Chapter 2 - The Journey There
The journey to Kings Cross Station was a relatively short and happy one. Mr Weasley was driving and a worried Mrs Weasley was giving directions from the passenger seat.
Elsie sat in the middle of the car, in between Ginny and Percy. Thus leaving the twins, Ron and Harry to squeeze in at the back. In the boot of their Ford Anglia were all of their belongings. The luggage had just about been able to fit, what with six Weasley children enrolled at the school and none of them packing light.
The two girls were also getting pet owls. By a lucky chance of circumstance, Arthur had acquired two off of an old friend who did not want them anymore. He was going to give them their owls when they arrived.
On the way to the train station everyone laughed and joked, but even with all of the merriment going on, Elsie still had worry deep in the pit of her stomach. She just wanted to get to Hogwarts; be sorted into Gryffindor and then she could relax.
Once they arrived at Kings Cross, the children grabbed a trolley each and began loading their baggage onto them. Before Ginny and Elsie could get their trunks, their parents presented both of them with their surprise pets. They were delighted! They had each received a Scops Owl. Ginny named her female owl Owlvira and Elsie named her male owl Owlvin.
"Now girls, there is only one catch with having these owls. The catch is this: the two owls have mated so they cannot be separated from each other. That shouldn't be a problem though, as you two will be sharing a dorm together" addressed Mr Weasley to the twins. This made Elsie nervous. What would happen to the owls if she wasn't sorted into Gryffindor?
With this in mind, Elsie grabbed her things and walked into the train station. As she approached the barrier between Platforms nine and ten butterflies began fluttering in her stomach. She watched as Percy ran through the barrier first. Even though she knew you would go straight through she still held her breath each time someone ran. Fred and George went next. At long last it was their turn. Elsie and Ginny both exchanged a twin moment where they told each other in their own little way that everything would be okay. After their moment, they counted to three, ran at the wall and then they were there. They were on Platform 9 and 3¼s.
"Come on girls we'll get you a seat. Grab your overnight backpacks and your owl cages, then hand in your trunks to the porter." instructed Mrs Weasley, as she helped Elsie and Ginny get onto the train.
"Don't panic girls, you'll love it at Hogwarts. There's no need for you to worry!" Mr and Mrs Weasley shouted as the train began to pull away at dead on eleven o'clock. That was it then. They were finally on their way to Hogwarts. For a few minutes the girls sat in silence taking it all in, until an older girl opened the carriage door. "Hi, I'm Hermione Granger, I'm friends with Ron and Harry and I was wondering if you've seen them?" The girls looked at each other and shook their head. "They're probably in another compartment further up." said Elsie. So Hermione left and continued looking for them. Once Hermione had gone the girls began talking about what might have happened.
Before they could say anything else the door opened again and two other first years walked in. One was a girl with long, dirty blonde hair; silvery grey eyes and a fair complexion. The other was a boy with short, mousy brown hair; brown eyes and he too had a fair complexion. Once they had entered they introduced themselves. "Hi. I'm Luna. Luna Lovegood." said the girl, while she sat down next to Elsie. "I'm Colin Creevey." said the boy, as he went and sat down next to Ginny. The girls then introduced themselves. "I'm Elsie Weasley; her name is Ginny and we are twins just not identical!" exclaimed Elsie, hoping that they didn't comment something stupid. Ginny gave Elsie a sideways glance at this outburst but said nothing, mentally reminding herself to talk to her about it later, Luna and Colin did not say anything stupid. Instead, they commented on how awesome it must be to be twins and how they wished they were twins. The four soon became fast friends while they asked about each other.
After a couple of hours had passed, the trolley lady arrived asking if anyone wanted anything. "Anything from the trolley! Anything from the trolley dears?" Elsie and Ginny politely declined gesturing to the sandwiches that their mum had given them. Luna and Colin took pity on the twins and bought a ton of sweets, which the four shared throughout the remainder of the journey.
As they drew closer to Hogwarts, Elsie reminded Ginny that they needed to get changed into their school robes. The other two were already dressed so they stayed in the carriage. On the way to the toilets they ran into Hermione again. "I can't find Ron and Harry anywhere. I've checked every compartment!" Hermione informed the twins, while on the verge of tears. "Thanks for telling us Hermione. We'll keep a lookout for them." replied Ginny while she nudged Elsie to respond. All Elsie could do was nod her head. She was worried enough without her brother and her brother's best friend being missing.
After their encounter with Hermione, they reached the toilets and changed into their robes. With their school robes on, the two girls began to make their way back to the carriage when they heard shouting. At the sound of the cries, the twins sprinted to the source. Once they reached the compartment they asked what was wrong. Luna told them to look out of the window. So they peered out of the window to see a Ford Anglia doing loop-de-loops beside the Hogwarts Express. "Looks like we found them!" Elsie stated, as she watched the car zoom past. "One things for certain, replied Ginny, when Mum finds out Ron is dead." Way to stay positive thought Elsie. "At least they're safe, sort of." she retorted. The car soon disappeared from sight and shortly after the excitement had died down, the train pulled into the station at Hogsmeade.
The four gathered their possessions and got out of the train. Once they were on the platform, they heard a booming voice shouting: "First years over here. First years to me. Don't be shy now!" Elsie rightly assumed that that voice belonged to Hagrid. He was the groundskeeper at Hogwarts and also a friend of Harry, Ron and Hermione. So the quartet walked over to where Hagrid was standing. In front of them was a few boats and the vast Black Lake. The groundskeeper instructed the first years to get into groups of four. Naturally, Colin, Elsie, Ginny and Luna grouped up and began to board the boat closest to them.
Once everyone was in their boats, they began to sail across the lake, all by themselves to Hogwarts. The view was breath-taking. All around her, Elsie could hear gasps of oohs and aahs and that helped to relax her. Until they arrived at the other side. Then she felt butterflies in her stomach once more.
After the boats were evacuated, Hagrid led them inside where they were greeted by Professor Minerva McGonagall; Transfiguration teacher and head of Gryffindor house. "Welcome to Hogwarts! Now in a few moments you will pass through these doors and join your classmates but before you can take your seats you must be sorted into your houses. They are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Now while you're here your house will be like your family. Your triumphs will earn you points. Any rule-breaking and you will lose points. At the end of the year the house with the most points is awarded the House Cup. The Sorting Ceremony will begin momentarily." She then disappeared through the doors and everyone began talking. Elsie was so nervous she felt like she would be sick at any moment. The professor soon reappeared and everyone fell silent as she uttered: "We're ready for you now. Follow me!" The students followed her into the Great Hall where their futures at Hogwarts were about to begin.
Authors Note:
I have updated! At last. I apologize for not updating sooner. Everything and anything that could go wrong did. I had more technical difficulties. It was half term and I had my room redecorated. But also I had no motivation to update. There has been a lot of nasty business happening at my school that then involved my Wattpad. But moving on from the negatives, we have reached two hundred reads! How exciting. I am so happy that you Sassy Pixies have been enjoying my fanfiction. Now that my life has been sorted out, you can expect more frequent posting. I am going to start uploading some of my other works too so look forward to that. Once again I'm sorry for the late upload.
