Chapter 5

I sat on my bed, my legs crossed and head in my hand as i had a war with myself. In one way i was curious as to know about my 'ability' but, on the opposite side of the coin i wanted to just say it was all a big joke and go on as normal.

I ran a hand through my hair and sighed. "I really don't know what to do." I said to the stuffed animal bunny i had been given the day i was born. It just stared back at me with it's marble eyes, a slight cock to it's head.

I heard a knock on my door and called out, "It's open!"

Toots poked his head in. "Vlad? Mom wants to know what you want for dinner."

I shrugged. "Anything is fine. I'm not really hungry."

He frowned. "You? Not hungry?"

I shook my head. "I just don't feel like eating."

He gave me one last funny look before shutting the door and i was once again left to my thoughts.

I looked out my window. The sun was setting and i knew i was going to need to make up my mind sooner than later. Sighing for a second time i fell back and frowned at the ceiling.

Suddenly, there was a bang and my mom was standing over me. I sat up quickly. "M-mom?"

She grabbed my head and pressed her hand to my forehead. "Are you sick? Benjamin said you weren't hungry and that you looked pale."

I glared at my brother standing behind my mom. He made a why-are-you-mad-at-me face and i rolled my eyes.

I pushed my mom's hand away. "I'm not sick. I just don't want to eat."

She frowned. "Since when? You have always had the biggest appetite in the family. It's rare that you ever don't want to eat."

I breathed in and tried to smile. "I'm fine mom. I have alot of homework to do and i needed the extra time to work."

"That's funny. I got an email saying that no one was assigning homework because it was a holiday."

Damn the person to create emails from teachers to parents. I bit my tongue and shook my head. "I... have some homework from last week that i never got around doing and i have to have it by next week."

She shook her head with a disapproving look. "Vladimir, you know better than that. You can not skip dinner but, i expected it to be done by tomorrow, do you understand?"

I nodded. "Yes, ma'am."

She smiled. "You may not be the best kid on the block but, you sure have the best manners."

I only smiled, still hoping she would just leave already. "Thanks."

Finally, she turned around and left. Toots stood in my doorway. "You suck at lying."

I glared at him. "And you're a tattle-tale. Why did you have to do that."

"I thought you might be sick." He shut my door and walked over to sit on my bed. "Is there a problem with caring if you're going to die? If so then sorry, I'll let you get worse."

I grunted. "Like i told mom, I'm not sick."

"If you say so. What were you talking about earlier?"

I raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

He shrugged. "You said something about not knowing what to do."

"Nothing." I made it short and threatening.

He narrowed his eyes. "Liar."

"Am not! It really was nothing." I glared at him.

"I've known you long enough to know you only talk to yourself if you are having a problem or are upset about something. So, spill." He crossed his arms.

I giggled. "You look too cute to be intimidating."

He slapped my arm. "I mean it! What is wrong?"

I bit my cheek to stop laughing and looked him in the eyes. "It really is nothing. I can take care of it."

He sighed. "I may be younger than you but, that doesn't mean i can't worry about you. If you want to talk just tell me."

I nodded with another eye roll then he left. I stared at my door for a while until i heard my mom call out that dinner was done. I got up and walked to my door.

I glanced back at my bunny and said, "I'll go after dinner." Then i headed downstairs.

I sat at the table about to gag. My mom had just set out dinner. Steak with a side of mash potato and green beans. She placed my plate in front of me and i leaned back making a face.

She frowned and put her hands on her hips. "Is something wrong?"

I just stared at the food. I slowly shook my head, trying to act normal. She walked away and sat down in her seat. We said grace and everyone started eating, i put a hand to my mouth to keep from puking.

As dinner went on my nausea grew and i finally couldn't stand it. I stood up quickly. "Can i be excused, please?"

Everyone was staring at me. My dad raised an eyebrow. "I suppose. Are you okay?"

I didn't answer him as i bolted for the stairs and to my room. As soon as i was there i ran to the toilet and threw up. When i was done I glared in disgust at the tan contents sitting in the toilet.

There was a light nock on my door. "Vladimir? Are you okay in there?" My mom asked faintly through the door.

I cringed and turned. "Actually, I'm not feeling very well. Can i just go to bed?" I asked.

"Of course, Dear. Get some rest." I heard her walk away and i sighed.

What happened back there?

I put my head in my hands and groaned. This can not be happening. I took a deep breath and stood up, flushed the toilet and brushed my teeth. Then left my room. I went to the top of the stairs and peeked over.

My mom was talking to my dad and Toots was playing with his food. I watched them and frowned sadly. I would much rather be down there than going and meeting a guy i just met. Alone if i might add. Granted, i didn't have to go but, with this last incident i think i needed to.

I crawled back into my room and opened the window. I slipped out and made my way to the library. After that i managed to find my way to the old building that the boy, Jasper, had brought me to.

When i got there i saw he had been true to his word and was waiting by the door. As soon as i walked up he scrunched his nose. "What did you eat?"

"Nothing. Absolutely nothing." I grumbled. "My family had steak though. That might be what you're smelling. It made me throw up."

He stifled a laugh. "Most vampires can't stand the smell of cooked meat. We have extra good noses too so it makes it easy to be sensitive."

I grunted. "Little late with the information."

He looked like he was thinking. "Are you hungry?"

I had to keep myself from drooling. "I haven't exactly eaten anything today."

He grinned. "I guess i can teach you how to hunt before we get started with the test."

I raised an eyebrow. "Hunting what?"

He rolled his eyes. "Humans of course."
