Hallowed ground
So I have decided that I should cast some people for the roles of Kat, Ezra, Damien, and mother(I call her that, not because I don't want to name her, but because I can't think of a name for her). And seeing how no one EVER seems to want to comment(that excludes the few awsome people who have), I have prepared a proposal, give me some casting ideas and you get the chapter of your choice dedicated to you! It'll be fun, trust me! I really want to see who you guys relate my characters to. And if any of you have an idea on what I should name that evil bi- I mean witch, let me know!
POTO...not mine...whatever...
Christine's POV
"Christine, stop worrying. I am sure that Kat is perfectly fine." Raoul told me for the thousandth time.
He was trying, unsuccessfully, to calm me down. I was currently pacing from wall to wall in my room while Raoul watched from his seat on my bed. It wasn't exactly proper to be alone with a man in my bedroom, but I didn't care at this point. Kat was missing again and this time I feel it may be for good.
"Darling please." Raoul pleaded. "This is absurd!"
"No it isn't!" I snapped, my normally calm voice shaking.
Raoul jumped back a bit in surprise. "Okay. Do you want to alert the media, form a search party?"
He stood and walked over to me.
"Just tell me what to do." He took may hands in his own and smiled sympathetically.
I knew he was trying his hardest to help, but sometimes just the very sight of him was enough to make me course. I love him dearly, truly I do. He just has an annoying tendency to act like such a, such a...pansy!
I mentally slapped myself for that thought before answering him. "Oh Raoul, what if he has taken her?"
The thought had crossed my mind before, but I didn't truly believe it to be possible until now.
"He?" Raoul asked.
"The...phantom." I swallowed hard, remembering all those years I thought of him as my father, my angel. Each of them was a lie.
"Christine, how many times do I have to tell you? There is no Phantom of the Opera!" Raoul scoffed.
I let out an angry sigh. "Raoul I don't see why you refu-"
A knock on my door made my mouth freeze.
A male voice came from the other side of the door. "Miss Daae?"
I loosened my hands from Raoul's and opened the door.
"Yes?" I asked the young man standing in my doorway politely.
"Here, mademoiselle. A letter, it arrived late last night for you." He said, handing me a small envelope.
"Merci." I curtsied then shut the door.
I broke the small black wax seal and unfolded the paper.
Christine,
First off, I would like to inform you that Kat is perfectly safe. She is now in the hands of her mother. If you are wondering, it is in fact her mother, and mine as well that I speak of. She did not die all those years ago, but, to my dismay, lives.
Speaking of which, she would like to invite you and the vitcomte to join us, and Kat of course, for dinner tomorrow evening. A carriage will arrive around seven to escort you to our home.
See you soon, E.
I gasped and let the paper slip from my hands and hit the floor. Kat's mother is alive! After all these years. Why wouldn't she have told me?
"Who is E?" Raoul asked.
I turned around to find him standing with the letter in his hands.
"It's Ezra." I said with sudden realization. "He is one of only three people, that I know of, that do not address Kat by her full name."
"But it says 'her mother and mine as well'. I thought Ezra was an orphan." Raoul stated skeptically.
"I'm not quite sure what to think anymore." I said honestly.
I sat down on my bed wanting to hide under the covers and never be seen again. My eyes hit the floor instead and caught sight of a very small folded piece of paper.
"What is that?" Raoul asked, his eyes following mine.
"It must have fallen out of the letter." I said as he reached down to pick it up.
He unfolded it and read it out loud. "Meet me in the cemetery today at dusk. We have some serious matters to discuss'. That's odd. Why would he want to meet us? What 'matters' could we possibly have to discuss?"
Raoul looked extremely confused as I jumped off my bed and ran for my shoes and cloak.
"What are you doing?" Raoul asked when I threw his jacket at him.
"If we don't leave now then we'll never make it there in time." I exclaimed, struggling with the laces of my boots.
Kat's POV
The night was cold and frost-bitten as we trudged through the snow. The cemetery was just as I remembered it, deserted, cold, and creepy.
"Where did Erik disappear to?" Damien asked ahead of me.
I had fallen behind him and Ezra due to my frozen legs. Now I was sort of shuffling along, tripping over my own feet every now then.
"He went to hide. Raoul sort have hates him, you know." I said looking to my left where Erik had been seconds ago.
"He did sort of try to take Christine from him." Ezra stated. "Then again, that argument could be presented in both directions, I suppose."
"Not anymore brother. It seems our opera ghost has found a new flame." Damien smirked and glanced back at me.
I gave him my best 'f-off' look. "There is nothing going on between Erik and I, Damien."
"You keep telling yourself that, sis." He grinned wide at me, so I gave him the finger. "Tsk, tsk, tsk. I think you should be grounded missy."
"Ugh! Why couldn't I have been an only child?" I muttered when Damien turned back around.
"Heard that." Damien remarked.
"Don't care." I mocked him.
Ezra stopped abruptly. "Stop it, the both of you! Kat, quit acting like a child, and Damien stop being a dick!"
With that we each sighed in annoyance and defeat, then continued our short journey. I suppose Ezra was right, we were being a bit childish. Damien is like the brother I never wanted but have somehow always needed. He is a total ass, there's no doubt about that, but I still find myself unable to dislike him. I see the good in him and I truly believe that when all this is said and done, we could become good friends.
I had a brother before, I lost his memory just hours ago. It was there one minute then gone the next. All I know now is that he does in fact exists, I'm just not sure where or how.
You were once my one companion
You were all that mattered
You were once a friend and father
Then my world was shattered
"Who's singing?" Damien poked his head up at the sound.
We were almost to Christine's father's grave, the place we were to meet her and Raoul, when the singing started. The sound echoed through the air around us. Her voice was beautiful and sad as she sang her heart out.
"It's Christine." I said as the melody continued.
Wishing you were somehow here again
Wishing you were somehow near
Sometimes it seemed if I just dreamed
Somehow you would be here
Wishing I could hear your voice again
Knowing that I never would
Dreaming of you won't help me to do
All that you dreamed I could
"Pretty voice." Damien muttered as we came to a stop before the tomb of Gustav Daae.
Christine's singing had stopped and it worried me. I left Damien and Ezra without explanation and began walking in the direction her voice had come from. Once I could see her slim figure ahead of me, I began singing where she had left off.
Passing bells and sculpted angels
Cold and monumental
Seem for you the wrong companions
You were warm and gentle
Too many years fighting back tears
Why can't the past just die?
Christine looked up in confusion at the sound of my voice. She spotted me within seconds and began walking towards me. We sang in unison as the distance between us came to a close.
Wishing you were somehow here again
Knowing we must say goodbye
Try to forgive, teach me to live
Give me the strength to try
No more memories, no more silent tears
No more gazing across the wasted years
Help me say goodbye
We were face to face when the song ended.
Christine threw her arms around me. "I refuse to say goodbye to you."
"I hope you never have to." I said returning her hug.
She wasn't my sister, that I knew, but I loved her like one. I met her for the first time only days ago, but my heart has known her so much longer. It was in that moment that I realized something, I belong here. All my life I've felt so alone, so isolated. But here there are people who love me, people who can't stand the thought of losing me.
For the first time in a long time, I felt truly loved.
"Christine! Are you okay?"
I pulled away from Christine and looked behind her to where Raoul was trudging threw the snow towards us.
"I'm fine! I found Kat!" Christine yelled at him.
"Good." He said breathlessly once he was standing next us. "Now who are we meeting, and why?"
"I'll show you, follow me." I said and headed back to my brothers.
Erik's POV
You were once my one companion
You were all that mattered
You were once a friend and father
Then my world was shattered
Her voice filled the air around me, just as beautiful as I remembered, but to my surprise, it no longer affected me the way it once had. I listened intently to her sad song, as her voice grew closer. I could see her walking towards the mausoleum I was perched on. She was a about a yard away when she came to a stop. Then I heard another voice, it was beautiful and pure.
My heart melted when I saw Kat making her way towards Christine.
They finished the song together then hugged for some time before that fop came trotting up to them. The idea of him and Christine being together no longer bothered me, but I still despised the fool.
The trio began walking in my direction. I prepared myself to listen to the madness that was sure to begin.
"Hurry up!" Damien yelled below me.
I could tell he was growing impatient and I didn't blame him. After all, we are in a cemetery at night in below freezing conditions.
"Would you calm down?" Kat said sarcastically when she reached the tomb.
Damien narrowed his eyes and crossed his arms in response.
"Who is that man?" Christine whispered to Kat.
"I'll explain." Kat said and looked at Damien for permission to spill everything. He nodded so she continued. "You may want to sit down for this."
Christine did as she was told and took a seat on a nearby headstone. Raoul stood next to her and Kat immediately began explaining everything. She started with her childhood and ended with yesterday, she even threw in Ezra and Damien's tale along the way.
While Kat went on, Christine experienced an array of emotions. She looked angry yet sad and confused all at once. I drew my attention from her to the fop. His face was priceless! It was blank with nothing but shock and confusion in his eyes. His mouth was opened wide as he stared at Kat. It made me smile to see him look so idiotic. Although I wasn't sure if it was possibly for him to ever not look moronic, especially with that hair.
When Kat finished talking, Christine stood and placed a hand over her mouth. Kat watched her, chewing her lip nervously.
"No, it can't be true. I've known you almost all my life." Christine's voice was grim and shaky when she finally managed to speak.
"I'm so sorry." Was all Kat managed to say.
"Is this some kind of sick joke?" Raoul said angrily.
"No. I daresay it is all one-hundred percent true. Nothing more, nothing less." Damien assured them as he strode over to the small group.
When no one said anything more, Damien took it upon himself to explain our plot to 'safely' murder his mother. Raoul seemed a bit shocked at this but Christine looked as if she understood. She looked up at Kat and threw her arms around her once more.
"I am so sorry Kat. I-I...I understand why you would agree to something like this, but it just isn't safe." Christine was nearly in tears as she sputtered the words.
"I know, but I have to Christine. It's the only way." Kat said as she pulled away from her 'sister'.
"Wait. Who is this other man you say is helping you three with this?" Raoul butted in.
I took that as my cue and jumped down from the small roof I'd been hiding on. Christine gasped and the fop drew his sword as I landed in front of them.
"You! I should kill you where you stand!" Raoul hollered at me.
I simply laughed at his reaction and turned to Kat. "Surprise."
"Very funny. You nearly gave me a heart attack!" Kat grinned and lightly hit my arm.
"You may be a bigger ass than me." Damien said surprised, though more at the thought than my 'sneak attack'.
While I was distracted the fop had raised his sword so that it was inches from my throat. My blood boiled as the fool drew closer, his sword now poking my collar.
"Raoul, what in the hell are you doing?" Kat asked, panic rising in her voice.
"I am going to end this...this...abomination once and for all!" The fop said threw gritted teeth.
I remained completely still, not wanting to give him any reason to stab me. "I am sorry to say, sir, that this isn't exactly a fair fight. You see, I am unarmed."
He eyes narrowed and his lips quivered with anger as I lifted my cape to prove my point. When he refused to draw back, Christine placed her hand over Raoul's. He looked at her in surprise then, understanding her gesture, slowly began to lower his weapon.
"You were right." Damien muttered to Kat.
Kat looked at him as if to say 'I told you so' then turned to Raoul. "Now I am not asking to two to kiss and make up, but we need you to at least pretend to get along."
"I have no ill thoughts towards you monsieur. Well at least not anymore." I said to the fop, throwing the last part in for affect.
He glared at me for a long while before he sheathed his sword and held up his hand.
"I can not say the same, but for Kat's sake, I will agree to a temporary truce." He said sternly as I took his hand and shook it.
"It's a good thing you agreed to that." Damien spoke up. "He's your ride home."
"What?" Raoul asked in horror.
I ignored his complaints and began stalking towards their carriage. I hadn't taken two steps when Kat grabbed my hand to stop me.
"I, um...I won't see you for a while so, goodbye." She said looking directly into my eyes.
She seemed sad at the thought of being away from me, which surprised me. I wanted so badly to take her with me and never let her go, but I knew I couldn't.
"Yes, goodbye. For now." I said and planted a small kiss on her cheek.
With that I turned around and left with my past love and her grumbling boyfriend. When we reached the carriage, Raoul hopped in without even thinking to help Christine. I frowned and offered to do his job, but Christine didn't want to sit in the back. She wanted to sit at the reins with me and I let her, not really sure how to respond in the first place
I helped her to the small seat then took my own next to her, trying to ignore the vitcomte's bickering.
"You love her don't you?" Christine asked me as we pulled away from the cemetery.
I remained silent, not able to speak. I knew the answer to that question and I knew she did as well, but I still wasn't sure how to respond. We sat in silence until we reached the opera house. Christine never bothered to say anything more to me about it, but I could tell it was eating her alive.
I tightened the reins causing the horses to stop short. Raoul was the first to exit and made his way over to help Christine down from her seat. She looked at me one last time, pleading with her eyes.
"Christine, I-I think I very well may." I said quietly before she jumped down.
She gave me a faint weary smile before disappearing into the building.
Yes I realize I did Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again before Masquerade, don't murder me! It just makes more sense this way, trust me.
