Returning back to Ireland, we now explore another iconic creature, the Banshee. A famous tale from the old days in Ireland, the Banshee is a famous urban legend about a female specter and her wail that warns of death.

The Banshee is a female being, sometimes described as a fairy and other times a spirit. As a spirit she is said to be the ghost of a woman who died while screaming, either from giving birth or being violently murdered. With her name, the Banshee being Gallic for "woman of the mounds", referring to her home on the mounds of the Irish terrain.

When a Banshee appears she either takes the form of an old woman, or a young beautiful lady, and is either dressed in robes or a dress with long flowing hair. A Banshee is known as a herald for death, with her scream being a warning that someone is about to die. She is mostly spotted outside of noble Irish family houses, where she screams to warn of the coming death of a relative. 

So if you hear a scream, or a wail. You might want to be prepared, for it might be a sign that a death in your family is to come.
