XV. How Do You Take Astronomy?

Fifteen chapters in and I still haven't written a make out scene with Krennic because don't know how to write a make out scene. You would think I would know since I'm a legal American adult next year...

I don't own anything.

"STOP SINGING THAT SONG!!" Mello snaps, his eyes shooting invisible and harmless daggers over his shoulder.

"But it fun!" Matsuda whines. Yet she stops singing and lets her feet drag slightly as she follows him.

"It's annoying," Mello scowls. "Where did you learn that song anyway?"

"Ryuzaki..."

Mello glares at Ryuzaki, who just shrugs in response, clearly not caring. "Calm down, DT-NE," Ryuzaki mutters. "We're all bored. It's not like this is a scenic hike. This is the flattest grassland I've ever seen."

Mello opens his mouth to retort but doesn't allow any words to escape. He lets out a huff and continues walking, ignoring Matsuda's humming and focusing on Near, Krennic, and your back.

The heat is starting to make your head spin and you wish you hadn't drank most of your water ration early. Your mind can hardly process anything being said behind you. Rather, it focuses on your own internal complaints.

First, you want water. You feel like you haven't tasted the cool soothing liquid in years and you wouldn't be surprised if your skin is starting to shrivel like it does in the shower. Second, you wish you had bright clothing like Orson, even if the brighter colors hurt your eyes when the greenish sun reflected off them. Why does the Empire wear such dark standard uniforms anyway? Yes, it is cold in space, but do they think they are some evil organization or something? The rebels wear lighter colored clothing that allows them to tolerate warm and cold weather.

Wait, why do you care anyway? You're a mathematician, not a clothes designer.

Third, you wish you could eat. Again, the rations are under Orson's control and he decides when everyone drinks and when they eat. At the moment, any feelings for him you had are gone and you want to knock him over and eat and drink all of it. But you know better than to do that. It's probably the heat getting to your head.

The sound of Near clearing his throat makes you look towards him. He takes a deep breath and says the first thing he's said in the last hour. "How the hell do they have that much energy?"

"Who?" You ask. Yeouch, your throat feels like a frog is stuck in it.

He nods towards the three Death Troopers. Mello and Ryuzaki are chatting away under their breaths while Matsuda has taken to running around the group collecting rocks. She travels back and forth between "special" rocks and Orson, presenting them to him, to which he responds with "That's nice, Matsuda," or something along those lines.

"How much longer do you suppose it is until we find somewhere interesting?" Near grumbles. "If you're a good mathematician as the Director says, shouldn't you be able to calculate our exact coordinates using the sun?"

"I didn't take astronomy," You admit. "I only understand the basics."

"How you take astronomy?" Matsuda wants to know. She stops running and matches your stride. "You can't steal it." Near rolls his eyes while you try to explain it to her with the least amount of words. You'd rather waste your energy walking.

It doesn't seem like your words are reaching her brain. Rather, they seem to go through one ear and right out the other. But she doesn't leave your side until you finish. She nods appropriately and grins the whole time. "Thank you, (Name)!" she says before dropping behind you... to ask Ryuzaki the same question.

Frustrated, you listen as Ryuzaki repeats your words, except this time they seemed to reach Matsuda. "She does that all the time," Near mutters. "It's honestly the most annoying thing ever." Is this what Orson deals with every day?

Speaking of Orson, he finally decides to say something. "To be fair, humans only have about a six second attention span anyways, thanks to technology. And then there are the few that last even shorter than that."
========================================
It was around 1400 (or so you guessed based off the sun's position) when Orson finds a few trees for everyone to rest under. He distributes the rations and everyone takes a heartfelt sip of water. You also take the liberty of eating half your field ration.

Orson sits down next to you. He wipes away the plastered hairs from his forehead before drinking. "You feeling okay?" He asks.

"Yeah, why?"

"Just checking."

You actually have at least 99 problems on your mind right now but don't have the heart or energy to voice them all. "I grew up doing a lot of walking. My family couldn't afford to keep a speeder until they got a job working with the Separatists."

Krennic raises an eyebrow. Now you've got his attention for good. "Where did you grow up?"

"Lexrul."

He looks amused. "I was raised on Lexrul as well."

"Would have been funny if we saw each other as kids."

"I highly doubt it. I would remember a face like yours."

A sheepish grin creeps upon you just like the slight heat in your cheeks. You shake your head slowly and take his hand, squeezing it. He gives it a small squeeze back.

You pull him a little closer to you and gaze up at him. Your eyes don't land on his. Rather, they land a little lower; on his lips. It feels like it's been forever since you kissed him. Perhaps now would be a good time. The troops didn't care, they knew you were in a relationship. They were no imperials to interfere, no nosy roommates to tease you. You can feel the heat from his skin as you inch closer...

Suddenly your forehead collides with his sharply. Krennic yelps and immediately places his hand on the back of his head. "For Force's sake, Ryuzaki! Why did you do that?!"

"I wanted to get your attention," Ryuzaki responds.

"Slapping me in the back of the head is not the ideal way to get someone's attention. Do you do that to Governor Tarkin!?"

"Sorry sir. I didn't mean to upset you. And yes I have. It's one of the reasons I hardly passed the test."

You and Orson find yourselves staring at Ryuzaki as though he turned into a reek. You can feel the anger radiating off Krennic. Rather than losing his temper like you expect him to, he sighs heavily. "Now that you have my attention, DT-RY, care to tell me what's important?"

"I've spotted a smoke column on the horizon."

That gets you to your feet faster than if you were offered an All-You-Can-Eat Buffet. "Where?!" You demand. Ryuzaki points out across the plain. Sure enough, there is a small column of smoke rising from the ground.

A stream of new energy flows through you. Civilization! You can finally get off this Force-awful planet and take back everything Barcalon claimed as her own! You turn around and see the others all admiring the smoke. "Well? What are you waiting for? Let's go!"

"That is a long walk away," Mello mutters.

"So what?" you say. "Let's get moving so we can cover some distance before the sun sets." With a small shrug from the other five, you, Orson and the troopers begin walking towards the small house that could be the difference between spending the rest of your life here and spending the rest of your life serving the Empire like you had sworn to do.

Sooooooo... on my mini hiatus I took the time to read this entire book and it spiked quite a few new ideas into my head. Originally, this book would end in the next 5-7 chapters but I think I will scrap my old ideas and shoot for a more complicated and hopefully interesting plot rather than falling back on a mushy romance story (Attack of the Clones (I don't mean to offend you if you lock AotC)). Yes, I know it would be ideal for those of you who are obsessed with Krennic as I am (and those who came looking for a typical reader x character story) but for the life of me I can't write good mushy romance and would rather not screw up a potentially interesting future plotline.

Don't worry! You'll get your kiss with Krennic soon without an interruption... sometime... maybe... okay I'll stop.

Thanks for listening to me ramble! Hope you enjoyed the chapter and if you did, please leave a vote (or a comment).
