was being lazy, I heard thundering hooves. I saw four horses coming, and I recognized them. Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy's horses. And they were riderless. I heard yelling, and I approached Philip, Edmund's horse.

"What happened? Where are the Kings and Queens?" He was breathing heavily.
"Gone. They were talking about someplace called Spare Oom, and War Drobe." Tumnus scrambled over beside me, gasping. I turned to him.
"Do you know what that is, Tumnus?" He nodded, shaking.
"Yes. They've been taken back to their world." I nearly swore. Gone?! The Telmarines were coming, and they were gone! I turned to the crowd that had gathered.
"Alright, now. Listen up! We're going to do everything we can to defend Cair Paravel even without them, got it?! No one is going to take this place if I have anything to say about it." Everyone cheered, and went back to preparing Cair Paravel for the coming battle. Oerius gestured to me, and I followed him.

"Our griffins returned with the information that the Telmarines are about half a day away from Cair Paravel. They will be here by morning." I nodded.
"So, when they get here, I can-" he stopped me.
"No. You're not staying for the battle." I started at him.
"What?" He sighed heavily.
"The Telmarines are coming with more soldiers than we were expecting. Without the Kings and Queens, I'm not sure if we can defeat them. You're the only one who knows the Ballad by heart. You go, hide at the Stone Table, and survive. If you survive, the legacy of Narnia survives." I sighed heavily.
"Okay. But if Cair Paravel falls, the survivors come to the Stone Table." He nodded.
"Agreed. If you want, you can watch the battle from the sky as a bird, but don't interfere. You need to stay alive." I nodded, and headed back out. The next morning, as predicted, the Telmarines arrived. I changed into a tiny red bird, watching the battle. After two days of fighting, the Telmarines destroyed the castle, killing almost all the Narnians who fought. They went to another part of Narnia to build their own palace, and all surviving Narnians met at the Stone Table, and I had figured out what to do.

"Sierra, what do we do now?! Narnia has been overrun, and the Telmarines kill us on sight!" After a few minutes of complaints, I hollered at them.
"SILENCE!!" Everyone stopped, staring at me in shock.
"Thank you. Now yes, Cair Paravel has fallen, but we're still alive! So, here's what we do. They want Narnians to be extinct, so we make them believe that we are extinct. We hide in the woods, and we survive. They've abandoned Cair Paravel and the woods, so we make them afraid of the woods. Any Telmarines who enter the woods, you have my permission to kill them. I will protect the ruins of Cair Paravel, and I'll have a bit of fun with them. I will turn into a lion, and show myself to any Telmarine I see. They don't believe in lions, so... Now, listen. We will survive someday, maybe not in our lifetimes, but someday, our Kings and Queens will return. And when they do, the Telmarines will be defeated. Agreed?" Everyone cheered, and within two days, it was me, Tumnus, and the beavers heading back to Cair Paravel. We took about three days, burying every Narnian that had fallen in battle, and we burned the Telmarines bodies. After that, life was decent. I drove many Telmarines insane (literally) by turning into a lion, the beavers had baby beavers, and after about forty years, Tumnus and the beavers died. Then, the beavers' kids left for other woods, and I was alone. Time passed, and I did other things. I also added to the Ballad, and waited, traveling all over Narnia every couple years, singing the Ballad, and other things. The only things that didn't change were my age, and I never lost my hope. I knew someday Aslan would allow them to come back, but until then, I would wait. And so, I waited 1,400 years, and then, the impossible happened.
