The next morning, Jay was peacefully sleeping in his hammock, until he felt someone place his hand on his mouth. He was ready to scream, but looked up and saw Kai with his finger over his lips to tell him to be quiet. He ringed his hand from Jay's mouth and gestured to follow him. The two walked away from the Homestead and started walking towards one of the stone walls

"What happened with them?"Jay asked, pointing at the crossed names

"How I said, there were dark days"Kai said, then took out a knife and gave it to Jay"Now's your turn"Kai said. Jay nod and took the knife, then started carving his name on the wall

At breakfast, Jay looked around the tables. He saw Lloyd sitting with Kai and some other people. He suddenly noticed Nya, with the two runners from yesterday, Cole and Seliel, gesturing to him to join them. He walked to the table with his eggs and sat down

"So, you are the Greenie"the girl, Seliel, said

"Why are everyone calling me a Greenie? What does that even mean?"Jay asked confused

"A glader's word for newbie"Nya explained

"So, how is running around the Maze the whole day?"Jay asked starting a conversation

"Well, pretty good, I guess"Cole explained

"What do you need to be a runner?"Jay asked

"Well, you must to have good memory, to have straight, to an react in some situations and so on"Cole explained"Why do you ask Greenie?"

"What if I want to be a one?"Jay asked

"Jay, I told you yesterday-nobody want's to be a runner"Nya said

"But I do, okay. I am not scared. Just tell me what to do. I want to get out of here as soon as possible"Jay said

"Look. You can't just become a runner. You have to prove you are good at this. For now, you will be trying other jobs"Seliel said

"But I can help you guys! If you just give me the chance"Jay said

"Listen. You can't just become a runner. Got it? I am done with your klunk"Cole said and stand angrily, then walked away

"I will go to get him. We will wait you on the east door"Seliel said and Nya nodded, then Seliel left. Nya sighed

"I am sorry Jay"Nya said and stand from the table, then walked away too

Later that day, Jay was working in the gardens with Lloyd

"...well, have your tried to climb the ivy?"Jay asked

"Tried it. They are not strong enough and what are you gonna do when you climb up there?"Lloyd said, getting annoyed

"Have you tried to go down with the box?"Jay asked

"Yes. It doesn't go down if there is a person inside"Lloyd answered again

"Well, have you tried-"

"We tried it, okay? We tried everything you can think of, twice. Do you think we are dump?"Lloyd said stopping

"No, but there may be something you didn't tried yet"Jay said

"Believe me, we tried everything"Lloyd said and took one basked"Can you go to take some fertilizer?"he said trowing Jay the basked

"Yeah, sure"Jay said and walked away

"Go to take fertilizer Jay"Jay said to himself, while he was walking around the Deadheads, or the graveyard of the Glade

"Sure, can I help you with something else?"he continued"No, just go to take the fertilizer"Jay finished and suddenly, he felt he went too deeper inside the forest. He looked around and saw bones. He didn't knew if they were human's or not, but started getting scared. Suddenly, he heard someone behind him. He turned to see a guy, staring at him in a scary way

"Hey ummm...Turner, right?"Jay asked. The guy was breathing heavily and was still staring at Jay"Hey, are you okay?"Jay asked going closer to him. Suddenly, he felt himself being tackled on the ground. The boy had jumped over him. Jay tried to push him off"What's your problem!?"Jay yelled. Somehow, he freed himself and started running as fast as his legs can hold him, with Turner right on his heels. When Jay saw the Glade in view, he started yelling

"HELP! SOMEBODY HELP ME!". And then he was being tackled on the ground again by Turner. The Gladers heard him and ran to see what's wrong. When Lloyd saw what was happening, took a stick and hit Turner in the head, which freed Jay. He stand up and the others tackled Turner on the ground. He didn't look like human. He had scales over his face and body and his eyes were crazy. Suddenly, they started to soften and he started crying. Kai approached them and saw him

"Remove his shirt"he ordered and the guys did what they were told. Everyone gasped

"He's been bitten"Skylor said

"Please help me"Turner said between sobs. Some guys took him and started dragging him towards the Med Jack hut. Jay was there, frozen. He didn't knew what to do or say

"Are you okay Greenie?"Lloyd asked, appearing next to Jay and starling him

"Yeah, just catch me off guard"Jay said

"Good that. Come, we have to continue"Lloyd said and Jay nodded, then followed him back to the gardens
