12: New Feeling pt1
The morning sun filtered through the curtains, casting a warm, golden glow across the room. The soft chirping of birds outside signaled the start of a new day, but inside Taehyung's apartment, the world was still quiet and peaceful.
Jimin stirred awake, his eyes slowly opening to the unfamiliar sight of Taehyung's living room. He blinked, disoriented for a moment, before the events of the previous night came rushing back to him. His gaze shifted to Taehyung, who was still sprawled out on the couch, sleeping soundly. A small smile tugged at Jimin's lips as he watched his best friend, the usual carefree expression on Taehyung's face, with a small pout on his lips.
Careful not to wake him, Jimin sat up, stretching out the stiffness in his limbs. The scent of freshly brewed coffee wafted from the kitchen, and his stomach growled in response. He glanced around, half-expecting to see Ki-joo or Taeyeon, but the apartment was quiet.
With a soft sigh, Jimin stood up and padded toward the kitchen. He found a pot of coffee on the counter, a small note beside it in Ki-joo's handwriting:
"Made some coffee before I left. Thought you'd need it. Also, I made some hangover soup for Taehyung since I know he doesn't like coffee. - Ki-joo"
Jimin chuckled softly at the note. It was clear Ki-joo knew Taehyung well. He poured himself a cup of coffee and took a grateful sip, then turned his attention to the pot of hangover soup simmering on the stove.
He set the cup down and leaned against the counter, staring out the window at the bustling street below. The city was waking up, people going about their daily routines, unaware of the quiet turmoil that had settled in Jimin's heart.
He wondered how Taeyeon was feeling this morning and if she was still thinking about their conversation. His mind flashed to Taehyung again, still oblivious to the growing feelings Jimin felt for his sister.
Jimin's fingers tightened around the cup, a wave of guilt washing over him once more. But as much as he wanted to push those feelings aside, he knew it was only a matter of time before everything came to light.
The sound of Taehyung stirring on the couch pulled Jimin from his thoughts. He turned, watching as his friend slowly woke up, stretching and rubbing his eyes.
"Good morning," Jimin called out, his voice light and teasing.
Taehyung groaned in response, blinking blearily at Jimin. "Morning... What time is it?"
"9:00. I didn't want to wake you," Jimin said, walking over to the couch.
"Your girlfriend had made hangover soup for you."
"Girlfriend?" Taehyung frowned with a sleepy pout. "Yah, Park Jimin, don't you dare to call her my girlfriend; I would never marry a girl like her?" he yelled lightly as he realized who Jimin was mentioning
"Why? She's so caring that she came and prepared hangover soup for you before even we woke up and left, and also, don't you think...she is pretty," Jimin said.
"You know, Taehyung, she's not just caring. Have you seen her? That shoulder-length bob cut of hers is something else. Her round eyes, sharp nose, and full lips-Honestly, I don't know how you can resist someone who not only takes care of you but also looks like she just stepped out of a fashion magazine."
"You sound like a pervert," Taehyung shot back, rolling his eyes. "Maybe I should be worried about you instead."
Jimin chuckled, shaking his head with a grin. "Hey, I'm just saying. You might want to rethink your stance on her, especially when she's taking care of you like this."
Taehyung made a face, still half-asleep as he reluctantly sat up. "I'm not interested in her like that. Ki-joo's a good friend, sure, but we're like oil and water. We'd probably kill each other if we tried anything more than friendship."
Jimin sat beside him, still smiling as he handed over the bowl of hangover soup. "You say that now, but who knows? Feelings can change, especially when you least expect it."
Taehyung huffed, taking a spoonful of the soup. "If you're trying to set me up, it's not going to work, Jimin."
"Relax, I'm not playing matchmaker," Jimin said, holding up his hands in mock surrender. "I just think it's funny how you two are always bickering. It's like watching a rom-com manhwa."
Taehyung shook his head, but the corners of his mouth quirked up. "Yah, Mr. Manhwa Artist, don't you dare do that."
This scene flows nicely, and the build-up to the reveal is engaging. Here's a refined version with a few adjustments to enhance the pacing and add a bit more suspense:
"Of course I can't, because I'm just the artist... but your sister, she's my writer anyway," Jimin said, then froze, realizing what had just slipped out.
"My writer?" Taehyung raised an eyebrow, his curiosity instantly piqued.
"Yeah, for now... she's the writer I work with," Jimin added quickly, trying to smooth over his slip-up.
Clearing his throat, Jimin shifted gears. "So, uh, do you remember what you did last night?" he asked, wiggling his eyebrows mischievously.
Taehyung squinted, trying to recall. "What did I do?"
Jimin leaned in closer, a smug smile creeping across his face. Without a word, he pulled out his phone, holding it up for Taehyung to see.
Taehyung's eyes followed the screen, his almond-shaped eyes widening in horror as the video began to play.
"YAH!" Taehyung shouted, snatching the phone out of Jimin's hand. The video showed him, in his drunken state, and him waling like a kid and their character play.
Taehyung groaned, burying his face in his hands as he finally managed to pause the video. "I can't believe you recorded that," he muttered, his voice muffled by his hands.
"How could I resist?" Jimin said, leaning back on the couch with a satisfied sigh. "It's not every day I see you acting like a total drunken bear."
Taehyung peeked out from between his fingers, his cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "You better delete that, or I swear-"
"No way! I'll send this to Ki-joo, your girlfriend," Jimin teased, waving the phone just out of Taehyung's reach.
That was the last straw for Taehyung. "Yah!" he yelled, launching himself at Jimin, trying to grab the phone. What started as a playful attempt quickly escalated into a full-on wrestling match, with Taehyung straddling Jimin, desperately reaching for the phone that Jimin held just out of reach.
Jimin, laughing uncontrollably, stretched his arm as far away as possible, keeping the phone just out of Taehyung's grasp. "You'll have to try harder than that, Tae!" he taunted, his laughter filling the room.
As they wrestled on the couch, the sound of a voice from the doorway froze them in place. "I really can't believe you guys are..." Ki-joo's voice trailed off, clearly amused.
Just then, they heard a voice from the doorway. "I really can't believe you guys are..." Ki-joo's voice trailed off, leaving the rest of her sentence unfinished.
Both Jimin and Taehyung froze, their heads whipping around to see Ki-joo standing there, her arms crossed, with a bemused expression. But what really caught their attention was the person standing beside her-Taeyeon, her mouth wide open in shock, her eyes wide as they took in the scene.
"YAH! Why do you always come out of nowhere, huh?" Taehyung growled, glaring at Ki-joo.
Ki-joo rolled her eyes at his outburst. "First, get off that poor creature," she said, nodding toward Jimin, who was still pinned beneath Taehyung.
"He's my best friend! I can do whatever I want. Also, he's human, not an alien like you to call a creature," Taehyung shot back, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
Ki-joo smirked, not missing a beat. "Oh, Taeyeon, did you know your so-called brother cried like a child last night? 'Why are you ignoring me, bwahhh!'" she mimicked, adding exaggerated crying sounds.
"YAH! STOPPP!!!" Taehyung yelled, his face turning bright red as he tried to silence her, but it was too late. Jimin and Ki-joo burst out laughing, and Taeyeon couldn't hold back her giggles as she didn't want to embarrass her brother.
Finally, Taehyung got off Jimin, straightening his shirt with a huff. "Your girlfriend came just in time," Jimin whispered with a smirk, earning himself a glare from Taehyung. It was a glare that was more annoyed than angry-a rare expression from Taehyung, who typically kept his cool, except when it came to Ki-joo. They seemed to have a knack for getting on each other's nerves, yet they'd never leave each other hanging.
"Wanna die?" Taehyung shot back, his voice low and threatening, but the playful glint in his eyes told Jimin he wasn't truly mad.
Jimin just grinned wider. "No, Not today~"
Taehyung rolled his eyes, turning to Ki-joo and Taeyeon. "Anyway, why did you both come here?" he asked, trying to shift the conversation away from the teasing.
Ki-joo gasped dramatically, placing her hands on her chest as if deeply offended. "Taehyung-ah, how can you ask like that?" She exclaimed, her voice dripping with mock hurt. "Here we are, concerned about you, and you greet us like that? Is that any way to treat your caring, loving friend and your beloved sister?"
Taehyung sighed, knowing there was no escaping their teasing today. "Fine, fine. Thanks for checking on us. But seriously, next time, can you knock or something?"
"Knock?" Ki-joo raised an eyebrow, feigning surprise. "Have we become such strangers that knocking is necessary?"
"Oh god, please," Taehyung groaned, cutting her off before she could dive deeper into her dramatic act. "Now stop it."
Taeyeon chuckled, her half-boxy grin making her resemble Taehyung. Jimin watched her, his gaze lingering as their eyes met. This time, Taeyeon didn't look away. There was no trace of nervousness or awkwardness in her expression-just a warm, genuine smile that made Jimin's heart ache.
The moment between them felt like it stretched on forever, a silent exchange that spoke volumes. Jimin's heart raced, his smile widening despite the flutter of uncertainty.
Before Ki-joo could say anything, Taehyung cleared his throat, shifting his gaze from Ki-joo to Taeyeon and pulling Jimin back to the present. "How is Eomma? Is she coming here?" Taehyung asked Taeyeon, his tone shifting to a more serious note.
Taeyeon nodded. "Hm, she said she would come today and then she would go back to Daegu."
"Okay," Taehyung said while Jimin got up and went to Taehyung's bedroom to get ready.
"Did she repeat nagging about your job like she always does?"
Taehyung knew their mother would bring it up, even though Taeyeon was doing well.
Taeyeon avoided his gaze, fiddling with her sleeve. "No, she didn't."
"Really?" Taehyung raised an eyebrow, surprised. "That's unusual. Did she mention anything else?"
Taeyeon's voice took on a whiny tone. "Really, Oppa, it's not like that. She's been focused on other things."
Taehyung was well aware that their mother's constant nagging about Taeyeon's career was a familiar issue. Their parents had always been vocal about their concerns, particularly about Taeyeon's choice of career, despite her success. Taehyung, the protective and supportive older brother, had always defended her, but he felt the pressure of balancing his own commitments with ensuring Taeyeon's well-being.
As a renowned photographer, Taehyung often had to travel for shoots, which made him worry about leaving Taeyeon alone. To ease his concerns, he had arranged for Taeyeon to live in Itaewon, a compromise that allowed them to be close but still have their own spaces. He knew she would have preferred to live on her own, but his insistence on having her live nearby was a way of showing his care.
"Hmm, if you say so," Taehyung replied with a shrug, though a hint of concern still lingered in his eyes. He turned to glance around the room, suddenly noticing Jimin's absence. "Where did he go?" he muttered to himself, scanning the space.
Just then, Jimin reappeared, now dressed and ready to leave. "I'm going to head out now; it's getting late."
Taeyeon looked up at him, her eyes meeting his, while Taehyung frowned. "Already?" Taehyung asked, a note of surprise in his voice.
Jimin nodded, his expression unreadable, but his eyes spoke volumes. They seemed to be trying to convey something he couldn't quite put into words, making Taeyeon's heart skip a beat. She couldn't help but feel drawn to the depth in his gaze, as if he were silently reaching out to her.
"Then can you take Taeyeon with you today because I'll go and pick Eomma up from Taeyeon's apartment?" Taehyung asked, for which Jimin's eyes lit up.
Taeyeon blinked in surprise, caught off guard by the sudden change in plans. "Oppa, I can go on my own."
"No need, Taeyeon-ah," Taehyung interrupted, giving her a reassuring smile. "It's getting late, and I'd feel better if Jimin took you. Plus, you both work together, so it would be easier."
Ki-joo, noticing Taeyeon's hesitation, started to speak up. "But Taehyung, I can-"
"No need," Taehyung cut her off, his tone firm. "You're going to stay here with me."
Jimin coughed playfully, clearly enjoying the moment. Taehyung rolled his eyes, not even bothering to look at Jimin, already knowing he was probably thinking of some teasing remarks.
"I mean, you need to help me clean up this mess since you don't have much of a schedule," Taehyung added, shooting a mock glare at Jimin, who was now grinning widely.
Jimin, pretending to look around nonchalantly, finally turned to Taeyeon. "Come on, let's go," he said, his voice gentle. Taeyeon nodded, still feeling a bit flustered but comforted by Jimin's calm demeanor.
Ki-joo shrugged, raising her hands in mock surrender. "I just hope you don't regret it," she muttered under her breath, loud enough for Jimin to catch but not the Kim siblings.
As Taeyeon got up and bid her goodbyes, Jimin leaned in closer to Ki-joo with a smirk. "Don't worry, I'm not going to eat your friend or anything."
Ki-joo shot him a sharp look. "You better not play with her," she warned, her voice firm as her tone is low as a whisper.
Jimin's smirk softened into a sincere smile. "Play? I would never play with the heart of someone I love." With that, he walked over to Taeyeon, his smile widening, leaving Ki-joo momentarily stunned.
Someone he loves? The words echoed in Ki-joo's mind, making her question everything she had assumed.
Taehyung noticed her dazed expression and asked, "What are you talking about?" His voice startled her out of her thoughts.
"Nothing," Ki-joo replied quickly, shaking her head to clear the confusion.
Taehyung, however, wasn't buying it. "Let me guess; he must have said something like, 'Your boyfriend,' right?" he teased, mimicking Jimin's tone.
Ki-joo couldn't help but laugh. "You must be fed up with his teasing," she said, then added with a playful grin, "But don't worry, Kim. I'd never choose you~" She sang the words teasingly, brushing her finger against the tip of his nose, causing him to close his eyes in frustration, his jaw clenching.
Ha, who even asked her? Taehyung scoffed internally, trying to dismiss the strange flutter in his chest. He couldn't quite understand why his heart was reacting this way, especially not over something as trivial as Ki-joo's teasing.
It was just Ki-joo, after all-his longtime friend, the one who knew him better than most. Yet, the warmth in her playful touch lingered longer than he expected, leaving him both irritated and confused.
Taehyung opened his eyes, giving her a sidelong glance, trying to play it cool. "Yeah, yeah, whatever you say," he muttered, hoping to shake off the unfamiliar feeling. "Let's just clean up this mess before I start regretting asking you here."
Ki-joo grinned, clearly pleased with herself, but there was a flicker of something more in her eyes as she turned away to start tidying up.
