Hero In Despair
I am the only one left
With this power called 'quirk'
I turned to be the number one hero...
Without effort.
And I hated that.
......
Leaning on the cold wet wall underground, is none other than the number one hero. He heaved a deep breathe, feeling the pain and the blood gashing out from a deep wound on his side.
"Fuck" he gasped quietly when he slowly removed his hand that covered his wound.
Watching the red sticky blood slowly flowing out from his body made him feel dizzy. His head swam in pain and exhaustion.
Panting, he dragged his broken leg onwards; deeper into the underground.
Sweat dripped down his forehead, mingling with his blood inside an open wound on his head.
Katsuki winced at the sight of the stairs down. The pain is already unbearable, going down with a broken leg would only mean more pain, or even worse- death.
He thought of something; something that he can do with a broken leg, but he can't think of any idea. Katsuki sighed, then he managed to lean on the wall once again. Slowly sitting down the wet ground, trying not to damage his deep wounds any further.
He patted his clothes then he began checking in his pockets until he finally felt a bump on his army camouflage jacket. Katsuki bit his bloody lower lip, hesitating to pull out the communication device from his pocket.
"God damn it!" He exclaimed, hissing as the pain shot from his broken leg and up to his side then towards his head. The pain is unbearable.
Katsuki inhaled slowly, his shaking breath audible in the silent tunnel. He leaned his head on the wall and closed his eyes in a short while; calming himself.
If he were to use the 'walkie talkie', it would mean that he needed help from the underground heroes guild or the U.H.G.
And help would only mean pulling down his dignity and pride. Not to mention that he is the leader of the underground guild. The founder even.
But he can't die here either.
Being the only hope of the people, he can't just lay down and die. He has to fight and he will without hesitation. No matter how many times, no matter how painful and hard. Katsuki can't and won't bring down their hopes and dreams. Just by thinking about it, he felt like he is carrying the world on his back. Truly, it was his obligation as the number one hero.
A title that the people bestowed on him.
But that title comes with power, along with obligation and pressure.
Hesitantly, Katsuki pressed the on button on the device. He waited for a short while when he heard nothing but statics. Then, there it is...
"Mr. Bakugou?! Where are you?! I heard that your squad has been wiped out! I'm afraid that you might have been captured! Or worse! Dead!" A ranging woman exclaimed through the device.
Katsuki scrunched his nose in an annoyed manner. He hated this kind of people. They are too concerned of him that they are starting to forget about themselves. Disgusting.
"I'm alive, I'm fine. Just pick me up from floor A-1" he groaned in pain when he remembered that his lips were bruised.
Talking would only mean more pain.
"Yes sir! Right away!" The woman exclaimed.
Katsuki turned the device off, knowing that the irritating static would only make him feel-well- more irritated than he already has.
Not any longer than five minutes.
Katsuki heard footsteps from down below. Relief washed his uneasiness away and he let the darkness got the best of him.
The number one hero fell unconscious.
........
"You awake? Hey...Bro?"
Its been thirty minutes since Eijirou walked in the infirmary just to wake up their leader. Katsuki on the other hand, tried his best to ignore the former and pretended to sleep. Thinking that maybe, Eijirou will stop bothering him.
"I know your awake bro. You can't stay asleep for two days, plus, the reports are piling up" The red haired announced before poking Katsuki on the cheek.
The number one hero gritted his teeth and groaned. "Ah for fucks sake" he pushed the covers away then he sat up.
Only to be greeted by a stupid smiling face of his friend. Katsuki almost punched that face, almost. But he didn't, because he knew that he is more powerful than any average human out there. As the last person to have an offensive quirk, his body is much more stronger and quicker than any person.
"Go back to your post Kirishima, you know Denki and the others will slack off if your not there" Katsuki pointed out before pushing himself out of the bed.
Eijirou shrugged, "Let them slack off for a while. Also, Iida is on duty today. You know how strict that guy is" he mumbled, placing the neatly folded uniform on top of the white bed.
"Mina washed these for you. You should thank her sometimes" the red head mumbled.
Eijirou fished out a rubber band from his pocket, then he ran his hand on his loose hair. The red locks being combed by his fingers.
Katsuki sighed, "I'll thank her later" he said. "Also, your hair is against the military rules. You should cut that or I'll make you bald" he pointed out.
The red head only laughed. "Don't be silly" he mumbled before tying his hair on a low ponytail. "Mina like it this way" he whispered to himself.
....
"Sir welcome back" Kyouka said as soon as the blonde leader walked in his own office.
He snatched the papers from his secretary's hands and sat on the red couch sitting on the middle of the room; totally ignoring the worried woman who stood by the door.
Kyouka fidgeted with her long black hair anxiously. She was worried of course but she couldn't voice it out. One look at his face and you could tell that he is off limits; actually, he always looked like that but...Katsuki seemed extra pissed today. And of course, she don't want to get on his bad side.
The fact that she is the fifth secretary of the leader for only two and a half years is an obvious sign of Katsuki's bad temper.
"Who did you get this from?"
The sudden question made the black haired woman jolt to reality. She gaped for a second before biting her lower lip. Searching for an immediate response.
"The report came from Team C, led by Ojiro, sir" she answered.
"Team C...the current undercover in The New City" Katsuki mumbled, flipping through the papers.
His eyes were fast and so does his understanding. The team is currently running out of money to continue the mission. Without money, they can't actually pay for the rent and the food and trying to be hired in the New City will arouse suspicious because they lack identity.
But to pull out the mission would be a waste. Its only been three weeks since they started the investigation and there are still no crucial information about B.O.E. Though they do found out some source of there income and man power but they are still too weak to attack the city.
Katsuki snapped his fingers and Kyouka ran besides him.
"Call the treasurer in" he announced before shoving the report to his secretary.
"Yes sir" the black haired woman bowed weakly before moving out.
Katsuki exhaled very slowly as soon as the door closed. He fished out a bottle of pain killers from his army jacket and popped out two pills in his mouth. Then he pulled his flask from his chest pocket and chugged the cold water down.
His parched throat finally getting replenished by water.
Katsuki leaned on the couch after wiping his lips. The pain subsided slowly and slowly until he finally felt numb. Just like how his heart is now.
Empty and numb.
He knew from the start this shitty dream of being the number one hero is absurd. But as a child, its only normal to dream of aiming the top. Its normal to be naïve and arrogant. We spent our lives reaching for that goal that we looked at. To get into higher stages and platforms, eager to show the world what we can do.
But of course...
Reality defies everything.
It will hit you very hard that sometimes you can't even feel the pain anymore...and other times its just too painful that its overbearing. Then, other times we think its just easier to die.
Katsuki only realized the reality five years ago.
The reality of how weak and powerless he actually is. He tasted utter defeat that the reality fed him forcefully. The bitter taste of the truth that he can't remove from his taste buds.
But we cant actually do anything except to accept the truth.
The reality.
"Sir, I'm coming in" he heard a woman's muffled voice coming from the door.
He straightened up and silently thanked the pain killer for their small magic.
The door opened up, revealing a blue haired woman. She bowed weakly then preceded to walk towards Katsuki.
"You've called?" She asked.
"Yes, I need you to send more money and supplies to Team C in the New City" he ordered.
"Of course we can send supplies. But the money...it's quite the problem" Momo answered, pushing up her glasses higher up her nose bridge.
Katsuki closed the lid of his flask, pushing it back in his chest pocket. "I've heard" he mumbled before standing up.
The blonde leader padded his way towards his own desk, sitting by the left side of the room. He fished out a key on his pocket and pushed it in the keyhole on the top drawer of the desk. After hearing the lock click open, he pulled it out and grabbed the only blue folder on top of the others.
"Give this to Iida, he will know what to do after overlooking the files" Katsuki said after holding it out to the bun haired woman.
"Of course" Momo answered before grabbing the file gently from the blonde. Her lips pursed into a thin line and her blue eyes filled with nothing but seriousness. She bowed politely before leaving.
Katsuki sighed once again.
Having this kind of responsibilities at such an early age without guidance is very hard. He didn't even know if what he's doing is the right thing.
He slumped on his office chair and closed his eyes for a short moment, enjoying the silence.
Being a leader is a pain in the ass. His hands is always full and he doesn't have any time for himself. He was deprived of a normal life. But again...
There is nothing he can really do.
He didn't even chose this life to begin with. He is only a normal high school student before what happened five years ago. Everything went down hill because of a single human being.
The green haired evil nerd flashed before his eyes causing him to slam his hand on the table.
"Fuck" Katsuki whispered.
After the very large change over the whole world. He can't stop cursing his only childhood friend. He swore to kill him one day, to make him suffer. That villain ruined billions of lives and killed millions. That childhood friend destroyed cities and nations just so he can build his own Dystopia.
Right now, the villains ruled the world.
And he is on the top of them all.
Katsuki felt sick just by thinking about it. A quirkless kid who has the brain of a genius taking over the world? Impossible.
But he did it. He managed to do it.
He managed to do the impossible.
