Five

Date: 12th June, 2017.

We're at #97 in Short Story, cheers!

A few minutes later, the duo reached the lookout point. They walked upto the Hastings Street and stood outside the huge building that towered over them.

Fayth retrieved her phone from her jeans pocket and with a tap of few fingers, called her friend- Sophia. It was two in the morning, but Sophia picked up on the second ring. After about five minutes of talking, Fayth ended the call, saying her goodbye's.

"Now, we wait," Fayth said to Caiden, smiling slightly.

Exactly seven minutes later (Caiden counted), a gorgeous lady came out of the back exit, wearing a white blouse with a pencil skirt. Her blonde hair was tied up in a tight bun and she had high heels stilettos on, with red lipstick. Although the woman– Sophia– was dressed to kill, Caiden didn't spare a single glance at her.

He had eyes for Fayth, and Fayth only.

Fayth snd Sophia shared a warm, tight hug and when they pulled apart, Sophia handed her a pair of keys.

"Don't get caught," Sophia winked and the pair laughed.

They said goodbyes with a promise to catch up soon and Sophia went in the opposite way of where she had come from. Grinning, Fayth unlocked the building and stepped into it, Caiden following shorty after.

"Is this even legal?" Caiden asked, a slight hint of fear in his voice.

Fayth playfully rolled her eyes and laughed.

"You street race. Is that legal? Nope. Live a little, Caid," Fayth said, directing warm smile in his way. Caiden stopped breathing for a moment. His world stopped. The smile took his breath away– literally.

God, that smile would be the death of him.

Snapping out of his daze, Caiden followed Fayth inside the building, which was submerged in complete darkness. He could barely make out her silhouette. They walked towards the elevator and pressed the button. It opened with a ding, and the couple walked in. The doors shut behind then and Fayth leaned on the wall behind her. Caiden mimicked her and they smiled at each other. Soon, the elevator stopped and they stepped out. Fayth switched on one of the lights, just bright enough for them to see each other's face. They walked to where the huge glass windows were, admiring the view.

The sky was pained dark navy blue and the buildings were all lit up by lights. The moon's reflection made the water seem silver and the view was absolutely exquisite.

"S'pretty," Fayth spoke up.

"Absolutely fascinating," Caiden spoke up, not looking at the view, but Fayth.

He couldn't take his eyes off her.

And maybe it's too much, too cliche, but it sure as hell was love at first sight.

It's just that neither of them had realised it.

They stood there for minutes, which felt like hours just when Caiden shifted a little closer to Fayth. He brushed his pinky finger against hers to give her a hint. Fayth immediately caught on. She intertwined their fingers together and they were finally holding hands.

This gesture made Fayth warm all over. Her body felt like as if it was on fire. She discreetly smiled and looked out where the lights twinkled and hopes were born.

"Y'know, I've never had a boyfriend," she spoke up, and blushed madly. It was embarrassing for her to tell him but she felt like he could tell him anything.

"Really? A girl like you has never had a boyfriend?" Caiden asked shocked.

"Mhm," Fayth quietly hummed the blush on her face never going away.

"I just got out of a toxic relationship a few months ago," he confessed, his heart heavy to take the spotlight off Fayth, but doing it anyway because it made her uncomfortable.

"What was it like?" Fayth asked, worried but curious.

"It was terrible," he didn't explain further, and she didn't ask; she knew when to stop.

She knew the curiosity killed the cat and she also knew that he'd tell her one day when he trusted her enough.

Caiden was lost in his thoughts, Fayth's hand in his grounding him to the ground. He knew that his ex-girlfriend was toxic. He knew that she was toxic for him. All they were doing was destroying each other. They were doomed from the start, but they stuck with each other. No matter how bad her sharp words cut him or how hard her manicured nails scratched his cheeks, he stayed. He stayed for her. He was treated like the dirt under her fingernails, but he was so blinded by love that he looked at her like she was out of the fucking universe.

He died everyday just so she could live.

Caiden wouldn't tell Fayth the was physically abused by her ex-girlfriend just yet. He didn't want to seem weak. And the worse of all, he didn't want her pity.

He didn't want the sadness in her eyes, or sympathy on her face. No, that was the last thing he wanted so he just stayed quiet, holding her hand till they heard a noise. A pair of footsteps thumping against the floor.

Fayth's eyes widened and she whispered an urgent 'run'. With their hands still interlocked, they rushed to the elevator and got in, a security guard following close behind, chasing them.

"Who are you? What are you doing here?" The guard asked and luckily before he could enter the lift, the doors shut.

The elevator went down painful slow and all the way Fayth prayed that they wouldn't get caught. This was supposed to be the best night of her night. It couldn't be if they got thrown in a prison cell for breaking and entering. So she just prayed and ran, dragging Caiden with her, not letting go of his hand. Fayth hurriedly left the keys on the reception when they reached the ground floor and without a glance back, they exited the building. They jogged a couple of hundred meters and stopped, letting go of their hands to catch their breath.

"That was awesome!" Caiden exclaimed and Fayth grinned.

"Was it? Or was it fucking awesome?"

"That," Caiden inhaled a deep breath, "was fucking awesome!"

Fayth just smiled because she could make Caiden smile.
