Chapter 12- Off to School

Emma woke up in a soft bed that felt very much like her own. Was it all a dream? But when she saw the dull gray ceiling, she realized not.

In a state of panic, she wondered why she was here. Had she failed the test? Was she demoted to a beginner ninja? She shot up and jumped out of bed, only to run into her mom.

“It’s okay sweetie…” she began in a seemingly consoling tone.

            “No!” cried Emma, “I failed?”

Her mom smiled and shook her head. Emma let out a deep breath she didn’t even know she was holding. She passed! She actually passed! But then she realized what this all meant for her. She was going to go through rigorous training and would eventually have to fight that kid, Jake Isop.

Her mom saw her tense up again and put a hand on her shoulder. “Don’t worry,” she reassured, “you can do it. The test shows that you are capable. You’ll be fine.”

Emma nodded, unsure if it was true. Her mom presented her with her schedule, from which she could see that her training began today. She had four short classes and two long ones. Her short classes were Ninja History, battle tactics, and regular Math and English. Her two long classes were physical training and learning about her enemy. Lunch was at noon and was half an hour long. It was a lot to take in, but her she was still in shock that she passed the test.

Her mom also handed her a backpack with all her books, papers, and weapons in it. With difficulty, Emma shouldered the backpack and began walking towards her first period.

As her first period, Ninja History wasn’t too bad of a class. Sure, Emma wasn’t the best at history, but this was ten times more interesting than normal US History or even AP Government, which was what Emma had been taking that year. The teacher was great too, always making jokes and reenacting events in the classroom, and definitely keeping students on their toes about the latest battle. Emma learned that the Warriors dated far back, almost as far as the ninja clan. They formed after many disagreements and civil wars between the old ninjas. Their leader was a boy, who was Emma’s age, and had been training practically since he was born. The Warriors’ main flaw was that they relied heavily on their leader. Without him, they were nothing. This explained why she had to defeat Jake Isop.

Battle tactics was one class that seemed extremely out of place in Emma’s schedule. Learning how to fight just wasn’t something she was used to doing in her everyday life. Nonetheless, Emma was pretty good at it, something that must have come with being a “Ninja Master.”

After a short free period, Emma had Math, which was just a normal class. With all the weirdness in her life, it was nice to have something normal, even if it was solving Algebraic functions.  And after lunch, she had another normal class- English!

But, at lunch, Emma saw herself making friends quicker than she ever had before. These people understood her much better than people at school. She felt a twinge of guilt thinking about Leslie and Alice, but pushed it away. That part of her life was over. This was where she belonged. Within a matter of minutes, Emma found herself surrounded with a small group of friends. There was Liz the funny one, Katie the studious one, Emily the strong one, and Maddy the serious one. Even Nina from before was there and Emma couldn’t help loving her talkative nature. Emma liked every single one of them as they were. Even better, she found out that at least one of them were in each of her classes. Smiling, she scribbled each of their names and corresponding classes on her schedule:

o   Ninja History- 1 hr (9am) w/ Liz

o   Battle tactics- 1 hr (10am) w/ Katie

o   Free period- 30 mins (11am) w/ ALL

o   Math- 30 mins (11:30am) w/ Maddy, Emily, and Nina

o   Lunch- 30 mins (at 12 noon) w/ ALL

o   English- 30 mins (12:30am) w/ Nina

o   Physical training- 2hrs 30 mins (1pm) w/ Emily

o   Free period- 1 hr (3:30pm) w/ ALL

o   Learning about her enemy- 2hr 30 mins (4:30pm) w/ Nina, Katie, and Liz

Finally, after an exhausting Physical Training, which was very similar to her test, Emma flopped down during her free period and pondered over her next class. She was finally going to figure out whom the mysterious Jake Isop was and how she could defeat him.

A/N: The next chapter's one of my favorites... so make sure to stick around! Also, feel free to comment which part of the test you liked best, which friend you like best, and what you think Jake Isop looks like. See y'all later!
