XX. Gunfire

Over the past few months since I last updated it, quite a few of you readers have commented or messaged me to update. And so after finding some time to get my fingers on the keyboard where I'm not typing up college essays, I have finally written a chapter.

Also this I the 20th chapter of the book. If anyone remembers what's going on from the last chapter, I'm impressed. You have  a better memory than I do and I wrote the book.

I don't own Star Wars.
========================================
Chaos broke out among Jiara. People are pointing fingers or blasters at one another, ships are being rushed out of the square, there's speed bidding, shouting, crying, and stampedes as people run away or towards where the shot was fired. You get up and give Ryuzaki a solid punch in the face. "You couldn't conceal the gun for long could you?" He doesn't respond and you're glad he doesn't.

You run to the nearest ships and note that it has a nuclear reactor. You're thinking of stealing it since Orson wants it and there's so much chaos no one will notice it's gone until it's too late.

That's when a gunshot breaks out, followed quickly by a volley of more shot. At first you throw yourself to the ground and cover your head, but when your senses finally kick in, the gunshot are nowhere near you. You peek around the ship to see that most of the fire is concentrated in Orson's direction. Someone must have recognized him.

You grab your electro binoculars and scramble to the top of the ship to see better with them. Len has... a lightsaber... behind her is Orson, who has his pistol out. On the other side of Orson is Matsuda with her pistol in one hand and a possibly stolen one in the other.

You look for Mello and Near. You find them on the wall that surrounds Jiara, high above everyone else. They are talking about something but they're not firing. Weren't they supposed to protect the director if someone attempted to assassinate him? Rather, it doesn't seem like they're even aware that there's a shootout going on.

You lift your arm to com them and yell at them. Suddenly you're grabbed from behind and dropped into a speeder. Ryuzaki hops in next to you, explaining his brilliant plan of some sorts. "I've found our two ships. No one cares about bidding anymore so we'll get away with taking them. Strap in and let's go get the rest!"

He's right. There's so much commotion that no one knows what's going on. Someone nearby is shouting "The Imperials are coming!" The gates are locked closed and a ray shield stretches over the walled city. Hidden cannons unfold from the wall, their barrels poking through the ray shield. Jiara looks ready for war.

"Ryuzaki, why aren't Mello and Near doing anything?" You ask as you hang on to the side. He doesn't answer. Ryuzaki trusts the controls forward, knocking over some people.

"Good Forcing Maker!" You screech. "You could care to drive more carefully!"

"Language," he smirks back. He then adds "Hang on," as he throws the throttle backwards and his weight and joysticks to the left, forcing the speeder to bank hard to the left and spin.

How you didn't puke is a miracle. Ryuzaki ends up next to the wall where Mello and Near are hanging out. "Hey chief!" Mello calls as he drops into the speeder, Near following close behind. "What's the situation?"

Near looks at you. "R. Dekin, you look like you've seen a ghost." And maybe you have: your own ghost to be exact.

"Failed. Let's move. We gotta get Matsuda."

"What about Krennic?" You insist, snapping out of your trance.

"Why is (L/Name) here?" Demands Near.

"You got something against (L/Name)?" challenges Ryuzaki. His retort works and Near doesn't say anything afterwards.

Somehow the lot of you survives Ryuzaki's driving. By the time the group of you reach Krennic, Len, and Matsuda, Len and Matsuda are dishing out one of the most intense defense groups two people can do while Krennic helps out somewhat. Ryuzaki stamps on the brake as he yanks back the joystick, pulling up alongside the three. "Get in."

Krennic stared at the speeder. "Does that have the correct reactor?"

"No it doesn't. I'm going to get one." You help Krennic in and Matsuda swings into the speeder, knocking Krennic to the ground and stealing Mello's pistol. "Len, you coming?" Ryuzaki says.

Len nods. She makes a jump for the speeder yet someone got a lucky shot, bringing her crashing into the speeder. "Len!" You yell on instinct. Of course you don't care that much about the woman but there was something about watching people get hurt that made you react as though you did care.

Her lightsaber hilt had landed near Mello, who used it to compensate for his missing pistol. "Everyone down!" Ryuzaki shouted before gunning the engine. Whoever wasn't down was thrown down as the speeder lurched forward. You and Krennic remain close to the ground. once you have found your center of gravity, you turn to work on Len and stop her bleeding. You had never seen a blaster bolt draw blood before. Usually it heated the skin and sealed the wound, leaving a third degree burn on the area.

Keennic finds something on the bottom of the speeder. "Look at this," he said to you before the two of you were chucked across the speeder. The next thing you knew, Mello had dragged you out of the speeder and thrown you into a ship. Ryuzaki and Mello joined your ship while Krennic and Len were tossed into another ship by Matsuda, who was quickly followed by Near. "Mello!" Ryuzaki shouts as he fires at the attackers, even going as far as stealing your pistol which you had been using (you were not happy about that).

"On it!" Mello springs to the front of the ship. "RY, what about the others!?"

"Trust them! We have (Name) anyway!" He shouts.

You can't follow their conversation and when you try to ask Ryuzaki for an answer, he responds by shoving you behind the bay door latch to stay safe. The bay door finally shut and the ship jumps off the ground. Mello shoots down one of the Jiara wall cannons to break through the ray shield, shooting through before the ray shield compensated for the weakness.

Now that your ships is away from all the shooting, Ryuzaki and Mello let out a sigh. Mello then taps the coms. "This is DT-ME... DT-MA, DT-NE. Do you read?"

He repeats his broadcast a few times before a holomessage came in, Matsuda's face lighting up the room. "Director Krennic wants us to go directly to the new battle station," says she.

Ryuzaki frowns. "You gotta be kidding me? What are they doing with the Jedi?"

"She's probably gonna be killed. Or tortured. The obvious answers." Something's off to you. Matsuda's eyes are not still. They are searching around as though she wasn't supposed to be talking. You let yourself fade into the back of the ship and listen to their conversation.

"Or he'll use her for an advantage with the Resistance groups," adds Mello.

"I thought Order 66 cleaned out the Jedi?" Matsuda sounds completely confused.

Ryuzaki gives her an answer. "Not all of them. Some like Tuttle got away. The Empire hasn't seen even a fifth of the known galaxy. Now imagine how many Jedi that would be spread over every planet and the systems we don't know yet. We are living Order 66 now. We will continue living it until three thousand years pass which no species can live to. Even so, new ones will rise."

"You sound so sure they should be exterminated..." Matsuda said sadly. "But Len is so nice. Why do we hate them again."

Ryuzaki makes a sound only to have Mello cut him off. "We need to stop talking. Krennic has ears everywhere." With that he ends the transmission.

Your head is spinning too many directions. What kind of conversation is that? What were these troops planning? Should you warn Krennic? Yeah, that might be a good idea. You slowly reach for your wrist com when you hear footsteps approaching. Hurriedly, you put your hands down as Ryuzaki swaggers around the corner. It's for the first time you see that there is desperation in his eyes mixing with anger. He fears something. "Private, how are you with escape pods? No claustrophobia?"

"A little but not enough to be bothered by escape pods for a short distance? What, are you thinking of dropping me off in space?" You laugh at your own joke.

He's dead serious. "Yes. Yes I am. You're a mechanic. You probably know this is a thermal powered ship, yeah?" You nod. "Next question: how well can you handle the truth? Because we have a lot to tell you."

"We're really doing this?" Mello asks intensely. You have never seen these two so intense in any other situation except escaping Jiara.

Your confusion only grows when Ryuzaki nods. "Yes. We're doing this now."
