CHAPTER 16

Of course, as I had no plans of staying over at the tower for 3 whole weeks, it made a worried duke, his son and his butler bombard me with questions. After explaining the situation of how I finish half of a year's course in 3 weeks, I got some space to breathe.

A relaxing bath, a full body massage from Veri, some real food instead of energy potions and a good night of sleep got me back into shape by the second day of my break. As I figured it was really odd to practise magic in front of people, even though I have done that twice, I asked Josep to find me an empty room where I can practise magic all by my own. At night when everyone falls asleep I sneak out and practise magic on my own. As I don't necessarily use any spell to destroy anything, no one noticed that I practise on my own in the middle of the night. And today was no different in particular.

I woke up in the middle of the night, and made my way to the empty room. It was on the 3 floor, placed in the middle between rooms and studies. 3 of the 4 sides of the room had walls while one side had large windows from the floor to the ceiling having a wonderful view of the night sky. I grabbed a few books placed on the table and dragged myself to the empty room. Still not used to the mansion, I wandered around, getting lost somewhere around the mansion in the cold night was a really bad nightmare that can happen right now. But fortunately I found the room.

I dragged myself to the middle of the room and sat down on the floor with the books. Taking a deep breath. I channelled the mana throughout my body. By now I could control mana and make it work and channel it into spells.

The light coming inside from the enormous windows and giant glass balcony door, lighted the whole room in beautiful silver light. It was easy to see everything in that light. I looked at the books. I took one of the books and flipped from pages to pages until something caught my eye. I looked at the page and read it thoroughly. Finally after placing the book down. I cupped both of my hands together

"Illumiiatis," I whispered the spell, which came out of my lips effortlessly as a beautiful golden geometric spell circle glowed over my hands. Tiny balls of light like fireflies came out of the glowing circle and started floating around the room, filling the room with beautiful glowing light.

"Beautiful," I said with a smile and watched the light balls floating around. I looked around the room which was now filled with golden light. As if I was surrounded by thousands of fireflies. I was amazed at myself.

"People out there use magic to kill, but if you look at it and admire it isn't not scary or something that should be used to kill." I smiled, staring at the light balls. "It's just so pretty."

My heart felt heavy, the heaviness didn't feel right. But why? I am the villain of this story. Why am I here? Why as a villainess? Why do people care how villainess feels?

The image of the duke, Orion, Josep, Veri and Emily flashed in front of me.

"Why do you care?" I blurted out as my dark hair hid my face. "Why do you care about the villainess?"

But in the empty room no one gave me an answer. Won't they be disappointed when I turn into villainess later in the story. Won't they watch me get hanged. But why does it hurt so much when I think about them moving away when I am turned into a villainess. Why is my heart heavy? Why does it hurt?

Without realising I started crying silently on the floor. I wasn't aware how long it has been since I was in this room, it was somehow peaceful to be crying with glowing magic light around.

The door of the room opened as I flinched and turned to check who it was. The Duke, Orion and brother Kaven were standing at the doorstep of the room. As far as I remember, my brother Kaven was at the capital when I came back from the tower. But now as he looked like he just came from an important meeting with the aristocrats, I assumed that he just came back home from the capital.

"What's going on..." the words trail away as he sees the glowing light around the room. Kaven was stunned as well.

"It's Eva's magic!" Orion was the first one to answer as he looked around the room happily.

"You did this?" Kaven asked in complete astonishment as all three of them walked inside the room and looked around. Orion dragged Kaven and showed him different light balls though all of them looked the same. I felt a hand on my head, patting me. I looked up and saw the Duke looking around the room walking the lights and his sons goofing off.

"It's beautiful Eva," he said with a gentle smile. Tears formed once again in my eyes as I looked away trying to get rid of them. This is different. This feeling is different. The pain and heaviness is gone but it's different.

"Oi! Are you crying?" Orion, who was quick to notice, was now in front of me on the floor, brushing away the tears with his thumbs as he cupped my face.

"Which one of the rascals made you cry in the middle of the night....with a magic ball flying around?" Orion looked at me with a judging look. "Who on earth cries with magic balls flying around?"

"That's definitely not how you comfort someone." the duke chuckled and now all 4 of us were on the floor sitting in a circle.

"Why do you care?" I asked without thinking about my actions. "Why do you care about the villainess?"

The duke's face had a surprised yet dark expression and Kaven just looked at me with an indifferent yet surprised face. But Orion was the first one to respond or react. Orion chuckled as he squeezed me into a hug.

"Villainess or not, you are my sister. And I will always care about my sister." he said as the glowing lights made his brownish hair look more red as his eyes glowed along with his wide smile.

I just stared at him for a few seconds and then burst into tears. I had no control over my emotions or my actions and I didn't care either.

"You can go around saying something like that!" I cried more. As the duke and Kaven got worked up and tried to calm me down as I started hitting Orion.

"Ow! Should I be saying sorry? Ow! Not there, my shoulder is sore! Ow!" Orion complained as I continued hitting him. Kaven gave up at one point and just sat back and watched me hit Orion while the duke just chuckled.

This is not a novel, not a book. Orion and Kaven flipped around the books asking me to do different spells. This never happened in the real novel. But everything was real in this world, the people and their feelings. They feel love, they feel sorrow, they feel it all. They are not the characters from a novel who hurt Evanora Esmeray and made her a villainess. The family Evanora wanted so much wasn't that far away from her. With a little effort from both the sides, maybe, just maybe Evanora would have never turned into a villainess. Orion would have never been killed. And this would be a happy family.

...

The next morning, all of us were either drowsy or sleeping until the middle of the day. The only one unaffected was the Duke who did his office work like he didn't stay up all night. As Kaven travelled all the way from the capital and then stayed up all night instead of resting slept the whole day. Well, he needed it. And both me and Orion at least felt till midday or till lunch. And of course from that day, Orion called me for the smallest thing to get it done with magic. To fix a broken quil, to help him with the paperwork Kaven told me to do (Kaven scolded him for that), to make things float for no reason. Honestly it was an abuse of magic.

And other than that I often got called at the training grounds by brother Kaven as the knights got injured while training a lot. Well, at least healing the knights was better than doing magic for Orion who calls me for no reason.

"Can I turn Orion into a monkey?" I asked Kaven when I healed a knight.

"Sure do. Call me when you do it." Kaven replied.

And like that my one week of break passed away in a blink of an eye.
