CHAPTER 10

"Jeez don't tell me I have to see his ugly face for the rest of the journey." I intentionally whispered loudly.

"Did you just call me ugly?" I heard his hiss. Ah, such good entertainment!

"Well, I won't be calling myself ugly will I?" I smiled. Now get annoyed enough to leave me alone and not show your face to me again.

"Why you-" Orion just hissed at me. After all he wanted to come with me on his own so he needs to endure the torture.

"No wonder you are not popular~" I chuckled.

"As if you are pretty popular?" he shot back, but I just smiled at him.

"Well, I did receive 143 marriage proposals." I shot back, and bullseye! His face distorted in anger.

"So you aren't engaged yet?" he asked.

"Among the 143 ones, none of them were perfect." I sighed.

"Oh really, was it because none of them were perfect or was it because they were not the crown prince Lucian?" he asked. And this time my face got distorted. Not in anger but in disgust.

Crown prince Lucian, my mortal enemy whom I hate with all my heart.

"Why will I wait for that piece of shit?" I yelled at him.

"Oh right, you forgot your memories." he muttered to himself.

"You don't like the crown prince?" he asked.

"Why should I like that shit?" I yelled.

"Lower your voice, we are outside and we can't curse at the imperial family like that." Orion hissed at me.

"So why do you hate him?" Orion asked oddly interested on the topic. In the novel it was never mentioned that Evanora liked the crown prince. Maybe it wasn't important as she got married to Cirillo anyways.

"Is there anything to like about him anyways!" I replied.

"Can't argue with that." he said as I nodded with him.

After that, me and Orion formed a truce for having mutual hatred for the crown prince.

...

The busy streets filled with all high class aristocats minding their own business. The marketplace and the shopping area for the high class nobles are one of the best places where rumours spread the most. Count's daughter's new boyfriend. The latest break up of the second son of Marquess McMillar. Commotion created at the Viscount's household. The crown prince is looking for a fiance. Baron's daughter pretending to be crazy and whatnot.

But today, the gossip was about something totally different as everyone's eyes were fixed on the blue and black carriage which stopped at the shopping area.

"Who can it be?"

"Looks like it's someone from wealthy house"

"Hey! It has Esmeray duchy's carriage, look at the black and blue design."

The carriage stopped as the knights got down and opened the door wide open for the people inside to step out. Orion Esmeray watched his step carefully as he got out of the carriage. He fixed his coat and turned around facing the carriage and extended his hand to help someone else down.

"Oh my god! It's the second son of Reuel Esmeray, Orion Esmeray! He looks as handsome as always, did he come back from the academy early?"

"Oh look! He is escorting someone! Can it be his girlfriend?"

"No way he is dating someone! Last year he danced at the ball with me, I am sure we had a thing!"

Everyone eager for the new gossip, watched excitedly as a black gloved hand of a female accepted Orion's hand as she carefully stepped down off the carriage maintaining her red and black dress. A woman in black hair and pale skin appeared out of the carriage. Turning around as she looked at the busy streets of the marketplace, her purple eyes shined under her long black lashes.

"That's the youngest child and the only daughter of Reuel Esmeray, Evanora Esmeray! The cruel lady of the Esmeray Ducal!"

...

"Why am I called the cruel lady? That's not a nice nickname." I frowned as Orion just laughed.

"Ha, who is popular now?" Orion shot back.

"Say's the one who doesn't have a fiance." I laughed.

"I just didn't find the perfect one yet!"

"Now you are just stealing my lines."

"This is not stealing! I am telling the truth!"

The carriage moved aways from the busy street, everyone's eyes followed us as we walked through the crowd. As this is my first outing as Evanora, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by the stares and glares sent by the crowd of nobles who were currently trying to act like they are not interested.

I sighed as I shook my head and followed Orion. A few knights followed us from behind, judging by their serious composure and nervous expressions, they were newbie's. And as Orion will be the second commander of the Esmeray knights, they couldn't help but feel scared.

"They are newbies aren't they?" I asked as I walked shoulder by shoulder with Orion.

"Yeah, you noticed? Are they that bad?" Orino asked back.

"No, it was easy to tell by their nervous expressions." I answered.

"Oh, well after they were hired they started as guard knights. But I checked a few days ago, and it seems like their sword-skills are really good, so I decided to put them into a different position instead of guard knight." Orion explained.

"I see, that's a good decision." I said, as I glared back at the girl who was glaring at me. I mean if I don't do that, I won't be Evanora Esmeray.

"I am glad," Orion smiled.

"So where are we going?" I asked.

"To wherever you are going," he said.

"I am the one suffering from amnesia, you idiot! I don't know where I am going!" I yelled at him.

"Aren't you gonna buy dresses?" Orion stopped and looked at me.

"No, I am here to buy books for the tower." I answered.

"The book shop is on the other side of the shopping area!" Orion facepalmed himself as he sighed in frustration.

"Don't sigh like that! I am the one wearing heels!" I yelled at him.

"You took classes to get used to wearing heels when you were a kid." he argued back.

"That changes nothing! Lead the way now, I wanna go home quickly." I sighed.

"Why?" Orion asked as he turned around and started leading the way again.

"I can't breathe." I replied.

"Why?" He asked again.

"The corset is too tight," I said.

Orion laughed, "Sucks to be you."

"Shut up!" I hissed.

After a long walk, both me and Orion , accompanied by the Knights, entered the biggest book shop in the shopping area. The walls of the bookshop were lined with books in bookshelves. Each shelf was titled with a different genre. History, Geography, Biography, Romance, you name it. The shopkeeper rushed towards us as he saw us enter his stop. The elder man was dressed well, with a kind look in his eyes. Judging by the size of the shop, the owner must be an aristocrat or a wealthy business man or merchant.

"Greetings! It's such a pressure to have the young master and the lady of the Esmeray house here today!" the elderly man said as he guided us in. "How may I help you?"

"Well, there are a few books we are looking for." I said as I handed him the list of the names of the book.

"It would be nice if you have any of the books from the list." I explained it to the shopkeeper.

"My lady, we have the books mentioned in the list. Would you like them all?" the elderly man asked.

"Yes," I replied.
