Chapter 10
Jasper's eyes glowed with a dark anger but, I stared into them boldly, my returning gaze never faltering. Then I sighed and pushed past him. "Why are you so determined to drive me away?" I asked as I picked up an empty picture frame from a dresser.
He looked surprised by how unaffected I was by his warning. I looked up at the ceiling and set the frame down again. As I examined the different ornaments hanging down I said, "This place is really amazing. Did you decorate it yourself?"
He hesitated before he walked over slowly, his scent wafting through my senses from his close proximity. He picked up the frame, positioning it back the way it had been before. "Yeah... The ornaments are for concealment and the... frames catch unwanted ghosts."
"So, like magic?" I asked.
He shrugged and walked over to his desk, shifting things around absentmindedly. I watched his slim form move around before I turned away and ran my hand along the dresser's edge thoughtfully. "You seem to have a lot of ghosts..."
His hands stopped moving and he sighed. "When I said it was dangerous I meant it. My life isn't one you should meddle with. I was being selfish before and I apologize. I shouldn't have approached you in the first place."
"Why? What's so bad about being around you?"
He was silent for a moment. "It just is..." Then he turned around. "I won't deny I was attracted towards you but, it was wrong of me to drag you down with me."
I stepped up to him, getting right in front of his face. "I don't feel dragged down."
He seemed almost scared as he stared at me. "This is the last time I'll say it. Please leave..."
"No." I stated in a whisper.
His breathing grew heavier and he tried to back away. However, I was far too gone in my intentions and I just stepped with him until his back hit the desk and he had nowhere to go. He put his hands on my chest and tried to push me away. "This is a bad idea... We need to stop."
I barely heard him as I muttered, "Shut up..." and pulled him towards me by his collar.
As our lips met his resistance ceased and he closed his eyes, his hands dropping to my waist. I felt his body tremble slightly and his fingers gripped my hips tightly.
I wasn't gay. Only this stupid boy. He better thank his lucky stars.

I walked towards home slowly, a hint of a smile on my swollen lips. As my house came into view I hurried inside. I made sure my mom didn't notice me as I slipped upstairs and closed my door.
I grabbed a stuffed animal off my bed and buried my face in it as I fell onto my bed. I rolled over onto my stomach and giggled like a child. Why the hell was I so happy?!
There was a squeak and I looked up to see Toots standing by my door. "Someone looks pretty happy considering they got to skip school and leave the house without mom or dad knowing." He said.
I sat up. "What're you talking about? I didn't sneak out." I lied.
He rolled his eyes and shut my door, walking over to my bed. "It's not like I'd tell mom. But, I do want to know where you went."
I scoffed. "Like I'd tell you!"
"Aw! Come on!" He whined. Then he grinned. "I'll tell mom."
"You wouldn't dare!"
He jumped up and ran for the door. I gasped and chased after him as he ran down the hall and started down the stairs. "Mom!" He called.
I grabbed his arm and pulled him back. "Alright!" I hissed. "Just don't tell mom, okay?"
He snickered at my weakness and we headed back upstairs. As I sat down on my bed he gave me an eager smile. "Well?" He asked.
I tried to find a convincing lie but, before I could he said, "Just admit you met with a girl. What was her name?"
I stared at him. Then I cleared my throat. "Uh... Jennifer." I said. "Her name's Jennifer."
"Where'd you meet her? You know mom will freak if she's some stripper off the streets." He warned.
I glared at him. "No! He- She's really nice and we met at the library." I said confidently.
"Oh, really? So is that the real reason you were so late the other day?" He smirked. "How can you even stand being with a girl?"
"Because I'm a teenager with a sex drive kicking in and you're a little kid who's still afraid of cooties." I shot back.
"Damn right! Cooties are gross." He laughed and I rolled my eyes. "You're lucky I don't tell mom you're cursing." I said.
He shrugged. I sighed. "Are you happy now? You know where I was and you know who I was with. Now, get out of my room." I demanded.
Toots hopped up and tossed a pillow at me. "Mom's gonna want to see that homework."
My eyes widened and I grabbed my backpack. Toots laughed and left my room as I scrambled around to try and look busy as my mother's footsteps echoed in the hallway.
Just as I put my pencil down on paper she opened my door. "Vlad-"
"Hi, mom!" I said spastically. "What's up?"
She looked surprised. "Are you feeling better, Honey?"
I cleared my throat. "Y-yeah. I guess it was just a one day stomach bug." I said. My mom looked sceptical and walked over, puting a hand to my forehead. She frowned. "You're definitely not warm. Just get some sleep tonight, alright?"
I nodded. "Okay."
I watched her leave the room and let out a sigh of relief. That had been a close one. I put my books away and stood up, glancing out my window. The streets were getting dark as the sun set and I could see figures I'd never noticed creeping around corners and down alleys.
I guess I was lucky to have a house in the city instead of a neighborhood. This way it was easy to find places to hunt.
***Flashback***
"Better keep hunting to nighttime so you don't draw unwanted attention to yourself." Jasper said.
I nodded. "Okay. Are you still going to teach me?"
He shrugged. "If that's what you want. I don't do anything during the day so you're welcome to drop by anytime. I'll let the front desk know to not give you any trouble."
"Alright." I waved bye and started towards home.
***Flashback Ends***
I walked over to a mirror on my dresser and stared hard at my reflection. My eyes flashed purple. I frowned. That was weird. They'd never been that color before.
I shrugged it off though and walked back to my bed. I could ask Jasper when I saw him again. As I sat down my phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out and a smile tugged at my lips. I don't know how late I stayed up. 2:00am, 3:00am. It didn't really matter. Not anymore.
