King of Recess
It was recess time.
AKA the time when the small army of elementary school kids was unleashed on an innocent playground and all hell broke loose. And whenever hell broke loose, you could guarantee that Lucifer would be the king of it all.
Michael wasn't quite sure when his brother had been crowned the unofficial King of Recess, especially since, as fourth graders, there was a whole grade full of kids higher ranked than them, but Lucifer had done it anyways.
And being the King came with a lot of perks. The best swing on the set, first in line for the slide, the best square on the four square court...Satan had it all, and he made sure those privileges extended to his siblings.
Michael thought it was a little selfish of them to cut the lines, but Lucifer didn't care. Michael tried to get some of his siblings on his side, but they didn't really care- not even Cassie, who was too happy on the swings to say anything against the arrangement.
Lucifer's throne on the playground was at the top of the jungle gym, where he and Michael sat now, overlooking the insanity of the rest of the blacktop. Everything seemed peaceful. Well, chaotic, but peaceful, until...
Until she walked up.
"Mikey, look!" Lucifer hissed suddenly, nodding towards a fourth grader that was storming up to them. The girl was short for her age, with blonde hair tied in the tightest ponytail they had ever seen, and she did NOT look happy.
"I think we're in trouble," Michael muttered, but Lucifer was staring at the girl with a sort of fascination in his eyes.
"She's kinda pretty," He admitted, and Michael did a double take.
Was he serious?
Did Satan seriously not know about the dangers of strange girls and their cooties?? That was like law number one of being an elementary school boy!
"You're crazy," Michael insisted, climbing down from the jungle gym while Lucifer sat on the top of it.
"HEY!" The girl snapped, crossing her arms and glaring at them. "Which one of you is Lucifer?" Lucifer smiled and raised his hand.
"That's me! What can I do for you?" He asked.
"I've been standing in line for four square since THE SECOND RECESS STARTED, and yet as soon as I got to the FRONT OF THE LINE, some girl cuts me and joins the game, and everyone says it's fine because she's YOUR sister!"
"Yeah, that's Anna. So what?"
"SO WHAT? SO, IT WAS MY TURN AND SHE CUT!"
"True, but I'm the king of recess, so I'm allowed to cut and by extension, so are my siblings."
"But that's not fair!"
"I don't see anyone else having a problem with it."
"That's because everyone else is scared of you!" Lucifer shrugged.
"So what if they are? I like being feared." The girl fumed. "What's your name anyway, sweetheart?"
"My name is Chloe and don't you DARE call me SWEETHEART," She yelled. "Who made YOU king of recess anyway? I bet you're not even a king, you're a dictator!"
"Oooo, fancy word. I don't know why I'm King, I just am. Maybe it's cause I get the spot at the top of the jungle gym. Maybe it's cause everyone else is 'afraid' of me. I don't make the rules, Chloe." He smiled. "I can get you put on the list of people who don't have to wait in line for Four Square if you want though."
"I don't want that, I want you to STOP LETTING PEOPLE CUT! It's not fair to anyone!"
"And if I don't?" Chloe glared at him.
"Then I guess you shouldn't be King anymore."
"And how are you gonna stop me from being king? You're just-" Satan's sentence was cut off as Chloe grabbed a rock from the ground and threw it at him, effectively knocking Lucifer off the top of the jungle gym and sending him tumbling to the dirt. Michael's eyes widened, but Chloe beat him to to Lucifer as she rushed over and grabbed him by the shirt, ready to hit him.
"Say you'll stop letting people cut the lines," She ordered. Lucifer stared at her bewildered and starstruck.
"Okay," He agreed. "I'll stop."
"Good." Chloe released him. "I'm watching you, Lucifer."
"Promise?" He asked. Chloe glared at him again and then walked away, both brothers staring after her.
"Are you okay?" Michael asked. The jungle gym was pretty high up; a fall from it couldn't have been fun.
"I'm fine," Lucifer insisted, smiling faintly as he stared after Chloe. "Better than fine, actually."
"What do you mean?" Lucifer smiled wider.
"I like her."
