XII. Taking Over
Let's see if I can get back on schedule...
I don't own anything.
===================================
If there was something that could make living on a ship again worse, it would be the fact that one day you found Krennic on the floor, coughing up blood. He was on his back clenching his stomach and desperately trying to breathe when you came into his office. You didn't hesitate to rush to him. Yo rolled him to his side and immediately checked to make sure he wasn't choking on his own tongue. You stayed at his side until he stopped coming enough to talk. "Orson, what happened!?" You nearly yelled.
Orson winced a little at your loud voice. It's then you noticed the multiple bruises and the black eye he had on his face. You didn't even want to know what happened anymore. You turned your com on and called for help.
"(N-Name)," Orson wheezed. He began coughing again and that's when some medics came in. Within ten minutes, Orson was whisked away to the medical bay and you were left in his office.
You didn't know what to do. You were worried about Orson but as much as you wanted to follow the doctors and make sure Orson was okay, there was something else you had to do. You cleaned up the floor first and then began searching through his work to find a schedule of any sort that could help you decide what to do next.
Suddenly you heard the door open. You looked up to see a female officer the same rank as you stride in. She frowned when she saw you. "Pardon me, Private. May I inquire where Orson Krennic is?"
"In the medical bay," you said. Did this woman really have to know why Krennic was in the medical bay? No, and so you weren't going to say anymore.
She frowned. "Oh dear, is he alright?" You didn't answer right away. With a sigh, she said "Well, I suppose you don't know where his apprentice, do you?"
She seemed familiar to you. You could almost recognize the face shape but you weren't sure where you had seen it before. The blue eyes on the woman reminded you strong of Krennic and you wondered how he was doing. "I am his apprentice, ma'am."
"You are? My! You don't seem like the type of apprentice he would have." You frowned. "I was hoping he would chose someone far more handsome," she muttered under her breath but it wasn't a real mutter. You could hear it just fine.
You found yourself growing angrier with each word she said. 'Shut up, Lady!' You thought. Taking a deep breath, you asked "How can I help you?"
"Of course!" She handed you a datapad with a checklist. "This is all the parts your master wanted, correct?"
You scanned the checklist. You had no idea if these were the things Krennic ordered or not. You hacked into his datapad and searched around for a bit before you found the parts list. You checked off everything and found that the lists matched. "Yes, that is the right one."
The woman gave a tight smile. "Excellent! Now, the only issue is that they are to arrive at Eadu and we need one (or both) of you at Eadu to confirm the parts and seal the deal with the manufactures."
You nod. Guess that means you're going to Eadu now. "Thank you for letting me know about this. I'll make sure to pass the message on to the Director," you said calmly.
"Thank you, dearie," the woman says. You don't like the time in the woman's voice. You watch as she leaves and walks away from the office. You scan through Krennic's work for any priorities that you should be thinking about instead but find none. So you grab his datapad and head to the medical bay.
On your way, you run into Coronal Rik Holst. He's still here? Not that you hate the coronal, you're just annoyed because Krennic didn't like him. It seems like Krennic is rubbing off on you as well. "Private (L/Name)," he says.
You force a smile. "Hello Coronal," you say as you walk by.
Holst reaches out and grips your shoulder. It's not a gentle grasp. You reach up and push his hand away. Holst frowns at the gesture but continues on as though nothing had happened. "Private (L/Name), might you know where Director Krennic is at the moment?"
What an odd word choice. You frown. Why was he was asking this? Then again, was it possible he didn't know yet? You found that odd since he was a high rank. "Yes, he's in the medical bay."
Holst's stern expression disappears. Now he looks concerned. "What happened?" He asked.
"I'm not sure."
"Then could you pass a message on to him for me?" You nod. "I need you to inform him that he must head to Eadu soon. We have the parts that he requested and since he is in charge of the operation at Eadu, I need him to supervise their delivery."
"Of course," you said. "Someone else already told me that." Holst looked confused and you began to feel like something odd was going on.
"Thank you, (Miss/Mr.) (L/Name). Please give Krennic my condolences." And with that, he left.
You went into the medical bay and after arguing with the receptionist, you were allowed to go on and see him. Krennic looks kind of pale. He acknowledges your entrance by glancing your way and then smiling weakly. You walk over to his bedside. "Krennic."
"(Name)," he responds. You tell him about the Eadu supervision. Krennic listens intently, thought you doubt it would be wise for him to go. He seems to think the same thing, for once you see done, he says "Bring them yourself."
"What?" You ask.
"Supervise the parts for me."
"But sir, I don't think I have the authority to do such a thing."
"You're my damned apprentice. What more authority do you need?" Krennic reaches up and takes off his rank pin. He hands it to you. "Congratulations. You got a promotion. Now get the hell out of here and take care of those parts. Oh, and grab the holodisks on my desk in my office labeled RT something. Give them to the head of the operation personally." You salute and run off. As you leave, he shouts "The Death Troopers are yours as well!"
It was odd to think that two minutes you were a Private and now you were a director. You whistled to the Death Troopers. "We're going down to Eadu," You say. "Accompany me, please." The Death Troopers glance at each other but no one says anything. They follow you like obedient dogs.
The transport is already loaded and ready for you when you reach the ship bay. You and the troopers board the ship. You notice that this isn't just any sort of transport. It's an old Republic carrier. The pieces inside are crammed in with such care it looks like a giant puzzle.
As you travel down, you finger the holodisks in your pocket. Who was the head of the operation? How were you going to find the head of the operation when you didn't even know the slightest bit on who he looked like Maybe you could ask the Death Trooper next to you. You glance at the side of his helmet. DT-NE, or Near, as Krennic sometimes called him for short. "Near, who is the head of the Eadu Operation?"
"Director Krennic," Near responds. You feel your stomach sink. Should you have given the holodisks to Krennic? As time passes, your worry grows greater and greater.
Eventually you reach Eadu. The Death Troopers march after you in two straight rows. You finger the holodisks one more time, deciding to give them to Krennic when you got back. You exited the ship. The Eadu workers were lined up on the platform with one man standing before them. He must be the leader. As you got closer, you realized that this was no ordinary man. This was Galen Erso, the man who inspired you to go into computer science.
Galen walked forwards, separating himself from the other workers. You did the same and the two of you met in the middle. Galen stared at you, his eyes glinting with confusion. You watched as he glanced at Krennic's pin that sat on your bosom. You took a deep breath, ready to say something, but the words were lost in your throat.
Thankfully, Galen came to your rescue. "What has Krennic done this time?"
==========================================
Yay! You met Galen Erso! But what is the holodisk for? Why is Holst still hanging out on the ship? And will Krennic be okay?
Also, I'm sorry if the style of this chapter is different from the others. I kind of rushed writing this.
