CHAPTER 18

"Please! I beg you!"

"Please spare me, I have kids!"

"I don't care if you are reproductive or not." I spat as the man on his knees just stared at him.

"The crimes you have committed are enough for me to kill you at sight. Yet I spared you a few seconds." I said, looking at the man with a face filled with disgust.

"Killing magical creatures, and selling their soul stone. Making illegal magic stones from forbidden magic. And most of the stones are not even finished, and explode when used once." I said I was still disgusted.

"Please Miss Matriarch!" he begged, but time was up. I flicked my finger as the glowing sword which was hovering over my head flew straight into his heart as he spat out blood. I snapped my fingers as the glowing sword dissolved into thin air as the corpse of the man fell on the ground.

"I think that's all," I sighed. The moon light shone over me as I walked the ground filled with corpses and blood. Today's work finished here. After freeing all the captured magical creatures, I made my way back to the tower to report to the head magician Zaven Reamann.

It's been six months.

Six months since I became Evanora Esmeray. Many things happened in the past six months and many things changed. The family which was my death flag, now has family dinners with me every night like it's the most normal thing. Yes, I succeeded to get the duke on my side. Not only the duke, brother Orion, brother Kaven, and almost half of the members of the duchy.

Of course, the rest of the half hates me. But who cares, it was more enjoyable to hangout with Orion and Kaven then think about death flags.

Of course, I had gotten closer to the daughters of duke Adarlan. As Asterin is titled as the princess, she couldn't take the duke's successor's title which automatically passed the title to Catherine. The little girl sends me letters everyday about how hard the successor lessons are. I get to meet two of them at tea parties, banquet, but other than that we visit each other, I have stayed at the Adarlan duchy whenever I went to Sluuhwell for work. Duke Adarlan was probably the funniest person to chat with while Duchess Adarlan was the woman of elegance. She even helped me fix my mistakes in manners and etiquette. And trust me there were a lot of mistakes.

Asterin and I got closer as both of us realised we were interested in books and to be more specific we were interested in romance novels which most aristocratic families don't allow.

The first night with the duke, The tyrant's love, The magician and the princess, Forbidden love of the Empress full collection, The perfumer's secret and the list goes on and on.

After 3 months of intense lessons, training and courses under the Marquess, I managed to complete my studies, graduate from the tower, get the title of Matriarch of illusions and became a legal magician who had the permission to practise magic. And right after graduating, I started working under the marquess. Of course, we were investigating various places over Alastaria looking for black magic but it was hard to track so our investigation didn't go much but we did find a lot scambags like this who did illegal use of magic and sold soul stones. Human trafficking was also found. And for this I easily got accustomed to killing and corpses. Or probably I was the villainess which made things easy.

Though at the beginning I threw up at the sight of blood and corpses, I got used to it. And after that the marquess sent me on solo missions while he investigated other stuff. And like that things got easier.

Of course, criminals who practise magic are hard to be kept in the prisons or dungeons, even if the prison is graded with a magic barrier there are many ways they can escape, so for those criminals, magician's like me and the marquess have imperial permission to kill.

My plan on living a quiet life failed. There was no one in Alastria who doesn't know my name now, not because Evanora was the pretty villaines, but because I am a strong mage! Of course, I have shown off about it alot.

Six months have passed, life has been great so far. No more death flags, no marriage.

"Ew, I stink." I asked as I looked at my blood covered self. But as I didn't have much mana left I couldn't even clean myself with magic.

"Ah, this is probably Karma!" I cursed as I teleported myself back to the tower with my remaining mana.

Teleporting myself even though I didn't have much mana, it was risky. Well, if the coordinates of a teleportation spell is not right, I might free fall from the sky, which I did more than 10 times. And other times, one might leave back their body parts. Of course, using teleportation coins is easier but casting the incomplete spell might cause some parts of the body not to teleport. One might have a missing kidney, or a missing ear or arm. But thankfully I didn't go through that misery. And for being the marquess student, I learned everything the hard way, which is why now in some cases basic spells turned into non verbal for me, and intermediate spells can be casted just by a flick of my hand or finger. If I am in danger, defensive spells get activated on it's own. But all these skills of mine are nothing compared to the marquess even though his heart is sealed. And throughout these six months I learned to admire this indifferent teacher of mine.

"Sir Zaven! I am back!" I chipped as I entered the head magician's office.

"Welcome back, shouldn't you go home." a worn out Marquess got up from his chair.

"What happened to you?" I asked as I flopped down on the couch.

"The Empress," he replied.

"What about her?" I asked.

"She has been summorning you for an hour now." he said as I just sighed.

After I became an independent magician with a legal licence to practise magic, the empress has been calling me at the imperial castle many times. Also has sent me an invitation to become her lady in waiting for at least 15 times in 3 months. But thankfully it was an invitation not an order. And for all this she has one reason. Only one reason, Evanora is pretty. It won't be exaggerating if Evanora is called the prettiest girl in all of Alastaria. Though it doesn't help me anyway as this beauty attracts nothing but trouble. Though endless proposals that Dad feeds the fire everyday, and the empress' continuous summorning.

"Do you have a coin I can use to go to the royal palace?" I asked as Sir Zaven looked at me confused.

"Why do you want a coin?" he asked as I just sighed.

"I feel like if I do another teleportation spell, I will leave half of my body here." I answered as the Marquess sighed.

"You could have just ignored the summoning." he said as he handed me a teleportation coin.

"Also, it is one sided. After you go to the palace, take permission from the Empress and take some rest before you teleport back home. And take a few days off." he said, brushing off his long white robes, which matched his white hair and grey eyes behind the round spectacles.

"Then I will be leaving now." I said as I flipped the coin. Light glowed from the spell circle, teleporting me from the bright and spacious head magician's study to the front door of the empress' palace in the cold night.

"Announce my arrival to the Empress." I glared at the guards who hicced and quickly rushed away.

"Jeez, are they even capable of being guard if they are merely scared of me." I sighed as I dragged myself into the empress palace. The Empress's lady in waiting greeted me but it seemed like their blood drained away from their face when they saw me. What is up with the empress palace stuff today. As the guard announced the empress' arrival I bowed down to greet her.

"I greet the shining moon of the empire, Empress Rexa-"

"Oh my goodness! What happened to you Evanora!?"

What?
