Chapter 6 ~ Robin
**Chance's POV**
"I'm dead, aren't I?"
"For the millionth time Bailey. YOU ARE NOT DEAD! You're-"
"Could've fooled me! We're in the middle of a forest Crow-face. Just thought I'd give you a friendly reminder."
Fucking hell.
"I see the transition didn't improve the infamous insults and that was anything but friendly." I muttered and shook my head and ignored the snort aimed at me. "You're in The Void Central." Ha, I've always wanted to say that!
"So you've said, doofus." New one, "but care to explain where the fuck that is?"
I sigh and look around at the familiar forest, that has been my home for the past 3 years. You know, as I'm a bird and all. The swift movements of the tree branches swaying to the unheard music always brought me peace and the sun peeking through the clouds refreshed me. I caw to alert Robbie that I have come back as I know how much he must have missed my pretty face. Then I fall backward on my back to bathe in the beautiful sunlight and spread my wings out. I knew this would annoy precious Blue.
"Are you fucking serious? You can't just sunbathe now!" You thought wrong, Princess I'm a free bird - pun intended. I stay still as a statue, "At least I think you're sunbathing..." Her voice trailed off and for a second I think she's disappeared but who am I kidding.
One stomp to the old precious feathers later.
"OUCH! Blue, I never pegged you for being violent towards your friends." I say sarcastically as I fly up to a tree branch to get away from her wild karate limbs.
"Friend?" She scoffed, I expected nothing else from the girl. "If a friend means that I tolerate you, then yes you're an annoying stalker friend."
"That's just uncalled for sweetheart."
"Is it though? Now, WHERE THE HELL AM I?"
"Considering your language... the depths of hell." I chuckle as blood rushes to her face, just like a traffic light. It's so easy to wind her up.
"Listen here you-"
"Now, now children," a booming voice cut into our usual death threat match.
The rough voice had carried from the edges of the forest, just out of view. I watch Blue tense as she prepares herself for more weirdness in her life. I don't envy her, especially not at the volume her thoughts are at.
They go something like this, "AGAIN?!?! Another fucking voice. Just great. Here I was a week ago just trying to get my last week of school out the way and BOOM! A voice enters my head in the form of a bloody crow and now BOOM! Another voice has entered the system. Officially going crazy. I already have one infuriating squeaky-"
"Hey!" I shout and flap my wings in annoyance. "You better watch your mouth Bluey."
She mutters something unintelligible, which I don't hear but luckily Rob doesn't keep me out of the loop for too long.
"Of course, Bailey, we can't forget hot-headed."
I try to growl but fail miserably and squark instead. I bow my head and try to face palm with my wing.
Blue and Robbie cackle away until little patters of feet get closer and hedge out from the forest. I may have been sidetracked by Robbie's little verbal spew and had a little huff fit but I'm soon pulled out of it as I hear, "Great because that's all I asked for Christmas this year was another fucking bird!"
I try and hold my laughter that rises within my chest as I take in Blue's disbelieving stare towards Robbie and Robbie's guarded expression as he takes her in. She was wearing black ripped jeans, a red vest, and her iconic brown leather jacket. I think she sleeps with that leather jacket on; it honestly wouldn't surprise me in the least. I miss clothes but at the same time, I can see why people become nudists, its very freeing.
The silence is broke when Robbie introduces himself in a closed-off manner, obviously put off by her disdain she seems to be throwing his way. Is it bad that I'm kind of enjoying this? I kind of like the little break of that disdain being focused on me, it gets quite exhausting. Although it is probably my fault for that. Do you feel that? It's the weight of her disdain being blown off of my shoulders.
"So, you mean to tell me that your names Robbie and it has nothing to do with you being a Robin?" Her face scrunches up in confusion. Wait, why is she never confused around me?
"Exactly." Robbie nods his head and turns to me, "Have you told her anything?"
"Has he told me anything? Yeah, right." She scoffs.
"I'll have you know I started the story, the keyword being started, but then you started an argument because you were being annoying and panicking about where you were."
"Oh, I guess I shouldn't panic and it's totally normal... to be sucked up a street lamp and end up in a goddamn Amazon Rainforest. Sure next time can I go to the gift shop and get a postcard?" Wow, she really screamed that first part and went really sarcastic for the second half. Also, I think she hurt her hands with all that extra gusto she thought her words needed with actions. I really hope I never understand girls because... that shit looks painful.
"It is normal though." Came a hesitant voice. My eyes move down to look at Robbie, who even for a bird not usually shaken easily, Blue seems to have made an earthquake around him.
"Really, Robbie-my-name-has-no-correlation-to-my-species-of-bird?" Oops, she's seeing red and not just Robbie's red chest. Ha, I crack myself up sometimes. Who am I kidding? All the time.
He visibly gulps and nods his head. I see that there's a torrent of abuse coming lil' Robbie's way so I kindly interrupt and say to the Robbin, "Any chance that you're going to let us in?"
Robbie seems to snap out of the trance he was in and says, "Yes but... are you sure that she's the one?" He doesn't even bother to leave Princess out of the conversation. Usually, he's smart but I think Blue has electrified his brain.
"Chance? What's he talking about?" She asks tentatively, taking a step closer to where I'm perched on the tree and Robbie's on the floor, obviously backing up. Wise choice.
"Basically we're gonna do another 'Slide' into the actual place called Lux because as you know I've told you we are in VC."
"What's VC?" I hear Robbie chirp as he looks mischievously at me and raises an eyebrow, as much as a Robin can. I groan and scuff my claws on the bark.
"Void Central." I mutter as Robbie collapses in fits of laughter.
He rolls over, "You still... call it .... that!" And cue another round of giggles. Ok, we get it.
A smile tugs at Blues mouth and the next word out of her mouth are, "I guess that's not what it's called."
"No, but it should be." Robbie and I replied at the same time. It seems Robbie has now collected himself and straightens.
He opens his mouth and goes on to explain how VC is just technically nothingness and just a stop off-route between Slides.
"I'm going to pretend I understood that."
"That's fine with me Bailey. I am going to open the door for you to get across to Lux," I open my mouth and I'm cut off, "I couldn't open it earlier as I had to make sure you were you as it is very dark times as you know."
I couldn't agree more.
Blue wavers from one foot to the next and raises her hand slightly, "I sure as hell don't know."
"You will soon enough Miss Martin-"
"Why does everyone seem to know my name?" She grumbles.
"Don't flatter yourself love, we didn't find it intentionally." That was Robbie's smart reply as he seems to register that she's not such a threat as he first thought. She rolls her eyes. Huh, if I'd of said that I would have had World War 3 to fight all on my lonesome.
Robbie hops into the trees and I swoop down from the trees and land on Bailey's shoulder. I'm greeted with a grunt. I can feel the adoration pouring off of her.
The red chested bird nudged a pile of leaves to reveal a glass screen embedded into the floor and hops on it. The effect is immediate and we see the little shiny strips of light flicker in front of us.
"Woah." I hear Blue breathe out. I can't help but agree with her. I've seen it a million times before but you just can't help but admire.
"Right. This slide isn't going to be as easy as the first one, okay? One, because anyone can get into what Chance has named so aptly the VC, well anyone who knows how to anyways. Two, Lux has very vigorous tests that have to be done to make sure the person entering is trustworthy but don't worry you'll get your memory back eventually. It will also never be anywhere near this painful when you do this again, all clear?"
I know Blue is scared by the tension within her shoulders and they feel as if they might break if I move. "What did you mean about that I'll get my memory back eventually?"
"You'll see. Now come on we don't have all day! Chop chop!"
She takes a small step forward and reaches her hand towards the static energy and presses her index finger against it. A spark shoots out but she doesn't move back. Her eyes set with determination. I zone in on her thoughts.
"If this is a dream then what could possibly go wrong? A lot. Why do I answer my own questions? I don't know. Shut up! Right if it's a dream I can just wake up if it turns to a nightmare."
"Glad to know you dream of me cupcake," I whisper in her head. She turns to give me a hard glare. Then suddenly we are dissolving and being pulled apart in a million directions.
I hear Blue's screams as ice-cold fire rips her body apart. I know this from experience. But in between her screams, I hear an amused voice say, "I told you I don't have all day."
He must have pushed her.
