VI. Apologies
By the name of this chapter, you may or may not be able to guess what's going to go down today. But don't fear! Derp is here! To completely mess up everything (Or make it amazing (it really depends on what I'm listening to. The sadder the song, the sadder the chapter))!
Also, I have pretty much written the next four chapters... maybe I'll start posting more often.
I don't own anything.

Grand Moff Tarkin leaves the Raider to transfer over to the Grand Admiral' Thrawn's ship, the Chimera. You're actually very happy about this. Finally! Tarkin is gone! The ship command falls to the highest admiral onboard, Admiral Priar, who still can be a bastard at times but at least he's not Tarkin.
Since the maintenance on the Raider is taking so long (for some reason) everyone gets a good half day of leave time. You're on duty for the morning half, which is the better time anyway. You're more alert in the morning than in the afternoon.
In the afternoon, you and your other two roommates Collin Dayner and Rina Ceeds go out shopping (Felici, Merrit, and your other roommate Daeny Klives had afternoon duty). It's been a long time since you have been off the Raider. You and your roommates estimate it's been about four years; since the time you celebrated after a successful orientation and first Day as an official Imperial private. So when you, Collin and, Rina are released from duty, the three of you act almost like children in a candy store. At the same time you are forced to keep your composure because you're still wearing your imperial uniform.
You, Collin, and Rina decide to go shopping. Normally you all hate shopping but who knows? It might be better this time. And it was. It was worth cent you spend on food and supplies you buy. The three of you stock up on the ingredients needed to make cookie dough without the egg. You also buy quite a bit of chocolate and other sweets. Other officers might think you were crazy, but, hey, it never hurts to pretend to turn back time back to your teenage years now and then.
With all the excitement and adventure, you forget about your failed apprenticeship with Krennic. And it feels good to spend time away from those thoughts. However, as you were heading back towards the Raider with your gold mine of food tucked in bags hanging from your arms, you see Krennic. He's staring at you, an angry expression on his face. In your attempt to pretend you don't notice him, you lock eyes with him for a split second. Then you averted your eyes away. For some reason, you feel slightly angry at him. You're not ready to pretend you forgave him already for yelling at you.
You, Collin, and Rina put the groceries away in your hotel room, which all the officers were staying in for the night (the stormtroopers got to sleep outside or in parts of the ship that were fixed). "We should go for a nighttime walk once Felici, Merrit, and Daeny get back," you suggest.
"Maybe," said Collin. "We'll see what the other three-" He stops talking when the three of you hear knuckles rapping against the door.
Frowning, you, Rina and Collin pass glances around at each other. The two then stare at you and you realize you're stuck with greeting the visitor/intruder. You stand up and open the door. You're frozen solid when you see Director Krennic at the doorway. You're not sure what to say. Thankfully, he does. "Private (L/Name), I'd like to have a word with you right now. Alone."
You're too shocked to move until you hear Rina clear her throat. You look back at your roommates. Rina mouths the words 'I thought you said he didn't want to see you again?' You raise your eyebrows to signal 'I dunno!'
"(L/Name)?" Krennic asks.
You can't keep the director waiting. You take a deep breath and nod. "Very well. I'll speak with you. Lead the way." Krennic spins on his heel and walks down the hall. You follow, glancing one more time at your confused roommates before walking away and shutting the door. Whatever Krennic wants to talk to you about, it was probably something only you would understand, even if it discussed the failed apprenticeship.
Krennic leads you to a hotel room that you assume is his. Your suspicions are confirmed when he swipes the keycard to get in. He motions for you to go first and you do so hesitantly. For some reason, you feel as though he is going to yell at you again. Hasn't he done enough of yelling already? Krennic comes in after you. You turn in the middle of the room and face him. "I want to apologize," he says.
"Apologize?" You say in shock. Krennic isn't one for apologizing.
"I'm sorry the way I snapped at you yesterday. I was... embarrassed to find out that you were..." he trails off but he doesn't need to say anything anyway. You already know what he's referring to.
Still, you can't let him go without a little anger. "You certainly lashed out. I don't know what exactly call that, but it was far from a thank you."
"I understand that," he says tiredly. "I want to make it up to you." This catches you completely off guard. What he says next makes you even more shocked. "I want to take you out to dinner. We can discuss your apprenticeship under me over the meal."
"What?" You say. Was this true?
"I'd like you to be my apprentice again," he restates. "And I'd like to discuss it over dinner." He still has you caught in your shocked position so he says "I'll let you decide. If you don't meet me in front of the hotel in an hour, I'll assume you do not wish to continue working together." He turns and leaves the room before you even say anything. You exit his room in a fogged state, where you then recap everything to your roommates. By now, Felici, Daeny, and Merrit are all there and your five roommates have their own input about the situation.
"Totally go out with him!" Felici says. "He's basically asking you on a date!"
"Dude, he's like way older than (Name)!" Shouts Collin. "He's probably asking you for a proper interview, (Name)."
Felici sighs. "Collin, I already told you, I'm a dudette today."
Rina shakes her head. "Felici, chill." She turns to you. "I would say no. After way he treated you?"
"Maybe he's come around and realize our good friend (Name) here is actually the perfect apprentice," Merrit says. "But if he starts shouting at you, call me and I'll punch him in the nose for you." She balls up a fist and thrusts it through thin air.
You smile a little. "Merrit, you want to beat up someone way too much." You look over at Daeny, who is twirling his long hair. Daeny is the transgender one of your group and though it took a while to convince the Empire to let him join for his sexuality (why did it matter anyway?), they gave in.
Daeny shrugs. "Personally, I'd reject it. But the decision is up to you."
Now all five of your roommates are staring at you intensely. They all have wasted their breath for the past half hour arguing over whether you should say yes or not. Now they want to know what your decision is. And you have to make it fast. You only have fifteen minutes before you're supposed to meet him. So you say "I'll give him one more chance. If he screws up, I'll end the whole thing. And yes, Merrit. You can give him a punch in the face then." Merrit grins evilly.
Felici is the biggest supporter of this decision. "You go for it!" She says. You wash up and chang into your best uniform. Within ten minutes you're ready. You don't intend to screw up your side of this agreement. You just hope Krennic won't screw up his end.
You walk down to the front of the hotel. Krennic is already there waiting. He isn't wearing his uniform. He's wearing a plaid shirt and black jeans. You can't help but raise your eyebrow at this choice of his. He looks at you and hums. "I suppose we had two different meeting formalities in our heads."
"I would have worn something more casual if you had told me," You say, the words passing off your lips a little cooler than you were happy with.
Krennic's eyes drill into yours. "No need to start off on the wrong foot. I only have one question before we go. Should I continue to refer to you as Private (L/Name) for the night?"
You're hesitant about this. What was he planning? Was he trying to toy with your emotions? If that was the case, you might as well play with his. "We can go by friendly terms. (Name) is fine. Now what about you? Do I still call you Director Krennic?"
"I prefer you say my first name, Orson." He has one of those mischievous looks on his face and he's not even smiling. "Let's go." He turns and starts walking. With a sigh, you follow. You begin to wonder if Felici was right. Was this more of a date?
