Prologue

"Long ago, a great battle was fought between the many rescue teams of the land, and an evil Pokemon that called itself 'Darkrai.' Darkrai planned to cover the entire world in darkness, allowing him to take over the entirety of the universe, with no one able to stop it... However, one rescue team survived the battles against Darkrai's evil forces, and, against all odds, prepared to confront and defeat the demon, itself...

*Flashback to Ten Years Ago*

*???'s POV*

"Lucario, it is time! I have finally tracked Darkrai to a place known as the 'Field of Darkness.' It is here that we must confront Darkrai!"

Seeing the twinge of nervousness in my partner's eyes made me curious,

"Lucario, is something the matter? I'm sure we will succeed!"

"Blade," Lucario looked straight at me with his stone cold gaze,

"I'm not worried about my own life... I fret more for the lives of those I care about, like you and my family. To cement that obligation to my heart, I must ask that you stay here- I do not want you getting hurt out there, or worse..."

"Lucario!..." I interrupted him, knowing that a solo mission of this magnitude would be a suicide mission, even for a high-ranked explorer like him,

"You can't... Darkrai is in a completely different league- it would be a meaningless sacrifice to make!" My tone deepened to a growl- I was determined not to let my lifetime partner dig his own grave,

"Even with the both of us, we would need to be careful... Come on, Lucario!" I half-pleaded, half-scolded him.

"Blade, I don't know what I would do with myself if you died out there..."

"As would I, if you died!" I interrupted him quickly.

"Blade... You simply must stay here!" Lucario's eyes glowed blue, and he channeled his Aura to form a cage around me.

"If I fall in battle, I want you to take care of my son for me- he's the only part of my family that I still have... Please!" Lucario commanded me, and, I watched, in horror, as the Pokemon ran off into the forest,

And directly to his untimely death, if I don't do something!...

Immediately, I tried simply clawing at the cage, but all my attacks seemed to harmlessly bounce off the blue fluid.

Lucario... I started to lose hope that I'd ever see him again, until I remembered,

His son! That's it! But where would I find...

"What is that?" Someone had noticed my cage, and I adopted a fighting stance, until I realized who it was...

"That's really pretty- did you make it?" a young Risk asked me.

"Wait a second, you're Blade! Daddy told me all about your explorations with him...You must be really strong!" he added.

"Can I touch the bright blue box?" Risk asked, and, before I could tell him otherwise, the Riolu placed his palm on my cage, and the Aura seeped into his skin. However, by the time I was free, I was already out cold, due to the debilitating effect Lucario had placed on my cage...

*Young Risk's POV*

"Blade?!" I walked over to the Absol and tried to rouse him.

...

Nothing? But he still has an Aura, so at least he isn't dead! At least, I think that's how Aura works... My thoughts were interrupted by a loud, booming voice from not too far away,

"Ahahaha! It is foolish to oppose me! Lucario, you will not stop me!" Following that declaration, I heard a loud explosion, and a cry from my father. Instantly, I sprinted past Blade's unconscious body towards the sound of my father...

However, when I first glimpsed the scene, I saw my father, standing over a completely-black Pokemon, aiming an Aura Sphere straight at it. Instinctively, I hid myself behind a few trees, so as not to be seen.

"Darkrai, this battle ends now!" Lucario yelled, as he let the Aura Sphere pierce Darkrai, and a bright light enveloped us all...

When I opened my eyes, Lucario was standing there, looking at Darkrai's motionless body.

"There, its Aura is finally beginning to fade... Darkrai is gone, and the war is won!" Then, a ball of ghostly energy slammed into Lucario, knocking him to the ground,

"Kekekek! Yes, you're right, Lucario!" the mysterious voice laughed,

"This battle is over, but the next chapter of the war is just beginning! You shall be the first casualty!" Gengar readied an orange sphere in one of its hands, and Lucario was almost hit by the blast. Narrowly dodging the attack, he watched, as the ground where he had been was destroyed.

I could feel Lucario's Aura become increasingly distressed, and I assume that he had noticed me and was worried, sick, about me. As he dodged attack after attack from the Gengar, I could see his movements become slower and slower, until Gengar finally caught him off-guard with a shadowy punch, as Lucario trapped him in the same Aura-cage I saw Blade trapped in before. Then, he looked directly at me, worry in his eyes,

"Risk? There's no point in hiding yourself- I can sense your Aura!" Reluctantly, I revealed my hiding spot and ran to Lucario, wrapping my arms around him, as the Gengar looked at me and laughed,

"Kekekek! Now, I can kill both you and your son, at the same time!" he said, as he readied another Focus Blast, aimed at the both of us.

"Risk!" my father yelled to me,

"Just remember, a true explorer never gives up!" Suddenly, Lucario picked me up and threw me away from the blast, as the Aura-cache broke, and Gengar fired, enveloping the area in light again...

When I opened my eyes, Gengar was standing there, laughing, looking at an amulet on the ground. It leaned down to pick it up, and I knew that ghostly Pokemon could not take the amulet- it was meant for me! Faster than light, I sped past Gengar, snatching the amulet, and running into the forest, my heart heavy and my mind bent on avenging my father...
