Prologue: Shadows

A certain brunet with gravity-defying hair roamed the halls of his mansion.

It's been roughly a year since the time he traveled to a parallel world.

A world where he wasn't the Decimo of Vongola.

The brunet, Sawada Tsunayoshi, lifted his sunset-orange gaze to the side to stare out of the hall window.

A few birds darted past as he watched the nearby trees rustle when a breeze ran through them.

Tsuna smiled softly.

'It's been a while....since I met Tachibana Takehito-kun....'

The brunet adjusted the orange tie around his neck as he continued to walk down the hall.

The Decimo hummed happily.

There wasn't any paperwork or any volatile Guardians, so that put him in a less stressful moo--

The hall tipped to the side.

Tsuna stumbled and immediately pressed a hand to the wall next to him.

He blinked in idle surprise and placed his free hand to his temple.

'....Again....? I've been having these dizzy attacks quite frequently now....'

Tsuna frowned faintly before straightening his back; he carefully removed his hand from the wall and fiddled with the cuffs of his suit--a nervous habit he picked up.

The brunet swiveled his head around to see if anyone saw....

No one.

Tsuna sighed in slight relief.

'No need to worry anyone over a small thing.....'

The brunet headed towards his bedroom.

"Hayato-kun, Takeshi-kun, Kyoya-kun. I take it that your mission was a success, hm~?"

Tsuna grinned at his Storm, Rain and Cloud with pride evident in his eyes.

A silveret, Gokudera Hayato, had a disgruntled look on his face.

"Tsuna-sama....why did you send me with these two? You very well know that they cause me the most headaches."

Tsuna chuckled.

"Maa, because I know you should spend more time with all of your family members. At least I didn't add Mukuro-kun to your group, or Kyoya-kun would've destroyed a few nearby towns or something equally horrifying."

The said ravenet, Hibari Kyoya, nearly rolled his silver-blue eyes.

Another, spiky-haired ravenet, Yamamoto Takeshi, laughed brightly; his hazel eyes twinkled with mirth.

"Maa, maa. Our mission was accomplished either way--no casualties!"

Tsuna nodded.

"The human traffickers were stopped?"

Takeshi laughed.

"They were nearly beaten to an pulp by Kyoya! He was pretty disgusted with them, so he let demon-self on the loose."

Kyoya narrowed his gaze at the other in warning; the other ravenet, Takeshi, grinned and raised his hands in surrender.

"It's a true story, Kyoya, and you know it."

Kyoya crossed his arms and looked off to the side before quirking his lips up slightly with some amusement.

Tsuna sighed with exasperated amusement as he filed away the trio's report.

"Alright you guys, take the day off. No destroying anything, 'kay?"

Kyoya spoke for the first time in their little report, a small smirk on his lips.

"No promises, Little One."

Tsuna groaned and slammed his face onto his desk.

"Kyoyaaaa! I'm not short, d*** it!"

//(Vongola Gardens)//

"Otouto! EXTREMELY good afternoon to you!"

Tsuna looked up from the bottle of water he was sipping from as he wiped his brow; he smiled fondly as a certain, spiky-haired silveret approached him.

"Onii-san."

The silveret, Sasagawa Ryohei, widened his grin before squatting down next to Tsuna.

"Training to the EXTREME, Otouto?"

Tsuna nodded, rolling his slightly stiff shoulders.

'I'll need to stretch as I cool down...' "Hai. I just finished. And it looks like you went on your jog....?"

Tsuna glanced at Ryohei's clothes: sweatpants and a white tank-top.

Ryohei nodded before ruffling Tsuna's head.

"Well, Otouto, I'll be heading inside for now and take a shower! Mukuro, Chrome and Lambo are EXTREMELY back from their mission too."

Tsuna stood up along with the silveret and nodded his thanks; the brunet dusted any loose grass from his own sweatpants. He dressed in casual clothes to make training easier.

"Thanks, Onii-san. I'll make sure to see the--"

Tsuna stumbled forward; Ryohei caught the other in slight alarm.

"Otouto...!?"

Tsuna blinked his eyes blearily at the black spots that briefly crossed his line of sight; he furrowed his eyebrows, willing the feeling of dizziness from his head.

When the brunet regained his bearings, Tsuna sent a sheepish smile to Ryohei and stood up on his own, rubbing at the back of his neck.

"Haha, whoops! I guess I should really hydrate more."

Ryohei blinked before nodding sharply.

"Of course, Otouto! Without enough water in your body, you could EXTREMELY faint! You need to take care of yourself better."

Tsuna laughed sheepishly again.

"Sorry...."

//(Tsuna's Office)//

"Mukuro-kun....your illusions have terrorized a few civilians...."

Tsuna deadpanned an indigonet, Rokudo Mukuro, that stood in front of him; the taller chuckled.

"Kufufu, and it was quite amusing...."

The Decimo shook his head and sighed deeply.

"Boss...he didn't do anything too mentally scarring...."

Tsuna turned his gaze to a purplenette, Dokuro Chrome, who smiled nervously at the brunet.

"Well, Mukuro-nii actually caused a few people to faint."

Tsuna sweatdropped as he turned his gaze to a ravenet teen, Bovino Lambo.

"Mio dio.....please tell me the police haven't set up wanted posters for him...." (My God.)

Lambo scratched his head and shrugged.

"I don't know. Maybe they did; the police did chase us out of town after all. Also, they thought that we were the ones that stole all the money--we returned it after beating up the bad guys!"

Tsuna quirked a small smile of amusement at Lambo's obvious frustration.

"Maa...I guess you three also deserve a break. Once again, no destroying anything."

"Kufufu~no promises, Tsunayoshi-kun."

"Ugh, why do you and Kyoya always say that to me?"

"Because it's true."

"D*** it."

He smiled as he watched them leave his offic--

Black and orange flames flashed across his eyes.

Slam!

Chrome looked back with concern when she saw Tsuna up from his seat.

The brunet's hands were tense on his desk and his seat was rolled back.

Nothing seemed to be amiss in the room.

"Boss...?"

Tsuna blinked his eyes rapidly before sending a sheepish smile at Chrome.

"Haha, sorry. I thought I saw a spider."

Mukuro also popped his head back into the room.

"Kufufu, afraid of spiders while you're the Vongola Decimo?"

Tsuna rolled his eyes; Mukuro chuckled eerily.

"Shut up, Mukuro-kun...."

~~

"--una. Tsuna. Dame-Tsuna."

Tsuna jumped slightly and lifted his gaze to his--thankfully alive and breathing--tutor.

His tutor, a tall ravenet with curly sideburns, lifted an elegant eyebrow at him.

"You're being dumber than usual, Dame-Tsuna. Is something up?"

Tsuna blinked owlishly for a few seconds before breaking out into a nervous laugh.

"Ahaha....sorry about that. I'm just thinking is all. What were you saying, Reborn?"

The hitman, Reborn, sighed, tugging his fedora over his eyes briefly before tipping it back up to look at Tsuna with narrowed eyes.

"I was talking about a few alliances with other Famiglia, but let's put that aside for now. What's wrong?"

Tsuna laced his fingers and rested his chin on top of them, looking at Reborn with a feigned expression of confusion.

"'Wrong'? Nothing's wrong, Reborn. You're being a worrywart again."

Reborn scoffed.

"As your tutor, it's my job to see if my student isn't 'spacing off'. And your lying still needs some work, Dame-Tsuna."

Tsuna grimaced and unlaced his fingers.

He started to drum the fingers of his right hand on the mahogany desk--another nervous habit.

"I.....I don't know, alright Reborn? Things have gotten a little...strange lately."

Tsuna rubbed his temple with his other hand absently; Reborn studied the gesture sharply.

"Your Hyper Intuition is acting up?"

Tsuna shrugged slightly.

"Maybe. I've been feeling more dizzy than in pain though."

Reborn narrowed his gaze slightly.

"And may I ask when this started to happen?"

Tsuna flinched slightly and laughed nervously, darting his subset-orange eyes to the side.

"........A few months ago."

Bang!

Tsuna ducked his head in time to avoid a bullet.

"What....did I tell you....about taking care of yourself?"

Reborn had his trusty Leon-gun in hand; Tsuna sighed exasperatedly.

"I have been taking care of myself, Reborn! Goodness gracious."

"Then what's all this about stumbling and looking sick?"

Tsuna blinked in idle surprise.

"Who told you that?"

"Your Guardians."

The brunet huffed and muttered to the side.

"They always seem to know..."

Reborn scoffed

"Of course they do. They're your Guardians, Dame-Tsuna. If they didn't know what that something was wrong with their Sky, they wouldn't be your rightful Guardians, and--......oi....are you even listening?"

Reborn frowned when Tsuna's eyes became a bit distant.

"......Tsuna?"

To the said brunet, it sounded like the hitman was talking through a veil of water.

Tsuna saw black at the edge of his vision.

The last thing the brunet saw was the slightly surprised look on Reborn's face.

~~

...

....

Sunset-orange eyes snapped open to darkness.

Tsuna glanced around at the void he was in.

"...Where....?"

Black flames burst to life on the right side of himself.

Tsuna jumped and raised his fists up incase of a fight.

"Tsuna."

The brunet blinked at the voice.

It was....familiar....

The flames died down.

Tsuna widened his eyes with shock.

He was staring.....at himself!?

The other brunet had bandages wrapped over his right eye and mouth. His brown hair was gravity-defying as usual. A black cloak moved slightly in the non-existent wind.

The mirror image of Tsuna lifted a bandaged hand out; he quirked a wry eye-smile at him. An obsidian eye gazed into sunset-orange ones.

"Greetings, Tsuna."

The said brunet blinked in surprise.

"You.....me....?"

The other chuckled.

"Yep...I'm you.....the one you kinda stepped in for for a bit in my world."

Tsuna widened his eyes in realization.

"The...parallel world I visited a year ago?"

The obsidian-eyed brunet nodded.

Tsuna studied...'himself' curiously.

"Isn't that....the Vindice uniform?"

His copy nodded.

"When I came back to my body, Reborn trained me to become the Vindice Boss since Bermuda-san, Jager-san and all of the other Vindice members passed away...."

Tsuna blinked in remembrance.

"Ah.....right."

The brunet looked at his mirror image in confusion.

"But wait, V, why are you here?"

Obsidian-eyed Tsuna inclined his head in confusion.

"'V'?"

Tsuna laughed sheepishly.

"Ah, sorry. I feel that calling you Tsuna too would be a bit confusing. Plus, we can both agree that Tsunayoshi's a mouthful. So I settled with calling you V--or Vindice-Tsuna."

The Vindice Tsuna blinked before chuckling amusedly.

"'V' it is then. But," V put on a grim expression; the bandages on his face hid most of his expression. "I'm not here for fun, Tsuna."

Tsuna tensed at the sudden change of aura.

"....What's wrong?"

V glanced to the side, running a bandaged hand through his hair briefly.

".....Iemitsu."

Tsuna blinked in surprise.

Sure, Iemitsu was an idiot in his own world....but now that he thought about it....he never met Iemitsu in V's world.

"What about him?"

V looked back at Tsuna before reaching for the bandages on his face.

Tsuna watched with bated breath as it was tugged off slightly.

The brunet flinched at the big burn scars on V's face.

V's right eye also has a pale line running from his eyebrow to his chin; the Vindice version of Tsuna was half-blind.

Tsuna swallowed.

".....Sh**.....what happened?"

V tied the bandages back onto his face and sighed deeply.

"Iemitsu is trying to assassinate Tachibana Takehito-san."

Tsuna stiffened in surprise.

"Hito-kun?"

V grimaced underneath his bandage mask.

"He did not approve the fact that Tachibana-kun took the Vongola Decimo title. He wanted me, the son that he never visited, to be the Decimo instead."

The brunet shook his head, causing his cloak to swish around him.

"I flatly refused the title since I was becoming the Boss of Vindice, and Tachibana-kun worked hard for his position. He has Vongola blood too, after all....."

V sighed.

"But everything went to he**. Iemitsu got into a hissy fit. He tried to kill Tachibana-kun. I fought back."

The brunet lifted his bandaged arm for Tsuna to see as he removed the strips of white.

Tsuna saw metal instead of skin under the bandages.

V had a dark look on his face as he gazed back at Tsuna.

"I lost my right arm. And nearly my entire face. Tachibana-kun's safe, but....."

V looked off to the side for the nth time.

Suddenly, cracks appeared in the void around them. V widened his eye with shock.

"Sh**!"

Tsuna darted his gaze around in confusion.

"V!?  What's going o--?"

"I need your help."

V's expression was, in one word, desperate.  Tsuna furrowed his brow with worry.

"My help?  Why?  I thoug--?"

"Please.  I can't tell you right now.  I--!"

The void came crashing down on them.
