CHAPTER 30
One of the peaks of living in an empty castle is that you would easily hear the clicks of angry heels storming down the hallways. I watched the candle lights flicker as my aide sat in my study nervously while I waited for the storm to break loose.
No wonder people name storms after women.
The door of my study slammed open, which I like to believe was done by magic. And I was correct as Lady Evanora Esmeray walked in clutching the mine transfer papers in one hand and a glowing spell circle in the other. There was a slight glow on her eyes that I didn't see before, I wonder if it's because she is doing magic.
The black and grey mermaid tail dress with a sweetheart neckline and fluffy sleeves seems to be glittering around her. Her hair was pinned up and she was wearing a black pillbox hat with a veil.
The only way to describe her right now would be,
Someone's fantasy or someone's nightmare.
And judging her anger, she might become my nightmare.
"What is the meaning of this!" She yelled as my aide seemed like he lost three of his lives out of nine. I couldn't help but laugh.
She stared at me completely baffled as if she wasn't expecting me to laugh.
"Sir Declan, leave us." I said as my aide got up and bowed to me and to Lady Esmeray before he left like Lady Esmeray eyed him as if he was an alien.
After Sir Declan walked out, Lady Esmeray dropped her spell circle. She was glaring at me and wasn't even attempting to hide it. Unlike last time, she wasn't even bothering this time.
Her heels clicked against the wooden floor as she walked towards the mahogany desk I was sitting behind.
"Honestly, you might be the first noble to storm into the study of a Crown Prince." I say as I lean against my chair.
"Well pardon me because I can't seem to control myself after the stunt you pulled on me." She slammed the transfer papers on my desk in front of me.
"Explain this right now!" She hissed.
"Well I must say Lady Esmeray you are really bold." I said as I took the papers in my hands, and stared up at her fuming expression.
"You do realise that I could get you executed for trespassing royal grounds." I said and she froze...
Don't tell me she didn't think this through before she stormed in here?
"First of all, I have the royal pass from the Empress!" She said as a light shade of pink dusted her cheeks.
"Then we can consider the fact you are trespassing on my palace grounds, not the Empress." I set the papers down. "And as the occupier of this place, I have no liability to a stranger, which makes this trespassing."
"Oh?" She tilted her head but anger seemed to glimmer in her eyes. "How about the liability of causing utter chaos in the Esmeray Duchy by sending these stupid papers."
"My my, don't hurt me like that. This stupid little thing is very expensive." I mockingly held up the papers in front of her face.
"Everyone assumed that your highness is courting me and grandfather is now attempting to set a formal meeting for the engagement!" Lady Esmeray fumed, but that made my aloof expression slip away.
"Courting?" I asked, dumbfounded.
"Yes, courting!" She hissed as she pulled the chair in front of her and sat down.
"There is no way a man would suddenly send such an expensive gift otherwise," She muttered under her breath as I gawked at her.
That turned 360 degrees really quick.
"I explain that it's because of the fact I healed you but grandfather won't budge while father is fuming." she said as I could feel her subtle glare on my face.
"Well I basically sent that to get your attention as you were ignoring my letters, another reason I could get you executed." I corrected her.
"I wasn't ignoring, and you send letters again and again everyday hence you didn't really mind, right?" She stated as I raised an eyebrow at her.
"Well I guess I really didn't mind," I chuckled.
"But that still doesn't change the chaos you have created." She said,
"Would you like me to clear the misunderstanding?" I asked as she sighed.
"Grandfather will assume you are being threatened by father, but I would like you to take this diamond mine back." She stared at me with determination burning in her eyes, that she will make me take the mine back, one way or another.
I will never.
I smirked as I got up from my chair, my robes swirling around me as I walked away from the desk to another corner of the room and prepared some tea on the magic heating pots. I prepared the tea and set it down on the tea table and poured it into two cups as I sat down on the sofa. Lady Esmeray got up from her place in front of the desk and sat across from me on the sofa.
"This is a serious matter!" she said as I calmly took my tea cup and sipped it, while Lady Esmeray's tea laid untouched. "You need to take it back."
"Hm, I could take it back." I pretended to be thinking about this 'serious' matter. "But there is a condition."
"Condition?" Her voice had underlined caution. "What condition?"
"Go on a trip with me to the capitol square." I said simply.
"What?" her wide gem-like stared back at mine. Those criminally pretty eyes.
"A trip to the capitol square." I repeated myself.
"What's the clause?" She asked.
"Nothing, there is no clause or anything." I said as I finished my tea.
"Just a trip? That's it?" She asked as she couldn't believe me. Makes me wonder what she is thinking about me in her head. Nothing good if she is asking so many times. I nod at her to confirm it.
"Feel free to choose a date you are comfortable with, but it must be within this year." I stated.
"And if I don't?" She asked, making the smirk return to my face.
"Are you really asking Lady Esmeray? I have been really kind tonight." I set the tea cup down on its saucer. Lady Esmeray looked away avoiding my eyes, I couldn't help but shake my head at that and let out a silent laugh.
"That's it?" She asked to which I again nodded.
She awkwardly looked around the study for a while as if she was trying to memorise all those to memory, before she got up elegantly and gathered the transfer papers and walked to the doors of the study.
She stopped and turned towards me.
"And it wasn't trespassing, since your letter was an invitation for me to come here." She said, "You don't have any grounds to execute me."
"Good night, your highness." She curtsy.
She said that and left the study, but I couldn't help but laugh at that woman. No matter how many aristocrats I have associated with in this short time, I can't help but find her intriguing.
I may be the bane of her existence,
But Lady Evanora Esmeray is the object of my curiosity.
