Chapter 5
The following morning, NXT was buzzing with the usual pre-show excitement. The energy backstage was high as wrestlers and crew members prepared for another day of matches and events. Y/N arrived early again, keen to keep his momentum going. He was wrapping up his workout in the gym when he noticed **Cora Jade** walking in, her demeanor bright and cheerful.
Cora: “Hey, stranger! Mind if I join you for a workout today?”
Y/N, surprised but pleased to see her, smiled.
Y/N: “Of course not, Cora. The more, the merrier.”
Cora set her stuff down and joined Y/N on the mat, stretching before they began their routine. As they worked out together, their conversation turned from casual chat to something a bit more personal.
Cora: “So, Y/N, now that we’re getting to know each other better, I’ve got to ask—anyone special in your life?”
Y/N was momentarily taken aback by the question, pausing mid-rep.
Y/N: “Oh, uh, not really. I’ve been so focused on wrestling lately that I haven’t had much time for anything else. Why do you ask?”
Cora gave him a playful smirk as she continued her stretches.
Cora Jade: “Just curious. It’s always interesting to see what people are like outside of the ring. And, let’s be honest, it’s always fun to poke a bit of fun.”
Y/N laughed, shaking his head.
Y/N: “I see. Well, there’s nothing much to poke fun at. I’m pretty boring when it comes to that.”
Cora raised an eyebrow, clearly enjoying the teasing.
Cora: “Boring, huh? I doubt that. You seem like someone who could have a pretty interesting love life if you wanted to. Just a hunch.”
Y/N chuckled, trying to brush off the comment.
Y/N: “If you say so. I guess I’m more focused on getting my career off the ground right now.”
Cora leaned in a bit closer, her tone playful and curious.
Cora: “Come on, you’ve got to have at least one good story. Even if you’re focused on your career, everyone has a little bit of romance in their past, right?”
Y/N smiled, shaking his head again.
Y/N: “Well, I might have a few stories, but I’m not sure they’re as exciting as you’re hoping.”
Cora’s eyes sparkled with interest.
Cora: “Oh, I’m intrigued now. Just a little teaser? Something that doesn’t involve wrestling or training?”
Y/N thought for a moment, then shrugged.
Y/N: “Alright, here’s a mild one. I once went on a date that ended up with us getting stuck in an elevator for a few hours. We had to wait for someone to come and get us out. Not the most glamorous date, but it was memorable.”
Cora laughed, clearly entertained by the story.
Cora: “Stuck in an elevator? That’s actually kind of funny
. I bet you had some interesting conversations during that time.”
Y/N nodded, grinning at the memory.
Y/N: “Yeah, we ended up talking about everything from movies to our favorite foods. It was actually a pretty good time, considering the circumstances.”
Cora playfully nudged him.
Cora: “See? I knew there was something interesting about you. It’s not all wrestling and training.”
As they continued their workout, Cora’s playful teasing eased into a more genuine conversation about life outside of wrestling. They talked about their favorite movies, hobbies, and their experiences growing up. Y/N found himself opening up more, enjoying the chance to connect with Cora on a personal level.
After their workout, they decided to grab breakfast together in the venue’s cafeteria. As they ate, Cora kept up her lighthearted teasing.
Cora: “So, any other secrets you want to share? Maybe something about your dream date or ideal partner?”
Y/N paused, considering the question. He leaned back in his chair, his expression thoughtful.
Y/N: “Well, if I had to choose, I’d say someone who’s understanding and supportive. Someone who gets the demands of this career but also has their own passions. It’s important to have that balance.”
Cora nodded, clearly impressed with his answer.
Cora: “That’s a great perspective. It’s important to find someone who respects your career and has their own drive. I can see why you’re focused on making an impact here; it’s clear you’ve got your priorities straight.”
Y/N appreciated the compliment and the genuine conversation.
Y/N: “Thanks, Cora. It means a lot to hear that. I guess I’m just trying to make the most of every opportunity I get.”
Cora smiled, finishing her breakfast.
Cora: “And you’re doing a great job at it. Just remember, while you’re focused on your career, don’t forget to enjoy the little things. Life’s not just about the big moments; it’s also about the small, unexpected ones.”
Y/N nodded, taking her advice to heart. The conversation had been refreshing, and he felt a renewed sense of clarity about his goals and how he wanted to balance his personal and professional life.
As they finished up, Cora stood and stretched, preparing for the day ahead.
Cora: “Well, I’ve got to head back and get ready for my next match. Thanks for the chat, Y/N. It was really nice getting to know you better.”
Y/N stood up as well, giving her a friendly smile.
Y/N: “Anytime, Cora. Good luck with your match later. I’ll be watching.”
Cora grinned and waved as she headed off, leaving Y/N to reflect on their conversation. He felt more grounded and focused, with a better understanding of the importance of balancing personal and professional aspects of his life.
As he prepared for the day’s events, Y/N felt a sense of anticipation and excitement. The interactions he’d had, from his conversation with Cora to his encounter with Logan Kenway, had given him a newfound sense of confidence. He knew that the road ahead would be challenging, but with supportive friends and a clearer perspective, he felt ready to face whatever came his way.
With a deep breath and a determined mindset, Y/N moved forward, eager to embrace the opportunities that awaited him in NXT.
