Chapter 5 ~ Flickering lights

*Present time- Friday*

"What pissed you off today, sunshine?"

You, Arsehole. I scuffed my boots on the pavement as I walked home from the shop with my unwelcome companion flying from one tree to the next, zig-zagging above my head.

"That's not nice Blue and here I thought you were warming up to me. My poor soul can't take it," He fluttered his wings and swooshed down in front of me, taking me by surprise. Shit. I jolted to a stop and watched Featherkins fall-over dramatically, "The Bailey Lorraine Martin thinks I'm an arsehole."

"Yes, I only speak the truth." I unintentionally say out loud. Thank God it's dark and the only light is coming from streetlights dotted all down the road. That ironically doesn't give me comfort as they're flickering eerily like in a horror movie. I shiver. Featherkins shoots up and tries to put his wings in a stance like a human would put their hands on their hips, which was a sight to behold.

"Okay, so the other day when your Dad asked, 'Bails, have you adopted this fine-looking specimen of a bird? Because it keeps following you around' and you replied, 'No. Um, how do you know it's not following you around? I'm not that interesting for a bird to hang out with.' And your Dad said, 'Whoa, I was only joking and I know it's not following me because I already have Peanut' as he pointed to the pet Yorkshire Terrier, circling his feet that he brought home from the Vets that day, after its hip operation. So do you really state the truth Bluey, when you deny knowing me?"

I crossed my arms.

Ok first, My Dad never said 'fine specimen of a bird' you disillusioned git, and secondly, I did say the truth as I do not know why you're following me Bum Bum.  By the way, your impersonation of my voice was way off, you sounded like a pubescent boy.

I go to walk around the self-entitled bird but was stopped by his impressive crab walk.

"Move!"

"Now, now Princess. My impersonations are spot on so if I sounded like a pubescent boy there's a reason and you really need to get more creative with your insults 'disillusioned git' and 'Bum Bum'? What are those? And by my self-entitled nature, I just know my worth. Tut tut, absolute beginner." He huffed.

I'll show you how beginner I am, when I kick your arse down the bloody road!  I glared at him.

"Feisty but before you start talking about my arse, how's yours' sweetheart?"

Low blow.

"Literally." He doubled over laughing.

Shut up!

He moves out the way of my flailing limbs as I try to kick him. I continue walking home to the sound of his laughter until once again he makes me jump by landing on my shoulder. Don't get me wrong, I always loved the Pirate of the Caribbean films but right now I don't particularly want to re-enact Jack Sparrow, especially since I have no rum on me.

"Aww I love Pirates of the Caribbean too! Now you'll definitely never get rid of me."

My feet stop and I shake my shoulder to get his hold to dislodge from my shoulder. His claws dig in deeper. Get off of me!

"Why? I'm tired and my wings hurt from following you around." He whines and gives me his best puppy dog eyes, in crow form, obviously, as I turn my head to look at him and give him my best patronising look.

"And who's problem is that? I don't remember phoning up Bird line and asking for a Crow to stalk my every move." Once again I said out loud. Stupid brain.

"Good one, Blue. Bird line should exist but that would mean I would be in high demand and you wouldn't have me all to yourself now, would you?"

I roll my eyes as I tilt my head back and I notice I've stopped under one of the flickering street lights. It's so eerie when a light flickers in the dark. It always put me on edge so I feel my body tense up naturally. Crap! It doesn't help that a certain bird's head nudges my ear.

"Are you a scared, Princess?"

I shake my head and fiddle with the zippers on the sleeves of my leather jacket.

"I never thought I'd see the day. Little Miss Bailey is scared." He chuckled.

Fuck off.

"I mean... I would but that means I would have to give up my stalkerish tendencies and I'm just not ready yet for that kind of commitment."

I grunted in response. He flexed his claws on my shoulders making me grit my teeth. The light flickered.

"I'm sorry Blue, this may hurt. Although I do wish i could make this a better experience for you." He cackled, while I smack him on the head.

EWWWWWWW!

Bright white takes over my vision and a pins and needles sensation takes over my body.

"Chance!" I shout.

A feeling of weightlessness takes over.

Then all of a sudden, it's as if I get sucked into a vacuum.
