*Ponyboy's POV* when we walked in the house I put Emily down and we both walked to the couch "again?" Darry asked with a voice like how many times. "Darry the socs want us to meet at the vacant lot tomorrow night all of us vs. Them I guess its like a rumble but its because Dally shot their tires yesterday" I said "fine we better get ready then is it with or without weapons?" Darry asked "we don't know he didn't say no to weapons or even mention weapons so I'm bringing my blade and pony you need yours to Darry explain this to everyone" I said "if there's weapons you two aren't fighting I can't risk y'all getting hurt really bad" Darry said as a parent "ah come on Darry me and pony can be a team against one" Emily said okay but you guys be careful Darry said "we will" I said everyone walked in and Darry told them about it everybody commented on it and their bringing blades and other stuff. "You okay pony?" Emily asked me sitting next to me "yeah" I said, how did she know something was bothering me? I wanna tell her that I don't really wanna fight but you know what I'll do it anyways after dinner I didn't even bother to talk in the living room I just went to my room and shut the door and layer in my bed I left a note on the door saying Emily you can come in whenever you want

I then fell asleep a few minuets after I taped that to the door. Emily went into my room and played down slowly and quietly but I still woke up I just didn't move and kept my eyes close,the next morning everyone was there and was shouting and already ready to fight Dally gave me one of his blades so I wouldn't have to worry about not having anything to fight with I saw Emily on the vouch this time she woke up earlier than me I was surprised cause I always wake and I'm normally the first one up soda was making breakfast in the kitchen he made bacon and eggs and poured 7 glasses of orange juice I took everything and ate it in the living room on the couch and Emily did the same I guess something came over me because now I did want to fight. I was ready like everyone else we all stuck together today and just hung out until it was time we got at the lot 5 minuets early and we were talking about how we were gonna fight them then they showed up and Randy and Bob and their gang came out of the car it was 5 on 7 wasn't really even but that's as close as we could get to even. "Let's do this" Bob said looking at me he must've remembered me from the fountain I glanced at him then looked away "so with or without weapons?" Dally said "I'm feeling lucky so no weapons" Randy said "that's fine we ain't scared of you" Two-Bit said standing in front of Darry just then Darry threw a punch at Randy and that's when it started I grabbed Emily's hand and tried to get her to follow me and I pulled her to the side and she said "what pony I ain't scared" I then picked her up an ran her back to my house and sat her down on my porch and told her everything how I didn't want to fight and I don't know if she understood me."it's okay Ponyboy I understand " Emily said I then sat next to her on the porch and leaned in and we kissed and she turned away after we did "I can't do this" she said "what do you mean?" I asked "pony I told you that I'm not into dating and I like you as a best friend but then I felt bad when you had to admit that night that we weren't dating when you carried me to your house so I went for it I'm sorry I just wanted to make you happy" she said looking at her feet "its okay I understand I'm sorry that I made you feel like you had to date me but I would've still been happy even with us being friends" I said she starts smiling and says "no you wouldn't" I smiled back and gave a little laugh and said "I know" it got quiet "so did we just break up?" She asked kind of nervous to say the word "I guess so" I said taking a deep breath then exhaling then she got up front the porch and gave me a hug and said "Ponyboy Curtis you are my best friend and then walked away"
