Study Date

Gabriel sat in an EXTREMELY uncomfortable chair at the library, his arms crossed defiantly, his homework abandoned on the table in front of him.

On the opposite side of the table sat Sam Winchester, his soulmate, even if Sam had no idea yet. Sam was sitting comfortably in a similar chair, bent over his homework and oblivious to Gabriel's growing annoyance.

Gabriel let out a long sigh. This wasn't what a study date was supposed to be. He was supposed to be pressed against the stacks right now, lip locked with the fine young moose before him. He was supposed to have to come up with a lame excuse in class as to why he didn't do his homework and make a witty, sly remark when Sam did the same. Or, in Gabriel's preferred fantasy, he should've been making out with Sam in the moose's bedroom, books completely discarded on the floor because Sam only had one sibling, so there was a hell of a lot more privacy then there was in the Novak house.

But Sam had wanted to meet at the library, so Gabriel had accepted the stacks fantasy, only to be disappointed when Sam actually opened his textbooks and did, of all things, his HOMEWORK.

The AUDACITY.

Gabriel continued to stare at the moose, imagining that this is what straight girls felt like when they went on a date with a gay guy.

Well Gabriel didn't feel like being some hot and bothered cheerleader, no thank you. Not when Cas had gone on a date with Dean Winchester and had a grand old time, not to mention a follow up date next weekend. Gabriel was a year older than his brother, and that meant that he was supposed to get a boyfriend first! That was how it had always worked in every family since the beginning of time. Lucifer got Chloe, Michael didn't wanna date, Anna had a new boyfriend every five minutes, and Balthazar was Balthazar. Now it was Gabriel's turn, and he wasn't going to let Cassie get ahead of him. Cas might have beaten him to the first date stage and forced him to clean the entire house as a punishment, but Gabriel was determined to beat him to the boyfriend stage if it was the last thing he did.

There was just one problem with that.

Sam Winchester was a clueless mofo.

"Are you just going to sit there and glare at the world or are you actually going to do the homework we came here for?" Sam asked, glancing up from his textbooks for the first time in what felt like hours. Gabriel stared at him.

"No, I'm actually in a silent protest over homework, as I believe it to be cruel and unusual punishment and therefore against my rights as an American."

"Just because homework was originally invented as a punishment doesn't mean it's cruel and unusual, however, I would be happy to fight that court case with you once I graduate from Law School." Gabriel raised his eyebrows.

"You want to go to Law School?"

"Yep!"

"No wonder you're such a nerd then." Sam rolled his eyes.

"I'm not nerd. I just skipped a couple grades because I'm smart."

"So how old are you, exactly?"

"15. How old are you?"

"17."

"Oh cool, so's my brother."

"Yeah...." Gabriel continued to stare. "You know I'm actually amazed you're doing homework. Like seriously, how dare you." Sam raised an eyebrow.

"How dare I do homework?"

"Yes."

"In the library?"

"Yes."

"What else would I be doing here?" Gabriel faceplanted against the table. "...You've lost me." Gabe slowly peeled his face from the table and shot Sam a look.

"You're in the library." He deadpanned.

"Yes."

"With a cute boy."

"That's debatable, but ok."

"ALONE."

"There are like six librarians here-"

"And you're STUDYING?"

"That's what I told you we'd be doing." Gabriel let out a long suffering sigh.

"You've never dated anyone before, have you?"

"Not true," Sam insisted. "I used to have a girlfriend, back when we lived in Lebanon." Alarms started blaring in Gabriel's head.

"Oh?"

"Yeah, but things didn't really work out, so we broke up a little while before we moved here."

"And are you.....over her?" Sam shrugged.

"There's not much to get over, I don't think. Besides, I was starting to think I liked boys better anyway so we wouldn't have lasted." The alarms stopped and Gabriel grinned slyly.

"So you think you like boys better?"

"I'm not completely sure yet, but yeah."

"Well... I could always help you figure it out."

"What do you mean?" Sam looked confused, so Gabriel gave him a deadpan look and then waggled his eyebrows. Sam's eyes widened, something finally getting through that thick skull of his.

"Oh," He started. "You-"

"Yep."

"I didn't-"

"Yep."

"But-" Sam tilted his head, still confused, and Gabriel let out a groan.

"I LIKE YOU!" He shouted, shoving his books off the table. "And when someone says they want to STUDY with you, it's code for 'I wanna make out with you' not actually do homework!" There was a loud SHUSH from one of the librarians and Gabriel dropped back in his chair.

"Oh," Sam was blushing now, a bright red that made Gabriel regret all of his life choices. Why was he doing so bad at this? It had been so easy for him to get dates with everyone before Sam. Why was he just having trouble now? AND WHY WAS IT SO EASY FOR CASTIEL, OF ALL PEOPLE?

"Well," Sam said, quietly closing his textbook. "If you wanted to make out with me, you really should've just asked that directly. I would've said yes." Gabriel stared at him.

"Sam Whatever-Your-Middle-Name-Is Winchester," He said dramatically. "Will you do me the honor of letting me make out with you?" Sam grinned.

"I would be honored, but I suggest we make out in the bathroom because there's nothing worse then getting caught fooling around by a librarian." Gabriel smiled deviously.

"And you have personal experience with that, I assume?"

"More than you know." They stared at each other for a moment, then bolted from their chairs and ran for the bathroom.

"I'M STEALING THE CAR!" Satan yelled to no one in particular as he grabbed the keys. One of the major downsides to living in a house with six siblings and one parent with lousy income was that the Novaks only had one car. It especially sucked when five of those siblings could drive on their own already, and wanted to take the car just as much as you did. But Lucifer made do. He had a girlfriend- that meant he was more entitled to the car. Balthazar and Anna never really drove anyway. They just let their bitches come to them.

"If you're taking the car go pick up Gabriel from the library!" Chuck yelled from the kitchen, where Hannah and him were attempting to make a recipe Hannah had found online and 'it's rated 5 stars dad, it's gotta be good'. Lucifer stopped at the door, keys in hand.

"Gabriel?" He echoed. "At the LIBRARY?"

"Yep!"

"....Are you sure you're talking about the right child?" Chuck paused, running through the tally in his head. Michael was at school, Lucifer and Hannah were right here, Anna was on a date with some dude named Benjamin- or was it Brian?- Balthazar was unaccounted for and Castiel was up in his room ranting about Dean Winchester to Charlie like he had been all day.

"Yes," Chuck confirmed. "I definitely remember dropping somebody off there and it's not Balthazar so it has to be Gabriel."

"Huh."

"What?" Satan shrugged.

"I didn't think Gabriel could read."

So Satan drove to the library, still confused as he texted his little brother and waited for a reply. A reply that didn't come after ten minutes. Lucifer tapped his foot impatiently. He had things to do besides pick up his illiterate sibling. He was meeting up with Chloe, and she hated it when he was late. Granted, he was late most times they had a date for one sibling reason or another, but she still didn't like it, and Lucifer did NOT feel like angering his girlfriend today. Maybe on Tuesday, but not now.

And since Gabriel still hadn't texted him back or wandered outside, Satan let out a groan and wandered in. He never gone to the library, and frankly he was pretty sure the place hated him. The ground hurt his feet and he caught at least one of the librarians crossing herself as he wandered around in search of his stupid brother.

He found a table with discarded books and Gabriel's backpack, so that was a start. But if his books were here, then where the hell was Gabriel?

He checked the stacks next, but nobody was fooling around back there so Lucifer literally had no idea where his brother was or why he'd come to the library if it wasn't to make out with a nerd.

He was passing the bathrooms when he heard a loud crash from inside one of them. Lucifer sniffed the air, rolled his eyes, and then slammed open the bathroom door.

Gabriel let out a yelp at the intrusion, and the other boy with him jumped a mile. Both boys were disheveled, and there was an interesting red mark forming on the other boy's neck. A trash can was over turned, likely the cause of the crash, and Gabriel was quickly attempting to fix his shirt and smooth out his hair to make it less obvious that he'd been in a very heated make out session three seconds ago.

"Car. Now." Lucifer ordered.

"Yeah, okay," Gabriel agreed, him and the other boy running out of the bathroom and heading for their books.

"Who's that?" Sam hissed as they got their stuff together. Gabriel sighed.

"Sam, this is my brother Satan, Satan this is....Sam." Lucifer scanned the boy and raised an eyebrow.

"How old are you?" He demanded.

"Fifteen." Lucifer laughed and grabbed Gabriel by the ear.

"Say goodnight Raquel,"

"Good night Raquel" Gabriel echoed, winking at Sam. "See you in Spanish class, Moosie." Sam's face went redder.

"See you."

"I'll bring some cherry lollipops." Sam was very closely resembling a stop sign at this point.

"Okay."

Lucifer dragged his brother out of the library and into the car, pointedly ignoring the shit eating grin plastered on Gabe's face.

"Fifteen," He repeated.

"So?" Gabriel questioned. "That's only a two year age difference."

"He should still be in middle school, you dweeb."

"Hey, I read at a middle school level." Lucifer rolled his eyes.

"Whatever. Just be careful."

"Strange words coming from Satan."

"And you'll never hear them again, so don't forget it."
