35.

Adrian sat silently on the floor with his back leaning against the wall and stared up sadly at the gloomy sky. He was angry at the moment too. His father had kept such a big secret from him. He let out an exasperation groan as he thought about his father's word.

*FLASHBACK*

"Evelyn is my daughter," Cadet, Adrian's father said wistfully. Adrian looked at him with the most shock expression planted on his face, finding it hard to believe what his father just said.

"Your mother was the one I fell in love with but I was bind to do an arranged marriage before I even know it. When she heard about it, she left without a word. Years later, I met her again on a business trip. Then a year later, we cross path with each other and that's when I saw you for the first time. And right at one glance, I knew that you were my child. When you turned six, Eliza found out about you. We talked about it but things didn't turn well and she asked for a divorce." Cadet explained.

"Adrian, I'm so sorry. I should have told you about my past life but I couldn't have the courage to tell you. You looked very happy when you talk about Evelyn. And I was afraid that if I told you about my past, it will affect both of your relationships." Cadet said feeling guilty. "But I knew this day would come one day but-"

"I don't wanna hear anymore," Adrian said quietly in a sad tone and left the place at once.

*FLASHBACK ENDS*

"Just leave me alone, Mark. I can sense your ungrateful existence all over the place," Adrian deadpanned under his closed eyes.

Mark let out a soft chuckle before pushing himself from the wall and came to view. He let out a sigh upon seeing his best friend and walked towards him.

"How are you feeling?" Mark asked quietly as he sat down next to Adrian. Adrian opened his eyes and let out a sad sigh.

"Honestly, I don't know what to feel at the moment. Should I be happy because Evelyn is my sister now? Or should I be angry at my father for keeping it from me? Or should I be worried about how things are going to be between us from now on? I don't know what to feel and I'm too tired to even feel anything at the moment." Adrian said with a heavy heart filled with mixed emotions.

"I don't know what to say to you either but all I can say is, it was all in the past. Now it all depends on you and Evelyn on how to turn things up." Mark said softly with a warm smile.

"Yeah, you're right. It was all in the past. But Eugenie still hates my father. Now I know why Eugenie doesn't like my father." Adrian pondered sadly.

"Eugenie doesn't like any of our fathers," Mark amused softly to which Adrian let out a light chuckle.

"Evelyn is my half-sister," Adrian said under his sigh, "And I fell in love with her." He added letting out another sigh. "FUCK!" He shouted and cursed out loud. Mark startled violently in his position and looked at him with wide eyes opened. "This is going to be awkward." He shouted under his cry.

"How far did you fantasize about her?" Mark asked and teased under his smirk.

"Fuck off," Adrian deadpanned. Silence fell between them for some seconds before Adrian spoke up again, "I'm a little worried now." He said quietly. Mark turned towards him and gave him a knowing look.

"Don't worry, I'm sure Evelyn will understand it as well," Mark said trying comfort him.

Evelyn stood at the edge of the hill with her hands fisted and jaw clenched tightly and glared up at the sky, trying to hold her tears from falling. She let out soft sniffles as the cold wind blew through her. After some seconds, she couldn't hold her tears and burst out crying.

Nathan silently stood some distance behind her and watched her as she poured out all her emotions over her crying.

Minutes passed, Evelyn felt her stance losing and came to her knee, silently crying. Then she saw two feet under her blurry vision but didn't bother to look up for she knows whose feet were those.

"For how long have you been here, Nathan?" Evelyn asked quietly.

"The whole time," Nathan answered honestly and leaned down. He took out his handkerchief and offered her.

Evelyn looked at the handkerchief for a moment before looking up at him but then she quickly turned her head to her side, embarrassed to face him in this condition.

"Leave me alone, please," She said quietly and sniffled softly. Nathan couldn't help but feel amused at how adorable she was looking right now, with her nose and cheeks painted with bright red.

"I don't want to," Nathan said softly as he reached for her cheeks and gently wiped her tears away. He smiled warmly as the kid version of Evelyn crying flashes through his mind. "Your nose always turn red when you cry," He blurted out absentmindedly before even knowing it. Evelyn frowned slightly and gently swat his hand away from her cheek.

"I'm not in a mood now. Leave me alone before I kill you," Evelyn deadpanned and looked away from him. Nathan let out a sigh before sitting on the floor beside her. Then he gently wrapped his arms around her shoulder and pulled her closer to him. Evelyn looked up at him under her creased and wide eye open.

"I know you are a tough girl but it won't harm to lean on someone sometimes," Nathan said looking down at her and smiled warmly.

Silence fell between them. Evelyn turned soft and stared at him for a moment before painfully looking away from him. "Please, leave me alone," She deadpanned and gently move away from him. The pain of her heartbreak was adding more salt at the moment. She was trying her best not to think about her failed love but with him right beside her, was making her harder to avoid so.

"I said I'm-"

"You're only making it worst," Evelyn interrupted quietly and sniffled, not even glancing at him. Nathan understood the meaning behind her words and stared sadly at her for a moment before slowly withdrawing his hand away from her shoulder. He let out a deep sigh as he folded his legs and rested both his arms over it.

"I'm sorry, I should've known better," Nathan said quietly and gave her a small smile before straightening up from his position and left the place.

Evelyn exhaled deeply as the pain grew wider inside her and her eyes were once again filled with tears.

The next day, Evelyn visited her grandma. She managed to give her a warm smile and hugged her gently.

"I missed you, dear,"

"I missed you too, Nana," Evelyn said and pulled away. She then rested both her hands over her Nana's shoulders and looked straight at her. "Nana, I encountered Dad yesterday," She said under her straining tone.

Eugenie immediately turned sad for her and reached her hands to cup her cheeks. "I was afraid that you would have to see this day," She said quietly and placed Evelyn on a couch and she sat right beside her.

"Mom knew it, hasn't she?" Evelyn asked with a little bit of irritation in her tone. Eugenie couldn't help but nod at her silently. "Does my brother also knows about it?"

"No, they don't,"

"Why did mom-forget it, why would mom ever tell me anything?" Evelyn said bitterly before looking towards her grandma. "You didn't tell me either, Nana?" She said in a disappointed tone with a sad look.

"I'm sorry, dear, but what better would it bring to have let you known about it?" Eugenie said softly. "Instead it will only make your hatred grow more," She continued.

"I never knew the reason behind my parents' divorce but now I know. Dad left us for the other one." Evelyn stated bitterly.

"No, dear. Your dad didn't leave you all. The scandal got out of hand and they ended up divorcing and your mother took custody of all the children." Eugenie explained. "But it was his fault to have caught up with the scandal," she added bitterly and rolled her eyes over. "Nearly ruined the reputation of the family name," she muttered under her breath.

"Dad never came to visit us nor did he call," Evelyn said sadly before letting out a sigh. "But now I don't care, I don't care how he is living with his other family but my hatred for him will never go away,"

Eugenie simply held on her hand and smiles warmly at her, for she knew that time will heal everything and it has already begun to do the process. "How do you find your half brother?" She asked amusedly.

"I'm not in a mood, Nana," Evelyn deadpanned.

"Do you hate Adrian too?" Eugenie asked. Evelyn looked at her for a moment longer as she regarded her words inwardly.

"I can never hate him," Evelyn said quietly. "He is a dear friend to me,"

"And a half brother," Eugenie prompted amusedly to which Evelyn smile slightly.
