CHAPTER 13

"I am sorry?" I said I didn't know how to reply. "Everything happened so quickly I didn't even notice that the blade tore the skin of my neck."

Orion huffed and turned away from me like a 5 year old kid, as the Duke begged me through his eyes to do something to Orion's sulking mood. Good god, give me strength. I signalled Veri to come to me. Whispering something in her ears, she nodded as soon she understood me.

Grabbing a small piece of paper from the study table and a quill and ink, she walked back to me and placed everything in front of me. Taking the quill, I scribbled down 'I am sorry' in their language. If I wrote it in english they would probably look at me like I have finally lost the last piece of memory. But thanks to Evanora's habits, skills, and knowledgeable memories come great help in time like this.

As soon as I took the piece of paper in my hands I whispered "Scoretus." The paper folded in self into an origami butterfly and started flying towards Orion. Orion jumped as soon as the butterfly sat on his nose. He grabbed it by his hands, the paper unfolded itself, making the text visible to his eyes.

Mumbling and grumbling Orion folded the paper neatly and slipped it into his pocket as he walked out of the room.

"Do you think it worked, dad?" I asked as I watched Orion leave.

"It did," the duke cracked into a smile as Kaven suppressed himself from not laughing.

"Well, Lady Asterin and Lady Catherine were really worried when you collapsed like that. So we will take our leave now, enjoy your time and rest." The duke smiled at both the ladies and patted them on the head before he left the room with Kaven. Wow, they seem close.

"I am sorry for greeting guests in the bedroom like this," I said as soon as both the Esmerays left the room.

"We don't mind it at all, Lady Evanora. What is most important is your fast recovery." Lady Asterin smiled as both of them sat down on the chairs placed beside my bed.

"You are very kind, Lady Asterin." I smiled at them.

"We were really shocked when Lady Evanora lost consciousness. Well, the doctor said it was because of the dirty rusted sword that infected you. But gladly it was nothing too serious." Lady Asterin explained the situation as I smiled warmly at them.

"Oh, Sir Orion also explained the situation of your amnesia." Lady Catherine added as I nodded my head.

"Did the doctor check your condition as well? You must get yourself checked-" I was cut off by lady Asterin who replied warmly to my worry.

"We did, Duke Esmeray wouldn't let us off unless we let the doctor check if we are fine." Lady Asterin giggled as both me and Lady Catherine let out a smile. After a moment of silence passed us, Lady Catherine broke the ice.

"Honestly, when we saw you at the annual royal ball and banquets it always seemed like Lady Evanora was so hard to approach. As cold as ice, and mysterious as the night sky. But when lady Evanora approached us with a warm smile, it felt like the cold winter melted away." Lady Catherine spoke politely, fidgeting with her finger on her lap.

"Is that so?" I asked calmly. It's no surprise that Evanora didn't have friends because of her cold personality. But she didn't like going out much so she mostly stayed in the mansion and attended most tea parties within Eythin.

"I am sorry for my behaviour in the past, I am trying my best to redeem myself." I smiled apologetically at them.

"No! No! You don't have to apologise! Though it was hard to approach you, it was something I admired. The majestic vibe of you, how you ignored everyone and always been yourself was so cool!" Lady Catherine cheered as I stared at the excited redhead with a sweat drop.

"We don't have many friends either." Lady Catherine pouted and continued speaking. "Sister most hung out with Sir Orion and Sir Kaven. Other than your brothers, she was mostly with Prince Derek and his highness the crown prince."

"It's not my fault most noble ladies at our age are boring." Lady Asterin mumbled as I chuckled at the siblings.

"I will agree with lady Asterin on that one, all they can do is spread rumours and gossip about all single noble men." I said and let out a sigh.

"Then what do you think about friends, Lady Evanora?" Lady Catherine asked me with curious young eyes.

"Well, I don't know what to say, as I don't have friends myself." I awkwardly laughed.

"Then let's be friends." Lady Asterin suggested as she looked back at me warmly.

"What can be cooler than having a magician friend." Lady Asterin said. But I couldn't give Lady Asterin an answer as my body froze. There was a huge difference between me and Evanora, yet it was so easy for me to adapt to this life. While, I walked around with bruises, choosing between education and food. Evanora lived a life of complete luxury. Even if her family couldn't express their emotions for her perfect created misunderstandings. Her life was still better. But now, I am trying to turn things around. Winning the duke's favour, smiling with Orion and Kaven. Will I be too greedy if I ask for friends?

"Lady Evanora...?" Lady Asterin called as I woke up from my thoughts.

"As long as you are okay with it." I smiled and replied with hesitation. Who is okay with being friends with a villainess? It's all nonsense.

"Oh my god! Really?" Lady Catherine jumped from her chair and hugged me, catching me completely off guard. My eyes turned as big as saucers.

"Catherine! It's rude to touch someone carelessly." Lady Asterin scolded Lady Catherine as I quickly shook my head.

"It's fine, I don't mind it at all." I smiled. This was the first time I have hugged someone for being reincarnated. It felt nice and warm.

"Well, now that we are friends. Why don't you call me Evanora." I said after Lady Catherine let go of me.

"Then you can do the same for us, Evanora." Asterin and laughing about how odd it felt. After laughing for quite long and chatting around many topics the night fell darker, until it was time for all of us to get some sleep. Saying goodnight to each other we parted.

...

The next morning, the carriage and knights were ready for Asterin and Catherine to return home safely. I also walked out of the mansion to see them off. Of course, I still felt weak, so I just wore a shawl over my comfortable gown.

"I will make sure to write you a letter after I reach home." Asterin said as I smiled at her.

"That will be great Asterin. I will be waiting for it." I replied. After both of them waved at us and got inside the carriage, we watched them under the carriage leaving the duchy ground.

"Looks like you got close to Duke Adarlan daughters." the duke who was standing behind me spoke.

"Well, you didn't tell me you were close to them either." I fired back as the duke chuckled.

"I guess then we were even." Duke said. "I should pay that old man a visit."

"Duke Adarlan?" I asked, to which he nodded.

"We are pretty old pals." he chuckled looking back at his memories with Duke Adarlan. "You shouldn't stay out long while dressing too lightly. Come on, let's go inside."

With that, the four of us and Josep walked inside the mansion once again.
