Chapter 31: The Great Walls

When my eyes open my head is resting on the cold wooden planks, my body half in and half out of the pool. But the surprising thing is that my hearts have been completely restored faster than possible and - no way! This potion hasn't just restored my normal health points, it's matched my full health bar in golden hearts which don't fade, but stay there like normal hearts! By copying Chadd's recipe exactly I've created - or he's created something absolutely awe-empowering!

I burst from my room, running down the hallway and scanning the signs on either side of the halls until I finally find the one I'm looking for. I push open the door simply marked 'Ay', and burst into the room.

"Oh, hey S." Ay looks up from her bed. She is holding a leather-bound book titled 'Golden Shoes', and has her legs propped up on an extra pillow. "I'm reading this awesome book about this girl called Leona, who falls in love with Arran Davila, and then her parents don't approve. It's a total cliche." Ay says, marking the book and laying it down.

"Ya great," I say distractedly. "Ay, I just replicated Chadd's potion and the results are insane!" I cry, "I have a few drops left, and trust me that's all you'll need - I took almost the whole bottle, and wow. Go get on your bathing suit and stand on the magma block in the pool, and then drink this. Trust me!" I urge her.

"Um, you want me to stand on a magma block and drink that?"

"It's regeneration."

"Um, yeah duh you weren't the only one in Chadd's secret lab. The point is that's barely anything!"

"Just trust me, this is way more than enough."

"Uh-huh." Ay picks up her book again deftly.

"Ay, please! Go and change right now!"

"Ugh, S!"

"Ay! Now!" I snatch her book and put it behind my back.

"Fiiiiine." Ay whines and stomps off into her changing room and comes out wearing a bathing suit very similar to mine, except it's two pieces and it's a pinkish shade of white. "Can I have my book back now?"

"No! You can have this, though." I stuff the potion into Ay's hands.

"Uuuuugh."

"Now go into the pool, stand on magma block and down the last drops," I command.

"The magma block! Do I have to!?" Ay whines desperately.

"Yes! Now go and stop wasting time!" I say exasperatedly. Ay moans and groans but wades into the water until she stands right in front of the magma block. "Jump," I say. Ay moans, shakes her hands, and looks around nervously, but finally jumps onto the magma block. In less than a second, she flashes red, then again. I'm only worried for a second before Ay swallows the potion, and then I get to see the amazing phenomenon in the third person.

Ay doubles over, gasping, and begins to glow a golden-red color - I'm guessing this is her obtaining the golden hearts. Then she begins to sway but staggers out of the water. She doesn't faint like me because she drank a lot less, but her skin still looks pale - well, pale gold. "What. In. Minecraftia. Was that?" Ay gasps, dragging herself from the water, "I have half a set of golden hearts! That's impossible with regeneration!"

"I got a full set of golden hearts when I drank all the rest of that bottle. Also, I fainted, but you had a lot less." I say.

"How'd you brew this!?" Ay looks up at me in awe.

"I just followed Chadd's recipe from memory. I'm surprised I got it right."

"Maybe you did something different on accident. I don't think anybody could really try to get that result and get it on purpose."

"No, I'm sure that's what Chadd was aiming for. Remember, he needed extra nether wart to hold everything - that means he probably expected a big result." I share my head firmly.

"Maybe..." Ay still looks unconvinced. "There's one way to find out for sure, we have to rebrew the potion and see if we get the same results."

"Ugh no, it was hard the first time! There's no way I'm going through that again! Besides, it's nighttime. We should get some sleep." I argue.

"How would you even know down here?" Ay asks drily.

"Clock, duh," I respond equally drily. "And don't stay up too long reading - by the way, where'd you get it?"

"There should be a chest next to your bed. If you have Golden Shoes read it, but there's also one other book I wanted to try - I think it was, wait," Ay rummages through her chest quickly and holds out another leaflet of leather-bound pages, which I take and read the golden type on it's front. 'Zharu Minecraft Exploration', the leather cover displays.

"Okay, sure," I say, even though I'm very unsure. But I still take the book to bed and find myself reading it until the middle of the night when I finally finish off the fifty pages on the desert village girl, Zharu, who wants to become an explorer with her uncle and friend. Soon after I drift off to sleep, wondering what tomorrow will bring.

When I wake up with the sun - I think, I can't really see the sun but my clock says so - I immediately get dressed in my favorite clothes, the leather pants, and red T-shirt and collect all my things, leaving behind the chest of books wistfully. I find my weapons from Juzoos and the swamps dumped on the rug, some of which I replace for diamond counterparts and some I keep which are already diamond. But there's one thing I still have to do.

I fish into a trunk for a book and quill, which I title 'S's Things' because I'm very uncreative. On the first page, I briefly write a little script about Chadd, potions, and enchantments along with a little on my predicament before scrawling yesterday's recipe while it's still fresh under 'Speed Regeneration XXL'. I quickly make space in my inventory for the little journal-like book and rush outside, changing back my sign to read 'Unoccupied'.

"There you are, you took long enough!" I bump into East right behind me, with the angry version of my red-headed companion behind him.

"Hurry up, we can't make Warden wait." Sierra snaps, jogging ahead towards the elevator. I follow, breaking into a sprint to keep up.

"Where's Ay?" I ask breathlessly.

"She's already down there, I think," East replies, running easily along next to me.

"Never mind her- we're here and we're the ones running late." Sierra shoots me a glare.

"Sorry guys." I bite down my tongue and fore myself to be humble.

"Alright, Jerrt get the elevator moving! We're running late!"

"Well, I'll say! Hop it quick, ho ho!" Jerrt chuckles - this time a but nervously and opens the elevator doors as quickly as possible. We rush in and Sierra jams down and up the levers and the elevator jerks up towards wherever we're meeting Warden and Ay. We only go a couple of floors higher before Sierra shoves down the lever again.

"We're here. Hurry up, we have a team of six escorts along with Warden." Sierra pushes me like the elevator lever into a small room which I recognize as the entrance room from yesterday. The stairs from the previous days sit right in front of us and the piston doors are just visible up the stairway. Warden and four others along with an impatient-looking Ay stand right in front of us.

"Took you long enough." Another Celtic-looking man with red hair and bunches of freckles who looks a little younger than Sierra grins.

"It's not my fault, Jame! It's the newcomer, she just can't get up on time!" Sierra complains to my annoyance.

"It is no-" I begin to argue but Sierra steps on my foot. I return the gesture a little harder the second I make sure Warden isn't looking.

"Alright, this is beside the point! Let's get going!" Warden calls, pressing another stone button next to the piston door. The vault-like entryway slides open jerkily in the usual redstone fashion. This time we're all ready and I make it through on time easily along with everybody else. "Everybody keep up and stick together! We should arrive in Spots in a half-day!" Warden yells, beginning the long jog-run to Spots. I sigh and pick up my feet, getting ready for another long day.

But, surprisingly, it feels a lot shorter when we reach the clearing next to Spots great gates than the trip to the Minecrafter Statue yesterday, which was actually shorter.

"Good job S, usually you're pretty slow but today you went faster." Ay comes over, I scowl.

"Well thanks a lot, Wither Ay." I punch Ay in a friendly way and she rubs her shoulder and scowls again.

"These are the gates of Spots. We can't risk taking you any farther, but good luck finding your family heirloom." Warden comes up behind me and startles me.

"Oh!" I start, and then remember to play along, "Yes, perhaps if we find out way back and stop to rest and the statue we can show you." I say.

"Yes, perhaps if you come back - to the statue" Warden adds the statue part hastily, the unspoken doubt written all over his face and words.

"Yes. Thank you Warden," then I raise my voice, "And thank you Minecrafters." I call, my face burning self-consiously. The Minecrafters all nodd back and eventually the group disperses after wishing us luck and sprinting away.

"Alright, Ay. Let's go." We stand before the giant walls, ready to walk through the tiny double-door in comparison to the splendor of the wall.

"Let's go."

This chapter was interesting, but where does Chadd fit in!? Maybe we'll find out, or maybe we'll have to wait until the next book - or never! What do you think will happen to Ay and S? Do you think Spots will really be in ruins? And where has the voice disappeared to?
