Colby chuckled. "Sorry if I scared off your buddy." He said.

I glanced in the direction Jasper had gone. "He's not really my buddy." I muttered.

Colby shrugged. "If you say so. If I were you I'd stay away from him though. Jasper is... unusual sometimes."

"What do you mean?" I asked, my curiosity getting the better of me.

He gave me a sideways glance. Something in his eyes warned me of the dangers the answer could bring but, I ignored it and when Colby saw this he gave me a slight grin. "Jasper has always been kind of scared to touch girls. He doesn't want to hurt them. As a result his prey is usually only male."

"So?"

"So..." He tried to say it in an artful way but, eventually just gave up. "Jasper is gay."

I frowned. "What does that have to do with me needing to keep a distance?"

"Vampires are territorial. They mark their property and kill those who get too close." He said. "Jasper is quiet and reserved. He doesn't like getting involved with others. By the looks of it however, he was almost excited to get to know you."

Everything clicked into place and I felt a chill go down my spine. "Are you saying he likes me? Like romantically likes me?"

He shrugged. "I'm not saying anything. I just think it's highly possible and I wouldn't be surprised."

Colby's eyes darkened for a moment as he sent me a cold look. "Either way though, Jasper isn't someone you'd want to know."

I felt nervous from his tone of voice and once again glanced towards Jasper's direction. "Why...?"

Colby's warning gaze suddenly disappeared and he smiled. "That's not really my place to say. Jasper's past is kind of dark and private. He doesn't talk about it much."

He slung an arm over my shoulder. "If he thinks you're gonna ask me for help I'd take advantage and forget about him. Of course, if you need any help just ask. I'll give you some tips."

I nodded and watched as he waved and walked away. I felt like I needed to apologize to Jasper for some reason. I hadn't done anything wrong but, despite Colby's warning, I carefully made my way back towards the old building I'd been to with Jasper before.

As I stood outside,I wondered what would happen if I tried to go in. Jasper said they might challenge me for coming on their turf or something.

I steeled my nerve however, and pulled the lever, allowing me access to the building. As I entered eyes turned towards me and I saw mixed emotions. I didn't meet anyone's eyes as I tried to hurry towards the door from before.

Just as I reached out to open it, however, a man stepped in my way. "What business do you have here?" He asked.

I hesitated. "I'm here to speak with someone..."

He didn't look convinced and shot a look to a couple other guys. I swallowed nervously as they surrounded me with glares. "I-I don't want any trouble." I said. They ignored me as they got closer, some's eyes glowing, and some other's baring their fangs.

"Kill him!" Some girls shouted from the side. A few others nodded as they yelled, "Teach him a lesson!"

I shrunk in on myself as they men started swiping claws at me. I gasped, one knicking my arm as I attempted to block. I winced in pain as blood starts to ooze out. "I don't want to fight-"

I was grabbed and my eyes widened as I was thrown across the room, my body slamming into the wall. As I tried to stand, a hand wrapped around my throat, lifting me off the ground. "This is our land." They growled.

I scratched at their hand, gasping for air. "W-wait-...!" I begged. I couldn't breathe, my throat feeling like it was being crushed by a mountain's weight.

Just as I wonder if I was going to die,  a voice rang out about the crowd. "Put him down!"

The hand around my neck loosened and I took all the air I could get while the man was distracted. The voice grew closer and suddenly I was dropped to the ground, someone standing over me. "He's with me." Jasper said.

I looked up at him as he glared at the man. "Jasper-" I started.

He shot me a deadly look and I closed my mouth. When he turned back to the man he held his head high. "Do I need to remind you of the rules we have here?"

The man growled and turned away, motioning to his friends as he walked away. They gave me looks of disapproval before they also left. Jasper didn't even look at me as he said coldly, "Get out before you get killed."

I blinked in surprise and for a second didn't move as he walked back towards the door to the stairs. Then I hurried after him. "Jasper, wait. I want to talk to you."

He ignored me and went up the stairs to his room. As I tried to follow him he slammed the door in my face. I stood in shock before I knocked loudly. "Jasper, please."

I wait a moment and when he didn't open the door I knocked again. After knocking several times with no reply I get annoyed. I knocked one last time, this time not stopping, loudly shouting as I did so. "Jasper!"

Suddenly the door flung open and Jasper glared at me. "What?!"

"I want to talk to you!"

He rolled his eyes and walked away, leaving the door open. I stepped inside and closed the door. "I'm sorry if I made you mad earlier."

"It's fine. I'm too busy to teach you anyways. Just stick with Colby." He muttered, absentmindedly picking up little things and moving them around.

"Why are you so mad?" I asked.

"I'm not."

I scoffed. "Right. You may not know this but, your emotions show without the use of mind reading."

He didn't reply and I frowned. "Is it because you like me?"

He stopped moving. "What-"

"Colby told me you're gay. He said that you were mad because you liked me and he was getting in the way." I said. Jasper didn't respond and I tried again. "Is that it? Well?"

Finally he turned around. "You need to leave." He said, an edge to his tone.

I crossed my arms. "Why?"

"It's dangerous here. It's not-"

I went to protest again and he suddenly grabbed my shoulders, pushing me roughly into the wall. I stared into his narrowed eyes in surprise. Then he clenched his teeth. "I'm warning you... Get out."

Hey everyone! I'm so sorry for not updating for a really long time! Please forgive me! I was really stuck and I wanted to delete this book several times because I couldn't think of anything to do.
