The wolves go back to our wolf home while I wait for them to completely go until I let Grammy back out. I don't want to startle them.
"Well, they seem like nice wolves!"
"They are."
After awhile, I decide this is enough of me as a wolf, and we're getting closer to home anyway, so I become my human self.
"Had enough of being a wolf already?"
"Not entirely, we're close."
"Already? That was a fast shortcut."
"Yeah, I know. There's the exit to get out of the woods."
"You first, but what do we say to your mom?"
"I don't know exactly, but do you want to know the entire story? Like, for example, where you were?"
"If you want me to know."
I tell her about the morning that started it all, the destroyed hospital room, dad, and his I got her back.
"Hmm. Nobody actually had to go through all that yet, it's just the doctors and no kidnappers. You really are brave and a good person. You deserve friends."
"Thanks, you really mean it?"
"Of course I do. Shh, let's go inside."
We go in, and I come up with a lie up on the spot on how Grammy got her memory back and was lost looking for something from 2005, nothing about dad, nothing about magic.
"Wow, honey, you found mom! That's so great! We're back as a full family and you don't have to take the bus, either!"
Me and Grammy look at each other, understanding she'll never have to drive me again. I'll walk to school through the woods.
This is a happy day with a good ending. This is the end of the story, too.
When I'm older, I'll write the next note. I'll have a grandchild to give it to. I wonder what power they'll have. I'll prepare them a little mentally. And I'll be ready for the memory loss. Bring it on.
