Sight Seeing Gone Wrong

"Okay, you guys have another concert tonight," Charles explains to Shawn and I. We're sitting in the lobby now listening to a bunch of rules for going outside. Yesterday was our first tour performance, and now we have a chance to look around Indiana. "You are allowed to go sightseeing today, but you have to be back by six tonight." I look down at my phone. It's two right now.

"Okay," I agree. "But can we borrow a rental car?"

"Sure, but be careful," Angela agrees before handing Shawn the keys.

"We will," Shawn promises. When we get outside of the hotel, he turns to me. "Where do you want to go to?"

"Hmm," I think for a moment. "I've heard that their museum here is pretty cool. The Indianapolis Children's Museum. We could go there."

"Taking in the fact that it has the word 'children' in it, it sounds like it'll have some childish stuff there. LET'S GO!" ️he cheers. "Can you tell me the directions? You can just use your GPS."

"Pshh, I can just use a map," I laugh. "I'm great at directions."

"Are you sure?" Shawn asks, raising his eyebrows. "No offense, but you don't seem like someone who reads directions a lot."

"I can do it," I repeat but I giggle at his unsureness. "I've done it before."

"Okay," he finally gives in. "Just pay close attention to the map. Don't get us lost."

"WOW, I SEE HOW MUCH FAITH YOU HAVE IN ME!" I jokingly yell while getting into the car.

Shawn chuckles while getting into the drivers seat. "Okay. Where do I go to first?"

I take the map that is in the rental car and then read out the first turn we have to make. He nods and then turns, following my directions.

***

Two hours later, our car slows down to a stop in the middle of nowhere.

"Where are we?" Shawn asks while looking around.

"I donno," I answer truthfully while looking out of the window at the sight around us, which isn't much. We just stopped in the middle of the country. "But why did the car stop?"

"Let's go check," he offers and I nod.

We get out and then Shawn walks to the front of the car and pulls open the hood. A bunch of smoke comes pouring out as he starts coughing and waving the smoke away with his hand.

After about ten minutes of checking the car, Shawn sighs and pulls away. "I don't see anything unusual."

"Hold on," I stop while climbing back into the car and I see that the gas tank is empty. "Umm... We're out of gas..."

"Are you serious?" he gasps while running one of his hands through his hair. "This is great. Just great. And we don't even know where we're at. I told you that you should've just used your GPS."

"I told you all the directions right," I snap. "You just didn't follow them."

"Oh, so now it's my fault?" he spits out. "If you told me the right directions, we would have been there by now and we wouldn't have run out of gas and gotten stuck in the middle of nowhere."

I get quiet and then look at Shawn. "Sorry," I mumble. "I'll go look for a gas station or something."

I start to walk in a random direction, hoping to possibly find somewhere to get gas from. I hate fighting with anyone- it's horrible. But fighting with Shawn, that's even worse. There's just something about it. Maybe it's watching him go from his sweet self to being super mad or maybe it's just the fact that it's sucks fighting with someone you're in love with. The truth is that it's both.

I keep walking even though I hear Shawn running after me. "Lexie, wait!" he calls out. I ignore him and keep walking. "Please, let me talk to you!" I keep walking. I feel his hand wrap around mine as he tries to stop me. I snatch my hand free and keep going.

"Lexie, please," he groans while walking beside me. "I just wanted to apologize. I didn't mean to blow up and yell at you like that. I didn't mean to hurt you."

"Well that sucks because you did," I respond blankly, keeping my head looking straight forward and not making eye contact.

"How many times do I have to apologize?" he sighs.

"You tell me," I snap while turning towards him. "I know I don't always act like it, but I'm a sensitive person, and one thing that hits me every time is fighting. One person wins the glory of being right. The other one wins sorrow and loses their dignity. Shawn, you're the worst person to fight with. Fighting with someone you love is like getting stabbed with every word they say. And yes, maybe I'm over reacting, but I needed to tell you this so you know why I'm acting like how I am." Then with that, I turn my head back so I'm looking straight at where we're walking to.

"I understand," Shawn nods after a few seconds of silence. "I just got really mad and I blew up. I'm sorry. I really am. I never meant to hurt you, and I would never try to hurt you. You know that, right?"

I look into his dark brown eyes and sigh. "Yeah. I know."

"So are we okay?" he asks me.

"Yeah," I agree before Shawn pulls me into a hug. I clutch onto him for a few seconds before letting go. "So, are you coming with me to find gas?"

"Of course," he laughs. "I'll just leave the car there. No one would want to steal a car without gas anyway."

"True," I giggle while pulling out my phone. "It's four thirty right now. We have an hour and a half to get gas and drive back to the hotel."

"I think we should be able to get back in time because we did make a few bathroom stops on the way here, so as long as we don't stop we should make it in time," Shawn explains.

We keep walking for a few minutes and then I see a gas station. "OH MY GOSH!" I scream while sprinting towards the little station.

We walk into the gas station and up to the clerk.

"My car just broke down, is it possible to get a container of gas or something?" Shawn asks.

"Yeah," the man agrees while disappearing behind his desk. A few seconds later he re-appears with two containers filled with gas. Who keeps gas under their desk..

Shawn pays him and then we leave and head back to the car.

"We have an hour and five minutes left!" I remind him as he fills our car back up with gas. We ran back to the car, but it still took awhile.

"Alright, let's go!" Shawn exclaims while shutting the gas tank and then jumping into the car. I get into the passenger seats and then we speed off using my phones GPS.

"Wait, Shawn," I laugh nervously. "If having no gas in the car was the problem, why was the car smoking?"

"I have no idea," he chuckles.

"Wow, we're so safe," I roll my eyes. "We're driving on a deserted rode with a car that's smoking."

"It won't break down again," Shawn laughs.

"You better knock on wood," I giggle.

"Or something hollow," he smirks while knocking on my head.

***

We arrive at the hotel at six ten and then burst through the doors to find Angela and Charles impatiently waiting.

"YOU HAVE A QUICK FLIGHT OVER TO MINNESOTA!" Angela paces before shoving us back out of the hotel and into another car.

"Your crap is in the back of the car," Charles explains to us while driving towards the airport. "Now you two better grab your stuff, go through security, and then go straight to your plane gate. You hear me?"

"Yes," I roll my eyes.

***

"You're lucky you made your flight," Angela scoffs. "Now we're going straight to a show. There is a crew that'll hand you an outfit and do your hair and makeup tonight. It'll be faster then it would be if you did it yourself."

"Ugh, alright," Shawn groans.

When we arrive at the arena, the security guards take us away to a room full of outfits.

"Here you go," a pretty girl smiles at me. "The changing room is over there. Come back here when your done." Then she hands me my clothes.

I walk over to the changing room and get changed into a black summer dress that has daisies all over it. Then I throw on the brown cowboy boots that were with it.

"I'm Ella by the way," the girl exclaims when I come back. "Now, for your hair and makeup. I was thinking about just leaving your hair natural because it's really curly, but possibly pinning a few pieces back. Then for your makeup, maybe we could just do winged eyeliner, cranberry colored lipstick, and maybe a some sort of eye shadow?"

"That sounds great," I agree as she starts to help me get ready.

For once Angela and Charles were right- it did take a lot less time then it would have if I did my own makeup and hair.

"Thank you," I grin while giving Ella a big hug.

"No problem! Break a leg!" she shouts out to me as I go looking for Shawn.

When I find him, his styler is just fixing his shirt a little bit. Shawn looks really nice, but I mean he always does. But he looks really nice today.

"Hey," I exclaim while walking up to him. "Ready to perform?"

"Yeah!" he agrees as the stylist gives him a thumbs up, signaling he's free to go now.

We both grab our guitars and then run on stage. The crowd goes wild, you could just feel all of the happiness and excitement in the air.

"Who's ready for some music Minnesota!?" I yell into the microphone and everybody screams in response.

I move the microphone away from my mouth and turn towards Shawn so he can only hear me. "Tonight is going to be a great show."
