The plot thickens...

This chapter came out a bit short, but trust me it just makes more sense this way. Now I just have to figure out where to go from here...

Of course I, as the marvelous writer I am, know excatly what I'm doing!

That was a total lie by the way.

You guys will be the first to know when Andrew Loyd Webber gives me rights to POTO!

Ezra's POV

"What do you want?" My voice shook as I backed away from him. I wasn't afraid of him, I was afraid of her. If he was here now, she would be right behind him.

"What? Can't a man visit his little brother?" He asked sarcastically.

I said nothing. He ignored my silence and begin inspecting the room. My eyes followed his every movement, never missing a step. I knew they would eventually find me, I'd just thought it would take so much longer.

"It has been nine long years, and look at you! You're all grown up!" He glanced up from the stack of my own books he'd been looking through. "How old are you now?"

I gave him a sideways look, trying to figure out what kind of game he was playing. He'd never been one to procrastinate.

        "Twenty-two" was all I said.

"Huh, where has the time gone?" He acted like he was actually thinking about it.

"You didn't answer my question." I said carefully.

"Hmm?" He turned away from my things to look at me. "Oh that. Well if you must know, mother - you do remember you have one those right?"

"How could I forget?" I mumbled dryly.

He smirked before continuing. "Anyhow, mother sent me here to find a girl...and you of course."

"What girl?" I asked, confusion obvious in  my voice. Why would she want a girl?

"Dark eyes, black waves, short, pale. I think we both know who I'm speaking of, do we not?" There was something sinister in his eyes as he spoke.

"Kat." My mouth hardly moved to say the name. "But why?"

"Don't know, I just work here." He smiled at his own remark.

I stood frozen. My mouth had gone dry and my hands were shaking. Why Kat?

"So are you going to tell me where I can find her?" He said after I refused to respond.

"Damien, please." I pleaded. "You don't have to obey her."

"And what do you propose I do? Run off and hide for nearly a decade? I don't think so." His eyes were burning and his words were acid. "I accepted my fate. I accepted what I am, and suggest you do the same."

"You are her child. Don't you dare pretend you are any different from me." He stepped closer to me, making me want to shrink back and hide but I didn't.

I stayed in my spot in the center of the room. He was right, but I wouldn't allow him to win, not now not ever. He wasn't the man I knew all those years ago, not anymore.

His face was inches from mine, as he paced in a small circle around me. "You know, for months after you left I hoped and prayed that you would come back for me, but you didn't. You were my brother and you left me for dead."

I stood up straighter. "I'm sorry. I was just a kid, and I was afraid."

"Afraid? How do think I've felt? There isn't a day that goes by that I don't fear for my life!" He yelled the last sentence, his seemingly calm exposure faltering.

He put himself back together and walked to the door. "Now, take me to her." He said coolly.

Oh lord please let her be with Erik. I knew he'd kill anyone who tried to harm her. I need to talk to him as soon as possible.

I reluctantly led my brother to the dorms and Kat's room. We stood outside of the dorms because Damien didn't want to be seen.

"When will she be alone?" He asked glaring angrily at the giggling girls just feet from our hiding place.

"Tomorrow, during rehearsals. She's sick." I said honestly. There was no point in lying to him, he'd figure it out eventually.

"Fine then. We will come back in the morning. In the meantime, I have to report to her royal highness." He said as we headed towards my room.

We stopped in the grand foyer. I could still her the sound of voices coming from the stage area. A dozen cops, just out of reach. Not that they could do anything to stop her.

"Do you know what happened in there?" I asked, as I followed him to the front doors.

"What? You mean that slob that was murdered?" He asked and I nodded. "Well let's just say it wasn't the legendary Opera Ghost." He laughed darkly.

My brother had killed a man!

I stared at him in shock. "What has she done to you?"

He ignored my question and opened one of the large doors.

"Now don't go do anything stupid while I'm gone." Damien called as he headed out of the door.

Once he was out of sight I ran for the lair.

Erik's POV

How could I be so stupid? She poured her heart out to me and all I could do was ask why.

        Damn my lonely soul!

I sat at my organ and prepared myself to take out my pain on the instrument. My fingers hadn't hit a single key when Ezra barged in through a passage I didn't remember showing him.

"What are you doing?" I asked, standing abruptly.

He was breathing heavily and looked absolutely petrified. I walked to where he leaned against a stone wall. There was a fear in his eyes that shook me to the very core.

"Ezra, what happened?" I tried my best to seem concerned, but still sounded more demanding than anything.

"Kat." He managed to say after a few minutes.

"What?" I nearly yelled at him. Just the thought of anything happening to her killed me inside.

He just stood there staring off into space. It was as if time itself froze and thawed before he managed to answer. In the meantime, I had grown inpatient and began pacing. I didn't want to lose my temper and frighten him, though I don't think he could possibly be more terrified than he was right now.

"Nine years ago, I ran away from home. I ran away from everything I ever knew." His voice was cold and flat.

"Yes, but what does that have to do with Kat?" I asked. His family issues weren't of my concern, I simply wanted to know what had happened to Kat.

He ignored my question and continued, standing straighter against the wall. "My mother was, no is crazy. She killed my brothers fiance in front him, and me."

He went on to explain about his brother, Damien, and how much he'd loved him. He told me of Damien's fiance, Elizabeth I believe it was, and how his mother had stabbed her in front of them both. His pain and sadness gained my sympathy, though I still wasn't sure if I trusted him. He had a rough life, much like my own and like myself, he ran from it all.

But now, it had come back to haunt him. He said his brother had returned and all he wanted was Kat, his mother had demanded it. The whole thing puzzled me. Why would a complete stranger want her?

No, it didn't matter why because there was no way in hell I would let it happen.

"But why would he want her?" I asked Ezra anyhow once he finished his tragic tale.

He finally looked up from the floor. "I haven't the slightest idea."

Haha! From The Vampire Diaries to Les Mis...hopefully that's the last time I do that....
