DEAN
☆★

Dean Winchester had been sitting at the bar for almost an hour when a few seats down, sat a pretty young brunette.

He heard her ask the bartender for a Blue Moon, and noticed that she could not sit still despite herself. The brunette kept shifting uncomfortably in her seat, and looking over her shoulder at no one in particular. Her long, dark hair fell over her shoulder as she did so, and Dean found himself wondering what it'd feel like to brush it back behind her ear.

Dean lifted the glass of beer to his lips, shifting his gaze forward again. The last thing he wanted was for the girl to feel his stare lingering on for longer than he'd meant for. After all, picking up pretty women at bars was his specialty.

"You alright there?" Dean asked, harmlessly.

The brunette snapped her head in his direction, eyeing him conspicuously. She was barely close enough for Dean to make out the soft brown color of her eyes, but there was something else hidden just beneath the surface and out of reach that Dean could not quite capture.

After a brief moment, however, the girl must've realized just how startled she'd seemed, for her demeanor eventually softened before responding.

"Oh, yeah. I'm still a bit jittery from my swim meet, is all." She explained.

Dean raised his brows. "Oh. So you swim for the college here, then."

The brunette paused, her mouth slightly agape. It was then that the bartender finally came around to bringing the girl her drink, setting it onto a coaster and sliding it towards her with ease. The girl muttered her thanks.

"Yeah, I do." She finally replied, taking a swig of her beer.

Dean nodded.

He found it strange that the girl claimed to have returned from a swim meet despite her hair being completely dry, but he decided not to press the matter further. Instead, he scooted down a few stools and offered his hand.

"I'm Rick, by the way." He smirked.

She slowly accepted his hand, a curious expression evident on her face.

"Elena. Elena, Gilbert."

Dean dropped his hand casually, keeping his gaze on hers. Elena, he thought, sounds familiar.

"Nice to meet you." He said.

Elena parted her lips in a dazzling smile, causing Dean's throat to suddenly grow dry.

"Pleasure's all mine." She purred, flicking her hair off her shoulder.

Dean suddenly seemed to forget his hunter's instincts as her smooth, tan shoulder became visible underneath the cheap lamplight of the bar. He swallowed thickly.

Two more rounds of beer, and a pool game later, Dean had Elena in the back seat of his Chevy Impala, moaning a name that wasn't his.

Dean had just begun to snake his hand up underneath Elena's blouse when she gently pushed away, breaking the kiss.

His lips twisted into a frown, "What's wrong?"

Elena shook her head and placed her thumb in the slight crease between Dean's eyebrows, smoothing the skin. Dean sat back and watched in awe as Elena swung her leg back over to her side, no longer cradling in his lap.

"There. No more frowning." She said.

Dean let out an amused chuckle and sat up against the leather seats of his car, mentally trying to figure out the girl he had managed pick up from the bar. He eyed Elena curiously as she smoothed down her hair in the reflection of the rear view mirror.

He asked her once more.

"What's wrong?"

Elena stoped fiddling with her hair long enough to look over at Dean and flash him an award winning smile.

"I'm sorryRick, but I have to go. It's getting late." She replied.

A wave of disappointment crashed down on Dean harder than he would've ever imagined. He didn't like the idea of Elena leaving so soon, but he would never force a girl to stay regardless.

"Will I ever see you again?" Dean asked.

Elena pursed her lips. "I don't know, it depends. How long do you plan to stay in Mystic Falls?"

A pause. Dean wasn't exactly sure for how much longer he and Sam would be in town for. The supernatural didn't exactly operate exclusively on the weekdays, but rather anytime they pleased. And whatever it was that they had managed to track here, was no exception.

"Not sure." Dean answered truthfully. "A few days maybe? Weeks?"

At this Elena nodded, no longer smiling.

"Then I guess I'll see you when I see you, Rick." She said, leaning in to plant a kiss against his mouth.

Dean pouted as Elena pulled away and watched after her as she climbed out from the confines of his car and into the parking lot. He kept his gaze fixed on Elena until he saw her safely enter her own car and start the engine.

For a while Dean sat sulking in the back seat of his car, weighing whether or not he should look Elena up on the town registry and find her himself. But alas, Dean decided that if fate crossed their paths again, he'd make sure not to waste it.

And with that, Dean hopped back into the drivers seat of his Impala and revved up the engine; unconsciously humming along to the tune of an old rock song all the way back to the motel.
