More Info of Odol
Name- Odol (Loosely Basque/Spain Inspired, Mainly Italy Inspired)
Name Meaning- Blood
Population- 50 Million
Geography-
They have an extensive irrigation system that helps sustain crops with the majority of their farmland surrounding their border with Roweneylia, Elocia, and near the Enchanted Forest. They have plenty of grazing land suitable for horses, goats, and cattle.
One side of Odol’s border is all water and the country has a decent navy that patrols/controls its shores (will see mostly humans in the navy typically). The majority of Odol is a vast plateau broken up by mountains, deep gorges, and broad, shallow depressions. Was linked with the trade routes of the ancient civilizations that developed within the region, especially Cerrejon. Mountain range shared with Balinford and another with Perdition, helping to form a natural border with those two countries. The border they share with Elocia keeps them separated due to the Neith River, though there is some contention on where the exact border lies.

System of government-
Aristocracy- a form of government in which political power is held by a select few privileged people called aristocrats or nobles. Coming from a Greek word meaning “rule by the best,” aristocrats are considered the most qualified to rule because of their moral and intellectual superiority.
There are two main houses of government, the House of Vampires and the House of Lords (humans). Both are made up of aristocrats, however the House of Lords was a more recent development after the revolution happened (18th century, 1700s). Both Houses are usually made up of businessmen and landowners (especially the House of Lords, one can only be elevated to Lord by having land and a business) and are made to keep each other in check so that one does not overpower the other (those in the House of Vampires aren’t allowed to turn any humans unless they go through the proper process of registering their desired human, the human consenting and then going through training; this process is usually overseen by a Taskmaster or the head of the vampire’s coven). The one that keeps both Houses in line is the woman known as the first vampire and the Embodiment of the Sun, Verlaine if she ever leaves her palace to do so. Usually she will send out her wards to act in her stead; they are known as Taskmasters.
(Counties were once essentially city-states in the beginning of their history, has changed now that they’re more unified after the revolution)
Social Levels/Classes-
Top to bottom in society
The first vampire and founder of Odol,Verlaine: She is the tie breaker and ultimate enforcer over the Houses
The House of Vampires & House of Lords: landowners and businessmen, each owns/runs a particular county in Odol
Taskmasters: the wards of Verlaine, they oversee the Houses and report back to Verlaine along with other necessary tasks. Outside of this, they have no power and can be reported, either by the House or by other Taskmasters, if they are suspected of abusing their power (usually this will require a majority vote from both Houses if the report comes from there).
Pack Leaders: due to the amount of were-creatures in the country that were once treated like slaves, there are many different packs. They operate independently from the Houses but are subject to the laws of the country as a whole
Army/Naval Officers, Generals, Soldiers, etc.: those in the military that didn’t want to get stuck in factory work, one of the other ways to climb the social ladder
Factory/business owners: as one can only join one of the Houses if they have both land and a business, they are a little lower than the aristocrats but are often well respected depending on the business (majority are humans but there are quite a few weres in the mix as well).
Factory workers: those that don’t come from money and must work for it, much of the country are those in Odol’s workforce
The Forgotten: it has gotten better but there is a slums area where some shady stuff do happen near what is the “red light district” where smuggling and other illegal practices are afoot
Religion-
Many of the human population are monotheistic, worshiping God in the usual Christian/Catholic ways. Others are polytheistic, or believe in multiple gods but mainly worship one or two that apply to them the most (ex. werewolves and the moon god)
Art/ Architecture-
Architecture: Renaissance, Romanesque, Palladian, Renaissance Revival, Italian Gothic, Neoclassical, Italian Baroque, Palazzo style, Italian Neoclassical, French Renaissance, Basque
Art: Stained glass, Renaissance art, Barocco, Roman/Italian classical art, numerous murals and paintings in churches, on sidewalks (typically in the older and newer parts of Odol), some aspects of steampunk
