Information About Elocia

Name- Elocia (Mainly Germany Inspired)
Name Meaning- of a noble kind/place of rest for the souls of the virtuous

Population- 78.6 Million

Geography- The geography consists of tall mountains in the south near the border Elocia shares with Baliford, the River Neith that helps separate them from Odol, the forest that separates them from Aarnik and Cyrusia, and the desserts of Cerrejon that bleed into the border Elocia shares with them. Elocia’s geography mostly consists of forested hills and broad plains of farmland near the capitol. Overall, though it is a relatively flat land, there are a few gorges left behind from ancient battles left behind by ancient gods and goddesses.

Much of the country is cursed with eternal winter, but since the capital is blessed by The Saintess’s power, it is the only area of the Elocian queendom able to have different seasons. There are enchanted obelisks fueled by The Saintess’s power that are placed around farming communities that help facilitate the seasons so farmers can actually grow their crops, but it is still difficult for Elocia to provide for itself… which is why the Chosen One is so important to the queendom.

System of government-
Theocracy- a government by divine guidance or by officials who are regarded as divinely guided. In many theocracies, government leaders are members of the clergy, and the state's legal system is based on religious law. They place an emphasis on following rules, punctuality and a sense of community.
The country of Elocia has always been run by a woman with divine abilities called The Saintess (due to this, Elocia is often referred to as a queendom). The Saintess often delivers prophecies and guides the country to prosperity, though she is also assisted by a clergy composed of the head priests and priestesses of their cities. Oftentimes The Saintess is also advised by those that live outside of Elocia proper but are still within Elocian territory, namely the clan leaders of the various clans of Dyrvyras (humans with animal-like abilities and features but are unable to transform into either a full human or full animal) who help keep the borders of Elocia safe from attacks

Social Levels/Classes-
Top to bottom in society
The Saintess- the ruler of Elocia, given the divine right to rule through God’s blessings, possessing the ability of prophecy, she is the figurehead of the entire queendom
Divine Counsel- a council that advises The Saintess and helps run Elocia; it is made up of the head priests and priestesses of each city.
Dyrvyras- the Dyrvyras are technically outside of the social levels/classes since they are more allies to Elocia and just happen to live in the territory. They tend to help guard the borders of Elocia and remain in clans based on their animal-like qualities; sometimes this reflects in their clan dynamics (wolf Dyrvyras have a pack dynamic, feline Dyrvyras tend to be more individualistic and rarely stick together in clans unless its their family, etc.) though they are typically led by both a shaman (elder) and the head of their pack (one leader guides/aides them spiritually while the other focuses on the physical needs and defense of the pack). In the past Elocians used to think of them as mere animalistic barbarians, but they are simply a people that prefer traditional ways of doing things and value their history. This isn’t to say that some haven’t become more modern and there are many that don’t stay in their clans and choose to join Elocian society (they are also more respected in modern Elocia after they’ve helped save the queendom many times, though this is a more recent- within the past 200 years- change in thinking)
Military, navy, etc.- those that didn’t want to go into politics or go to college and pursue the path of priest/priestess-hood, they are often well respected
Priests & Priestesses- since their government revolves around religion, rather than by election or blood relations, cities and towns are ran by priests and priestesses (these are less powerful/significant compared to the Divine Council)
Regular Citizens- regular citizens, including everyone from workers/entrepreneurs to the heads of businesses
Orphans- while the state takes good care of orphans, they are technically the lowest on the social hierarchy

Religion-
The citizens of Elocia are widely monotheistic Christians (either Catholics or Protestant). They believe that other gods and similar deities exist, but God is the only one they worship. The Dyrvyras are shamanists, which means that they believe their shamans have a connection to the otherworld, have the power to heal the sick, communicate with spirits, and escort souls of the dead to the afterlife. They also believe in and worship nature gods and goddesses and have only just now started writing down their religious stories and clan histories (before this, these stories were only told through oral history).

Art/ Architecture-
Architecture: Traditional timbered German houses and chalets can be found all over the south of the country, whilst Baltic brick homes from the Medieval era are still found in northern towns today. In the cities, a blend of Gothic and Romanesque sits happily alongside Bauhaus, Modernist, and Contemporary buildings.Carolingian, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, sustainable & energy efficient, and International Style architecture.

Art:
Elocian painters tended to emphasize line and pattern over three-dimensional form. They juxtaposed strong contrasts of color and continued to use gold backgrounds long after they became old fashioned elsewhere; there are forms of Socialist Realism that dominated artistic practice, many artists experimented with avant-garde movements such as Abstract Expressionism, Pop art, minimalism, and Op art, and they’ve adopted elements of the Renaissance style in creating more realistic forms and using perspective. However, the bright colors and the stiffness of the figures in their work show the lingering influence of Gothic art. Most of the art in Elocia is religious in nature.

Public Works-
Typical public services, schools, colleges, churches, temples, The Saintess’s obelisks, hospitals, and transport infrastructure (including roads, railways and bridges, etc.)

Writing/Language-
Traditionally used runes, though many Elocians have long converted to writing down their stories and messages with pen and paper (the Dyrvyras still tend to teach and use runes while Elocians can choose whether or not to learn them, typically in a high school or college setting). Their native language is German and they use the Germanic alphabet (German uses the same 26 letters as English, with four extra characters: ä, ö, ü, and ß. The first three are alternate pronunciations or “shifts” of the vowels a, o and u. The ¨ mark is called an "umlaut"). They are fluent in the universal language as well (english)
